I would suggest Boseiju, Who Shelters All to help your instants and sorceries stick ( I.E. All is Dust).

Also, why would anyone choose to play Prismatic Omen and Mana Cylix over the Signets?Simic Signet and such. They ramp, color fix, and cost a colorless 2 mana. Seems like a good fit to me

I would at least have expected 4x Mental Misstep, seeing how he, on twitter, said it was good, and seeing how many things it can counterspell, on his own deck.

Chapin was referring to Legacy. Misstep is underwhelming in standard. What would you like to counter in Standard or Extended for that matter?

Also, every answer (other than Due Respect) can be answered with Into the Roil. I would be playing at least 3 if not 4 Roils in any deck with this combo between main and board.

I played Splinter Twin + Pestermite for a bit in Extended. The combo is insane. Unfortunately, Fae was big and could easily play control games against you, and on the other side of the spectrum, Lightning Bolt easily disrupted the deck and was played in almost every other deck outside of Fae.

Now that the combo is in Standard, things get easier and... YOUR CREATURE IS A 1/4! The combo is consistent and does no longer die to the largest played Removal Spell in Standard. In other words, the entire meta will have to shift in order to accommodate combo decks.

Sadly, Patrick Chapin posted an article and I was hoping it would remain on the down-low for a while. I'm sure you can still get away with winning your Game Day, or Local FNMs, but I suspect Larger Events will be prepared a little more now.

I do like Patrick's approach with Pyromancer Ascension, but I don't think it's necessary. I believe playing some other type of End Game spells such as Inferno Titan, Koth, Jace TMS, Precursor Golem,...(the list goes on) would be more appropriate. Using Spell Pierce or Dispel seems like a better plan that would lead to more wins.

If you feel like winning your local events, keep everyone on their toes and play this combo, with or without Pyromancer Ascension. Wink

Not many people have noticed the combo that's resilient and fast enough to beat both Valakut, Caw-Blade, and RUG. Smile

Yeah, 6/6 flying trample for 4 isn't good enough. I'd need 10/10 at least, and even then it would just be in the sideboard.

A 6/6 Flying Trample for 4 is fine, only problem is, this guy has a draw back. If your looking to live to late game you are going to have to use your Go for the Throats and Gatekeeper of Malakirs to survive to the late game. Which means when it comes down to removing your own Abyssal Persecutor you will be relying on the top of your deck to get another answer.

There aren't too many more answers for Abyssal Persecutor in mono black.

Also, if your going to be sarcastic, at least back it up with some facts. Otherwise it's not even credible.

Anyone tried Grim Discovery as a 2 of with fetchlands? Seems solid against every deck.

Also if your having troubles with Kuldotha Red, there are three different sideboard options:

Personally, the builds that I was coming up with were more based around the vampire utility creatures. So BSZ was not good. Which leaves Ratchet Bomb and Marsh Casualties, both good against Kuldotha Red and Boros.

Precursor Golem seems insane while Liliana's Spectre seems mediocre. Abyssal Pursecutor does not seem worth it with only 8 ways to kill him, which you will have to use against your opponents creatures in order to survive and then rely on your topdecks to win. Seems bad to me. Smile

All of the evoking elementals are great targets for mimic vat.

Vampire Nighthawk could be taken into consideration.

All of these cards are good without Mimic Vat. Which is a plus.

Stoneforge Mystic with Sword of Body and Mind and Sword of Feast and Famine. You aren't running enough Artifacts to warrant the use of Mox Opal. Also 3 Mox Opal is too many, you'll end up with 2 frequently. Id cut it to 2.

I like the instant speed 2/3rds metal craft.

Bonehoard is also a great target with Stoneforge.

Maxing out on Ornithopter would probably be worth it.

Also, Flayer Husk would be better than Darksteel Axe.

Mulldrifter and Shriekmaw should get some consideration. Crueling either back is pretty devastating.

There should be a minimum of 3 Volcanic Fallouts in a Grixis list if you want to compete with Fae.

Blightning seems too slow. Against a lot of decks, it doesn't accomplish enough to warrant a slot in the main at least. Same with Sedraxis Specter.

well, 4 mana is much easier to play around mana leaks & cryptic commands than 6 mana is. Is that really too hard to figure out?

That's one aspect that anyone can figure out. So I didn't find it necessary to point that out. But thank you, it wasn't hard to figure that out. Finding a legitimate reason to back up your question would be helpful. Getting around mana leak is not when your sacrificing so much more in order to play shape anew.

    For instance:

One of the main reasons mythic is good is because it turns your nonthreating mana dorks into eldrazi beasts. This deck does no such thing nor does it have any use for them outside of ramping.

I've tested Crib Swap and Nameless Inversion. Crib Swap messes with your mana base too much and if you throw in Nameless Inversion you might as well be playing Jund. Lightning Bolt is a fine removal spell and answers most everything we need answered.

I feel really silly for not considering Chameleon Colossus, it's great in the Jund and Faeries matches.

Well the big thing behind nameless inversion is it gets cast through leaf-crowned. Which lightning bolt does not.

From the looks of it, the deck does not seem fast enough to live without some type of removal. You can't just ignore your opponent like elves. So playing a jund mana base to get some removal/value would not be a bad thing. What do you do against a turn 2 fauna shaman? Elvish archdruid? Goblin guide or figure of destiny?

Chameleon Colossus is a house. Its practically an auto win against jund if you can keep them off 5 mana long enough (its hard racing demigods).

I'm just wondering what makes this game plan better than the original mythic plan (Soveriegns = Conscription) other than the element of surprise?

If your having troubles with combo elves, play slow (hold back playing early drops). Once they have 2 lords on the table, slam a Firespout or Slagstorm then you can slowly start taking over the game.

Elves does not have reach so you can let your life total get low and not have to worry. It's what every control player has to keep in mind against them.

Another card to keep in mind is Caldera Hellion.

    *****Edit*****

Did everyone forget the second best treefolk/shaman in your colors? Chameleon Colossus

Not to mention, splashing for Crib Swap or Nameless Inversion.

Warcaller should be a 4-of, always. He's basically a lord if you kick him once, and if you kick him more times, he gets even better. YES, you can pay kicker off of a Cascade.

The reason I don't max out on Warcaller is because the deck doesn't consistently hit more than 4 mana frequently. I wouldn't want to constantly worry aboout hitting a warcaller off cascade or need to wait til 6 mana to cast my bbe profitably. In a lot of matchups, you don't have the luxury of doing so.

I think bbe outweighs warcaller, mainly because your trying to be as aggressive as possible.
