Hmmm I hadn't really considered beast within yet, and seeing as it's instant speed it might be worth a go. I personally have enjoyed swan song more for the reason that it really shores up the twin match to make it almost favorable, and that alone makes it worth consideration. As for Titan/wurmcoil slot I think that wurmcoil has the slight edge at the moment with the popularity of Jund in the meta, but I still am holding on to hope that I can find better ways to use and abuse inferno titan so that he's worth the 2 slots.

For reference my sideboard sits at

Swan song is also a moderately effective way of dealing with blood moon (the 1 mana hard counter is really clutch in certain circumstances) and paired with ee I think it gives enough sideboard answers to one of our biggest problems

All and all, it was a good night, especially since it had been so long since I've played. I think the SB needs some work, Spell Pierce was a bit underwhelming (Though I faced 0 blue decks), and Baloth alone isn't enough of an alt win condition. Going to try it out again next week.

I run a decklist a lot like yours (minus the pyroclasms for 2 Izzet Charms and a full grip of cryptics) and I've found that Wurmcoil Engine is a great alt-win con, but I've also been playing around with Inferno Titan in the spot as it (mostly) dodges things like phantasmal image and can really help if you get to 2-1 with its burn, and it's firebreathing can end the game in short order with the amount of ramp we run. My biggest problem with it is how it eats hard to terminate or Maelstrom Pulse, while Wurmcoil at least splits.

I also run Swan Song instead of Spell Pierce, and though I haven't done a lot of testing vs. UWR (either midrange or control) the testing vs. Twin has shown up in spades, as it hard counters Twin and being able to force a counter war to win with 1 mana hard counters obviously puts you in a much better situation than wading in with soft counters.

If you decide to give Inferno Titan a run in testing let me know how it stacks up for you, I'm curious to see how good he really is.

Does anyone know of any good pro tournament reports or primers for this deck? I've been looking and can't find any, but it seems hard to find modern primers and reports in general

Am I wrong in feeling like the monstrous doesn't really get factored into the dragon that much? When I first looked at the card I thought it was a solid std playable dragon, with extra monstrous added on.

It's a decent mana sink, buff your finisher a turn or two later, but the trigger doesn't really stand out to me. the opp will have 1-2 cards in hand if not top decking unless they just sphinx'ed but then they're probably bad if they did that while you've got the mana to go monstrous.. >_>

I playtested against the card a couple times. They were on Moro-red with 3 main deck. I lost every game it hit t4, because unless they had an empty hand or I was stonewalling creatures, the static ability would just get there, and half the time he was a 6/5 beater. He is insane. Not overrated. I hate this card.

I lol'ed. I hope everyone keeps trashing him and he drops to $10 for a week after prereleases so that i can grab the ones I need before he shoots back up as all the red decks running him smash face in the early tournaments.

yea you're being kind of unreasonable, trying to say the other guy is 'nitpicking' about the definition of 'healthy' because his definition didn't completely match up with yours. if you're gonna use a term to describe something you should try to be sure that the way you're using it is universally accepted.. and i know alot of people here, and wotc itself, has used 'healthy' to describe a format for more than just the amount of people turning out (specifically to describe how 'fun' and 'varied' the decks and choices are).

Occasionally you recognize a name, or there will be a buzz going around about it. For instance, I don't make a point to read Todd Anderson's articles on SCG, but I recognized his name when I played him at a PT side event once.

everyone started freaking out at my LGS at an FNM acouple months back when we saw Luis Scott-Vargas's name in the first round pairings... and then we found out this super skinny 17 year old happens to have that exact same name (he showed us his drivers license lol) we were all soooo disappointed

my play groups and LGSs haven't had much problem with damaged cards in packs (i saw maybe 2 or 3 people pull a damaged card since i started playing in alara up to 2 days ago)

but at the INN pre-release about half of the 50 people that came to the store reported atleast 1 damaged card, i didn't get any (thank god my garruk and ruinator were mint) but 2 of my friends had multiple damaged cards.

the combat damage abilities of the swords are triggered not activated right? so they wouldn't be effected by this card as long as they are already equipped to a creature when this comes down?

whats with Magic and these kind of gruffy hippie dudes? Dude looks extremely like Gerard/Gideon/a douche.

    i laughed pretty hard.

and we don't have confirmation that this guy is r/b. that's speculation.. based on 1 image we have of him? remember how that worked for that elspeth art that was 'definately green/white because look at the green orbs in her sword' or r/b tez because his mech arm was alight with a red glow? and this isn't even for card art. people wear all sorts of clothes, boesn't mean they all adhere directly to what those colors might represent to the viewer.. the dudes also got black present on his outfit maybe even white, and metal. 'OMG a r/b/u/w artifact planeswalker?!?//'

You can damage your own planeswalker. As long as it's your lightning bolt, you can choose to target yourself or your planeswalker. You just can't redirect damage if it's someone else dealing it, say your opponent's creature is attacking. He's the one that gets to choose.

i don't think so.. i believe only damage from a source an opponent controls can be redirected (and the opponents choice) to your PW

what with gideon going to ravnica to search for help against the eldrazi.. i imagine that being part of the set up for a return to ravnica, and once he's there he gets mixed up in all sorts of post-guild shenanigans .

the token will be a blank card that you can write the double sided transform card's details on. this will be what you shuffle into your deck, but when you cast it, you put the actual double sided card onto the battlefield instead of the token.

i imagine the tokens themselves will be just as worthless as any normal token (well wait.. i guess if the double cards see a ton of competitive play and quantities of tokens are low... i'd rage at that)
