Just might have been Ethan and Ari not thinking to match pretense and writing separately.
Welp, it really just is an oversight then, probably. Wizards doesn't seem like a company to do that kind of obscure hint-dropping, and they're never going to return to Lorwyn anyway.
Still, even just as a headcanon I like the idea of Maralen morphing back into Oona in restored Lorwyn. Ultimate power always corrupts, stuff like that. Maybe she would be able to restrain herself for a while, but over hundreds of years, it wouldn't be hard to believe that "her nature" would start to seep in slowly again. idk, I'd really like having Oona as a minor, planebound villain that still has the ability to somewhat influence multiverse events through dream magic.
Yeah, don't read anything into the varying tenses here. I can barely get my tenses to agree from sentence to sentence in the same paragraph. Getting my tenses to agree with Ari's is well beyond my capabilities!
Kelly Digges and I need questions from the audience for [REDACTED]! Please ask your burning questions about Dominarian history and about Dominarian geography! If you need to provide a little context for your question, feel free to do so.
I'll calm down after a beer later when I'm not thinking about Magic anymore.
For me, though, when magic is already sitting in a very expensive state in Standard, with the two best PW's being over $35 (Gideon) and $60 Jace (which is down a lot!) per card, the other PWs that are affordable being really 2 or 3 tiers worse, a bunch of rares in this set that just make you feel bad for not being able to afford the couple hundred dollars entry fee just seems like a crass move. Way to make us poors feel even worse for liking your game.
Magic has always had the top tier rare cards that cost lots and lots of money. I've been around long enough that I remember standing in line to buy my first booster of antiquities and actually seeing a non-sleeved Beta version of a Black Lotus. But, I've always been able to stay competitive to varying degrees. Increasingly, though, it just feels like Magic is really creating a giant, gapping chasm between those that are "All-in" and those that are just in. They are making the handful of Mythics game-breakingly good for the pros and whales and then filling up boosters with trash rares for guys like me.
This is now even worse, with this sort of cycle. Now, a guy like me pulls this rare and all we have is a Divination that makes us feel bad for not having bought $400 worth of Jaces.
WotC doesn't owe me anything; I get that. They are feeding their big, big customers which fork over vastly more money for product that a 1000 guys like me would per set. I'm just stuck wondering where i fit into this game much any more. And it makes me grumpy because I do love the game. And like the crush you had on the pretty girl in middle school, it just feels bad when you realize that love is completely one way and they don't even care if you exist.
I'll look into the situation with the voting software when I get into work tomorrow. It certainly looks (from my home computer here) like the vote got messed up. If, as it appears, the votes weren't recorded properly, I'll ask Trick if we can schedule a re-vote.
So, between Triumph of the Hordes, Overrun, and the new Biomass Mutation, do you think that a Time Warp-less Edric is viable? I always get embarrassed when I take extra turns in Commander. I'm willing to leave in Notorious Throng, since it's so thematically-appropriate, but I'd kinda like to cut Time Warp, Temporal Manipulation, and Walk the Aeons. What do you think; do I stand a chance?
Oh man, the other day I was playing this deck and I had six permanents on the table by the end of turn one. I proceded to destroy the table by just hitting all of my Time Walks; never did find Beastmaster's Ascension. I was so embarassed. Pretty sure that was the last time I can show my face at WotC with this deck. Oh well. I'll save it for gunslinging.
Sorry guys, I thought they were going to credit you directly, but there must be some policy involved that I wasn't aware of. Had I known, I would have had them post my own version of the deck instead of Donald's.
Anyway, thanks for sharing this; it's a blast to play!
There I go again trolling and getting out-trolled in return.
You're not supposed to admit it! Pffft! Amateur.
Forgive me please. It's a natural tendency of mine. I honestly don't do it on purpose.
If it's any consolation, you were hilarious. We even had a special #hashtag for you on Twitter. And I thanked you on my wiki page.
I've made my peace and stated in an earlier post that the GDS2 contestants are fine in my book. And I'm not just saying that. I really mean it. I'm impressed by how much these guys rose to the challenge. And damn if I aint jealous.
I hadn't noticed.
And sure, I could comment once again on how they could've done better by tapping into awesome resources such as me and been more daring in their designs and so-forth, but I've already pointed all that out so I'm not going to say a single word about Twitter. (JK)
I actually agree with you about the conservative tendencies of our designs. I think it's a function of how the contest was structured. I'm considering writing an article about it. I'll think it over a bit and see if I can figure out what the causal relationships were.
Okay, moving on... green and gold counters... anything can be justified in any color. Does that make it okay? Of course not. Personally, I would rather see gold counters constitute a role reversal between colors in terms of mana production to accommodate the flavor of a block rather than see them predominately in green simply because mana production is one of green's roles so long as it's executed in a manner that doesn't desecrate the color pie (especially blue) in the eternal formats - and by 'desecrate', I mean make ripples on the constructed pond. Gold counters should also add one mana of any color. Not only does that differentiate them from Eldrazi Spawn and open design space (which really is the most important factor imo), but it fits perfectly with the traditional mango term 'gold cards' used in lieu of multicolored cards.
R&D has made 5-color manafixing more and more accessible in the last few years, so I think that 5-color gold is realistic, and would serve to differentiate Gold from Spawn.

Your question is more likely to be seen if you respond to this tweet, but I will try to check this forum too:

We're not continuing the uncommon hybrid one-drop cycle from Return to Ravnica. Gatecrash has some new cycles!
I'm glad that Cloudfin Raptor will make the cut, though!
