It's no Craterhoof Behemoth, but is an interesting alternative. I don't think a deck needs two Craterhoofs. That being said, Craterhoof is getting very expensive and if this is cheaper than it I can see this becoming pretty common.

You're not breaching any rules, don't worry.

Your deck seems more aligned with Feverous' style of Prossh, which is fine, but I don't really run that style, and that makes me a little bit of a worse judge on it.

I'll be honest here, and it may be obvious with how this primer hasn't been updated in a while (I'm surprised it's still labeled as such to be honest) but I've grown to the same conclusion as you. It's a bit stale. I still have the deck, and I still love it, but it is a tough deck to take in new directions without massive overhauls. This is a problem with all EDH decks, but we are really down to just waiting to see if new cards come out with each set. A few have, and the previous poster listed a few good choice. I really think Cryptolith Rite has a good slot in the deck. You can also try adding Second Harvest

I think your list is pretty solid, and would only make changes based on what you have to deal with in your meta. Though I would take out Primal Growth for Wood Elves. I really think Primal Growth is a terrible card. The only other choices I would make would be changes I assume you can't do for budget reasons, like Crux of Fate for Damnation. Maybe Toxic Deluge is cheap enough now to include? That card is amazing.

Natural Order is always great, and is great at getting some nice green mega creatures like Avenger of Zendikar, and Craterhoof Behemoth. Needing to sacrifice a green creature makes it a little awkward in a 3 color deck, but it's playable in a creature heavy deck (which mine is not really, I need Prossh to produce tokens)

Earthcraft is good too, but I cut it in favor of some more removal, and combo pieces/tutors.

I don't see any good reason not to run either if you have them laying around and can make room.

Mazirek has been a sweet addition! There are synergies with numerous cards in the deck. My fav is Hangarback and Prossh.

    Yes,it could certainly be.

I actually just built a Mazirek deck instead of putting my only copy in Prossh, but I need to look into adding it as well.

Expect a set review for the commander set in the coming days. I've been super busy lately.

I don't know if you want to include this anywhere or if it was mentioned anywhere in these 14 pages, but tainted strike is a really nasty trick with Prossh

Yeah, it's a nasty trick, but I have some problems with it. First, it's kinda mean, but that's really not a good reason. I'd think about putting in my deck, but with just a few creatures it only get used on Prossh. Usually, I never win with Prossh attacking though, I use him to combo out, or get enough creatures to win with a Craterhoof Behemoth, so Tainted Strike doesn't work there either. For that reason I just cast it aside in favor of cards that function a little better with the deck.

With more fatties in the deck though, and if you win with Prossh attacking a lot, then it can be a good addition. Just be prepared for your friends hating you. Wink

It needs a minor update, but overall, my deck and its core components remain unchanged even years later.

Yah, some fantastic uncommons this set, which is nice to not have to spend an arm and a leg to upgrade.

BUTTT, then you have $8 lands to buy as well.....oh well. Shrugs

It's not bad. Land abilities can cost a lot, and since it does come into play untapped, that doesn't make it horrible. I didn't include it on my list for BFZ because at 3 colors, we can't afford colorless land slots. Making 3 dudes is attractive though. If you feel your mana base is working fine, then I say throw it in and see how it goes. Though, most of the time when I'm making creatures, they need to be made for as close to free as possible, and 6 mana makes that hard. Still, not bad to have around as a "just in case" lever to pull if you have tons of mana and no creatures.

hmmm...well, Phyrexian Arena does cost 3 compared to smothering abomination's 4. It also is guaranteed to work, whereas Smothering Abomination may not always have a creature to sacrifice (except himself)....but you can get a lot more cards, much more quickly off him.

I'd say they compliment each other more than replace one, but I think it's an okay switch.

I've never really like Phyrexian Arena anyway, it's always been a little slow and clunky.

Yep, overlooked it, I knew I was forgetting something. I blame my predisposition toward hating ally's.

Anyway, added to the very playable category.

Not strictly better than Blood Artist, but certainly better in some ways. It shouldn't matter much, if you're comboing with a Blood Artist in play they die either way. lol But the fact it hits everyone means chaining with prossh is easier to bring a kill to the whole table, so I'd replace it if I didn't want the effect twice in my deck.

    Battle of Zendikar Set Review

Like usual, the cards are broken down into "maybe playable", "playable", and "very playable". This set disappointed me overall, but we did get some goodies out of it! Soooooo, let's begin.

    Maybe playable

Altar's Reap - We have creatures to sacrifice, though Skullclamp is just better in every way, not every card can be Skullclamp, so if you're on a budget I can see this card being worth a slot until you find a better source of card advantage.

Bone Splinters - Same as above, this card is interesting because we have lots of little creatures running around, so an interesting budget option, or if you NEED a one mana removal spell.

Dutiful Return - As a sorcery at 3B this card is pretty....meh...but the effect is still nice, so it may be worth a look if you run a lot of creatures.

Painful Truths - Read the Bones is better most of the time, but this isn't the worst source of card advantage around, so it may be worth a look if you feel your Prossh deck needs a little more card draw in it.

Vampiric Rites - I almost didn't put this card on the list at all. The effect, however, is too good to just overlook. I hate that it costs mana, and in a deck as tuned as most Prossh decks, paying that 1B to sacrifice a creature can be rough. Still, it's a sac outlet, and does provide some card advantage as well. Overall, not a bad card.

Outnumber - Very conditional card, but conditions we can work with. Cheap removal is always good, and this card can take out a huge creature in our deck with minimal effort, so worth a look for sure.

From Beyond - This is worse than Awakening Zone, as that extra mana in the cost is a HUGE cost in Prossh. As someone who is likely to cut Awakening Zone from my deck, I see little reason to consider a more expensive version. Sure, you get 1/1's out of it, but in Prossh, the difference is extremely negligible.

Unnatural Aggression - As an instant, this removal doesn't seem to bad if you run lots of big creatures, or if Prossh is big himself. Still, probably not good enough in the end, but I like the card.

Aligned Hedron Network - The effect isn't bad, and shouldn't effect a Prossh deck like mine at all. Still, I feel the effect isn't awesome enough, as it doesn't hit enough creatures to be super relevant, to really warrant an inclusion unless you have a slot or two for removal. It's a unique effect, so I definitely wouldn't fault you for slotting it in.

Scour from Existence - It costs 7....and in Jund colors our removal is just too good to seriously consider this unless you really want to exile something.

Blighted Woodland - This is no Krosan Verge, but it's still a pretty nice effect. If you don't mind losing a colored land slot for this card, I'd consider running it. For myself, I'm going to pass becuase my deck's ability to produce colored mana is very important, and tuned, and I can't think of a card I would cut for this effect. If only it WAS like Krosan Verge, and said something like, "Search your library for a Forest or Mountain card and put it onto the battlefield tapped." THEN we'd be talking. (Also, if it didn't cost 4 mana to activate....((Krosan Verge is a good card, okay!)))

Mortuary Mire - Also, not a bad little utilty land, I don't like it because I hate lands that enter the battlefield tapped in my deck, but not a bad late game effect. You will get VERY angry when this is in your opening hand, and that's a big reason I wouldn't run a card like this, but if you don't care, and have a land slot, then go for it. I'd consider it 1/2 a spell, and 1/2 a land, as this is a VERY BAD Swamp in the early game, but a great spell in the late game.

    Playable

Ob Nixilis Reignited - At 5 mana, this card is iffy, so it stays in the playable slot. I, personally, will not be using Ob Nixilis in my deck, but his +1 is very attractive, as well as his -3. Since, he's got two attractive abilities I have to say that makes it worth a serious consideration. Still, planeswalkers aren't the best in EDH, and while we should have plenty of blockers, it's still not hard to take out a pesky planeswalker that destroys creatures, and draws cards. Overall, I think I'd seriously consider him at 4 mana, or if his -3 was a little more expansive, or said "exile", after all there is an exile theme in this set. Extremely playable in other black decks, but I don't consider Prossh a black deck, and we have better sources of card advantage. Solid card though.

Smothering Abomination - My big issue with this card is its lack of built in sac outlet. Yes, that would likely be too good. Still, couple this with a sac outlet, (I don't know...like Prossh), and suddenly you get a hell of a draw engine. I'd put this in very playable, except it's a creature and costs 4 mana in black. You'll notice, I hate paying double black in Prossh. I'm still going to try this puppy out though, as I feel it'll do amazing things in the right situation. Oh, did I mention it's a 4/3 flyer?

Red is terrible in this set....

Beastcaller Savant - I hate the art....but the card isn't horrible. I'm not running it due to a lack of creatures in my control-oriented Prossh deck, but if you run lots of creatures this isn't bad mana acceleration because it has haste. I'd put it in my maybe playable, but I realize there are other Prossh decks out there, with different styles, so if you're one of those, then this card could be a very worthy inclusion in your deck.

Greenwarden of Murasa - Double Eternal Witness!? SIGN ME UP.....but we can't abuse him very easily, or at least I can't in my Prossh deck. Also, the scaling doesn't really work...6 mana is not twice as much as 3 mana in MTG. Six mana means that it eats an entire turn to cast, six mana means you usually have to wait a little longer to cast it, and six mana means it better do something amazing when it enters the battlefield. It does do something good when it enters the battlefield, but it's not amazing. So, it stays away from the very playable category, but retains a respectable playable rating.

Blighted Fen - Oh boy, a good coloress land with an activated ability...that is amazing! Diabolic Edict is a fantastic card, and Blighted Fen does the same thing, ON A LAND....still it costs 5 mana, but it's a good utility land to just have laying around, and since it doesn't enter the battlefield tapped I don't hate playing it on turn 1 or 2. I love me an edict effect against decks that pile stuff on to their commander, or who enjoy tossing a good single threat at you. This card will save your ass.

    Very playable

Zulaport Cutthroat - Right up there with Blood Artist, which is also a very playable card in Prossh. I'd probably run the Cuttthroat over the artist in Prossh, since we can not only combo with Prossh (which effectively makes both cards equal) but we can also chain prossh to be cast a few times, that means we can kill a lot creatures in one turn, maybe not 100 creatures, but maybe 20-30 creatures, which makes the Cutthroats ability to hit multiple players at once a lot more attractive. If you can run both, go for it, if you can run one, I'd run the Cutthroat. Excellent card!

Catacomb Sifter - I play Reaper of the Wilds for the Scry effect, and now I don't. This card is cheaper for the same effect, AND IT COMES WITH A BODY. A 2/3 ain't half bad either, plus the body can be used for mana!! This is so much better than Reaper, and I will happily slot this in. The effect is good, because you can combo off, and dig dig dig for a kill card, or in resonse to a board wipe, you can scry for 6, 7, 8, 9 times...meaning you can dig a bit for another potent threat. I'm glad to cut the mana curve of my deck down a bit by including this card, plus its got the awesome new border for Devoid. Overall, very happy to see this card. Now, we must answer the question as to why it has 6 arms instead of the usual 4?

Auto-Include - This category doesn't come up often, but it does this set. You WILL play these cards, becuase your deck will be worse without them....drummmmm rollllll.....(you should already know what these will be, but suspense is fun....)

Cinder Glade, and Smoldering Marsh - Yep, put them in now, they'll make your mana a lot better. These are probably the best lands to come out in a while, so get your playsets while you can (I mean, you got a year or two, but still you should have owned these cards yesterday...)

Anyway, there you have it! An okay set overall, but I'm happy to see a lot of interesting cards in the uncommon/common slots, now if only we could fix the rares in the set. Of course, I may have overlooked something, so let me know if I did.

Bah, don't listen to them! Just build a fun Bant deck, she's a great general, just by what she does.

I mean, there's a 90% chance it'll be a ETB, or stax deck, but you can try to do something else.

I run in her in a Bant combo-control (ETB) deck, lots of fun, and I only cast her to protect myself from being hit by a big problem creature.

    Quote from "Planeswalker420" »
And remember folks, people thought that Zendikar was weak and underpowered just like they do for this set. If you want an excellent point of comparison, let's take the 3 walkers from the original Zendikar (Chandra Ablaze, Sorin Markhov, and Nissa Revane) and put them alongside the three new ones.

Now that is a drastic increase in power level.

You hit the nail on the head. Zendikar, the set, blew monkey chunks. There are so many bad cards in that set. Once you take out the fetchlands there are only a few cards worth anyone's interest.

Zendikar was awesome because it really knocked the flavor out of the park, it had awesome fetchlands, and Landfall was a sweet mechanic. Then Worldwake came out and introduced some really powerful cards, but only a few. That kinda just locked Zendikar in as a really powerful, and awesome block that became highly desired because of the fetchlands. Then Rise came out and really hit that flavor level again, had some awesome mythics, and had one of the best limited formats. Zendikar was carried by the second two sets and fetchlands.

This set has a slightly better powerlevel, but man is it boring so far. The area's they are taking the set don't seem very inspired, or treading on new territory outside of fancy-smancy card frames. The cards seem over balanced, and skewed to being a little weaker than they should be. So, I think it's just going to be another decent set, that just continues with what works instead of branching into new area's. It's lacking fetchlands, awesome mythics, and the flavor is just kinda there, it's not bad, but it's not new or revolutionary. Result is just a meh reaction, but the set will still sell because Standard works, and the game is growing.

It's still early though, so all of that could change, but I have been very disappointed in BFZ so far, so only time will tell if that changes, hopefully it does.

I've never been happy with Endrek Sahr....however Ogre Battledriver is decent in a more token focused build. If you play the battledriver follow it up with Prossh, or a few token generators and suddenly it's a decent threat. Or you can use it to speed up some tap abilities. I actually think he's better in a non Food Chain deck, because he's win more in that situation. Your deck needs to be able to use battledriver, so I think your changes are certainly justified though, after all its your deck.

And I think that's a good reason to add in a Woodland Bellower.

Hey, this looks like a really fun deck. Smile

Here's what I would do. I'd use Prossh as an engine, get him nice and plump, and then kill, kill, kill.

Sigil of Valor would be a nice addition to the deck I think. I suggest using Prossh to get lots of tokens and using them to get big threats. Then swing for a huge amount later in the game. I think this allows you to not change a lot, or spend a lot of money to improve the deck.

First, I would bring down the curve a little bit, by taking out some of the big fatties, that don't offer a ton to the deck. Bane of Progress, Blightsteel Colossus, and Kagemaro, First to Suffer (unless you're good at keeping cards in your hand.) Replace these with cheapo dudes that get mana, Wood Elves, Ondu Giant, Sakura-Tribe Elder, or Farhaven Elf

I'd take out a planeswalker or two, whatever you wish, except Xenagos, he's too good. From here I'd take out a few weaker cards, I'll leave this up to you, and add some nice sac-outlets that also serve as a good engine starter. Culling Dais, Goblin Bombardment, Viscera Seer, Ashnod's Altar, etc,... Cards like that, I'm sure I'm missing something good. From here, it's simply just playing Prossh, to use to get card advantage by sacrificing your Kobolds. Use this to fuel out your big bomby threats, then boom, kill.

Thanks for dropping by, and have fun. Smile
