I would also recommend a way to protect your hydra.

Steely Resolve naming hydra is lovely (but you won't be able to equip anything to it later). Asceticism does a similar job at a higher casting cost but gives your guys regeneration and shroud instead of hexproof.

Alpha Authority or Vines of Vastwood are also good. Lightning Greaves will give haste and shroud (woot!)

I also like Fling, because sometimes a 20/20 hydra can be chumped.

Kessig Wolf Run can give a fat hydra trample. Presumably you have gobs of mana anyways right?

Nameless Inversion and Crib Swap are two good "elemental" removal spells that can be tutored for with the Harbinger and recurred with Horde of Notions.

    Fulminator Mage for pesky lands?

You might want Cloudthresher or Tornado Elemental for fliers. I don't really like Rage Nimbus here.

If possible, find another Horde and Animar. Animar is sick with evoke creatures.

I feel that Reveillark should be at least 2, even three-of, especially when running a full playset of Mullies and Harbingers.

One thing I like in my elemental deck is a couple of Blink effects - saves my guy and gets an extra use out of the come into play ability. It would also ensure you don't "lose" your elemental after using Soulstoke or Evoke.

  • posted a message on Gorgon control deck for multiplayer
I made a three colour gorgon control deck (because of that commander gorgon, Damia) - U/G/B

There is a fair amount of ramp because of the casting cost of the star creatures. So I have Sakura Tribe Elder and Farseek.

Ravnica has a few spells with gorgon art that fits the theme. Like the one that brings cards back from the graveyard (Treasure?) or a couple of X kill spells (ramp helps there too).

Blue nets a few controlling elements and I especially like Plaxmanta for a surprise shroud.

I made my deck before the Theros gorgons came out, so I was a bit light on gorgons. So my deck has a deathtouch sub theme. A lot of gorgons have deathtouch, so I included Thornbite Staff, to make a pseudo machine gun. Unfortunately, there are no gorgon shamans, but you can include Vampire Nighthawk. Smile

  • posted a message on Death by Dragons
My mono-red dragon deck has the following to help me get out early:

Quicksilver Amulet - pop out big dragons cheaper and at instant speed.

Urza's Incubator - makes all dragons cheaper!

Taurean Mauler is technically a dragon and a nasty one at that, especially when combined with Crucible of Fire.

A dragon themed burn spell might be Banefire.

Not a dragon, but helps with land drops.... Pilgrim's Eye, and if playing with a whack of mountains, why not Valakut?

Thanks those are good suggestions. Jade Mage fits a low-drop need I have and the buy-back spells are good ideas.

Anything for land? Shame the Innistrad U/G land gives things.... flash, which is redundant in this deck (there is a whole cycle of utility lands...). Is there a way to search for lands that have non-mana effects on the search site?

  • posted a message on Mana sink for Prophet of Kuphrix
So I have a deck built around this card, Prophet of Kuphrix on the works, but I find I really want some mana sinks for those rare times that my card drawing flashy creatures don't draw into anything.

    Has to be U/G.

Ideally I'd love some repeatable bounce so I can recast my card drawing guys and/or bounce other things for defense. However, any useful mana sink would be appreciated.

Also, any good lands that would be good if they untap each turn? I just have some storage lands (i.e. Calciform Pools) at present.

If you go the Isocron route, I would make as many of the instants 1 or 2 cc as possible. Replace the counterspells with Counterspell or Negate. Look into white removal such as Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile.

Split cards are amusing. For example, If you stick on Far/Away you can cast Away since you imprinted the Far half. If you want to be silly (and your play group allows it), this is hilarious: Who/What/When/Where/Why

Since you have Cloudshift (or Momentary Blink?), you might look at choosing between that or Kira - Kira would affect your own spells too. Do you want to prevent anyone from targeting your stuff or do you want to abuse creatures that have an ability when they enter play? (if the latter, check out Momentary Blink decks for some ideas for creatures that work well with blink effects).

Lastly, I would look at some beaters. Right now you just have the Aetherling. If more are too expensive, you can look at cards like: Sphinx of Jwar Isle is bigger than the law mage, but has an ability that might be useful (law mage would only be really silly if you could put on auras or equipment to make it bigger). Or look at some of the angels.

May I suggest that instead of one-shot spells like Seething Song, you use land ramp? Cultivate or Search for Tomorrow (suspend) or Farhaven Elf or Sakura Tribe Elder can put land into play (and the latter two can be used as blockers or to add to the Xenagos count). If someone deals with a Seething Songed' dragon, you may be stuck mana-wise for casting another, but if you have that land in play, you will be able to cast the next dragon more easily.

Depends if you want speed or resiliency.

In my dragon decks, I either like lots of land ramp to help me get them out sooner, or Quicksilver Amulet.

  • posted a message on Mono-Red Dragon Stompy - should I play it?
I have a mono-red dragon deck but it is not overpowered... I'd never run blood moon though - I like decks that win through interaction, not locking people out of the game.

To help with the curve, I run Taurean Mauler, Dragon Egg, and Pilgrim's Eye (ok, the last is not a dragon but it fetches up needed land!). Burn spells are used more for defense until I can start dropping dragons.

Also to help is Urza's Incubator and Quicksilver Amulet. Hoarding Dragon helps fetch up these if they haven't shown up by turn 5.

    Blinky - W/U
My nasty blinky deck becomes even nastier with Leyline of Anticipation dropped before the game begins. Every creature in this deck has a strong CIP ability, and I have plenty of counterspells and Draining Whelks to back it up. Sunblast Angel on the field + Momentary Blink = I'll kill all your guys if you swing at me.... Or hell, I'll just flash in an angel when you least expect it.

    Elementals - WUBRG
Five colour toolbox elementals, fetched up via Flamekin Harbinger. Anima, Horde of Notions and Maelstrom Wanderers are the most feared cards, but almost any creature in this deck can carry the day.

Day of the Dragons - W/U/G
Built around the enchantment of the same name, this deck pops out as many cheap CIP/Leaves play creatures as possible (BOP, Wall of Roots, Wall of Omens, Nevermaker, Sage Owl, Farhaven Elf, Mulldrifter, etc, etc, etc) and then drops the enchantment. If my dragon army gets killed, I drop an Acidic slime to break the enchantment and get a pile of cards and effects. Momentary Blink is added to the deck to make it nastier.

New deck! Release the Hounds! - B/R
Built around Cerberus, the Hell Hound, this deck is focused on the underworld and to abuse his third ability. Hound of Griselbrand and the other doublestriking cerberus from the Theros block work well with Bonesplitter and Loxodon Warhammer. Tymaret the Mad King is difficult to keep down. Life's Finale wipes the board as needed. Erebos draws me cards and can join in on the fray if I drop a few black cards. The deck also removes opponents' graveyards (Bojuka Bog, Rakdos Carnariums to bounce back said bogs and Rakdos Charm for instant speed removal), ensuring that if Cerberus is killed, only I benefit Smile

Wall of Roots + Flooded Grove gives you surprise mana. Its easy for people to look over, see 2 untapped green mana and a Grove and cast something big. You then add a counter onto roots, use grove to make it double blue and flash in Mystic Snake. Smile

Wall of roots also gives you pseudo ramp and a blocker in the early game.

  • posted a message on Putting enchant/auras from hand into play
So are there any cards that can cheat in auras and enchantments cheaply like there are for creatures and equipment?

I can only find Bruna, but would like something that could work for non-auras. Trying to find a way to make bestow creatures work more cheaply.

  • posted a message on Myths that inspired Theros cards
Chained to the Rocks is more likely to refer to Prometheus, who was chained to a mountaintop in punishment for giving fire to Man. Every day an eagle would come to eat his innards, and every day, being immortal, he would regenerate. Andromeda was chained to an island, so I think it refers to the the Prometheus legend.

Curse of the Swine likely refers to Circe, who had an island. On his journey, Oddyseus and his crew stopped there where they were greated with a great feast (Oddyseus and a few men stayed behind to watch the ships). However, they acted like, well, pigs, so Circe transformed them. Oddyseus was later able to trick her into transforming them back.
