I built the deck around the classic Aluren + Cloudstone Curio combo. It turns out that getting extra lands into play with each free creature cast is pretty insane. The deck is fairly robust as it allows for multiple win conditions: 1) Creatures with ETB draw effects + Aluren/Cloudstone + Psychosis Crawler 2) Aluren creatures + Overrun type effects 3) Rude Awakening. In addition, a bunch of recursion exists as well as some random value/synergy tied to the ETB effects. Overall I feel like this deck is pretty good and a hell of a lot of fun to play.
I'm thought about changing the Mirari's Wake for Knight of the Reliquary but the big mana expedites the game and feels better given the amount of creatures/tokens that usually end up on the board. Anyway, thoughts/suggestions are much appreciated.
Personally, I wouldn't use LD as a dedicated strategy per se, rather as a compliment to a good deck. LD as a focus is too linear and tends to piss a lot of people off. Armageddon, Ravages and Catastrophe all work well with beatdown strategies. That being said, if you want to go bant, go Rafiq aggro and use the the mass LD as a way to finish off the table. However, I think these cards really shine in decks like Rhys. You can play a bunch of token producers, curve out at like 6 or 7 tops, play other synergistic cards like Smokestack (Null Rod works here also), negate answers with LD and overwhelm your opponents.
What would happen if you had a halimar excavator and this guy in play and you kicked a rite of replication? Would the number of ally triggers from the rite double since the doppelganger can copy each of the copies rite produces?
I like this deck for a few reasons. The synergy with Lodestone Golem and Tectonic Edge is amazing. Being mono colored with access to a solid mana ramp package often makes resources on the board completely unbalanced as well. It also has the ability to out aggro your opponent with beaters like Leatherback Baloth and all the elves. Finally, if the game gets to this point, you can totally finish your opponent off with Terastodon or Eldrazi Monument. The board is flexable. I've found vampires to be the roughest matchup so I threw in Windstorm and Great Stable Stag. I use this deck mostly as a meta choice if a bunch of people are playing control or jund (and it loves those matchups). It might seem like a one-trick-pony but it's actually quite versatile.
