In all six packs, the only non-red removal I got (red just blew) was Corrupt and Pacifism. Ended up going U/W fliers with one removal spell (not even any unsummons or aether adepts) and went 2-1-1.
This time I got a condem, pacifism, plummit in my deck. My W/G deck just wrecked, did stuff like turn 3 Juggernaut, turn 4 Ajani and swung with 6/4 vigilant juggernaut, turn 5 Serra Angel. Lost one match because I kept a bad hand and got a slow start until Serra Angel, only to have the opponent clone it then remove it. Went 3-1.
Last time I checked, earthquake, ball lightning, and hell's thunder are not in boros....
I have always used earthquake in boros, and sometimes use hell's thunder.
Earthquake just wrecks many creature decks, especially mythic bant. Nothing like killing a noble heirarch and two lotus cobras on turn two (usually if you do that, they'll play it slower the next game, which is nice if you don't draw EQ). It also acts to weaken planeswalkers or as a finishing burn spell.
Hell's thunder is good when you just need to be faster (ie against decks with lifegain like vampires) or if you face jund/mill.
Two red is fine, but 3 for ball lightning is too much for Boros imo.
Ranger of Eos, baby. Ranger of Eos. T4 Ranger fetching two angels, T5 two 6/6 flying lifelinkers + a survival cache or wall etc? Probably want a couple sunspring expedition or rest for the weary (in sideboard at least) for going up against aggro decks.
EDIT: Gah, for some reason totally missed reading the four pages after this was posted. Sorry about this post.
3. Bloodbraid Elf - I'm bending the rules here, but when it usually says "3/2 w/ haste, when it comes into play take 3 damage and discard 2 cards." I usually hate it more than any big dude.
4. Borgardan Hellkite - It's a flyer, with 5 damage coming in, and flash.
Do you actually fear the hellkite, though? Is it even played enough in your area for you to think "I hope he isn't holding a bogarden hellkite."? Although a powerful card, I haven't ever seen in played, and so I have no reason to fear or worry about it.
My 5, in no particular order:
- Baneslayer Angel
- Knight of the Reliquary (if it isn't a fatty when it comes out, just wait..)
- Sovereigns of Lost Alara
- Gideon Jura (He's a fatty in the sense that it's hard to kill him and if you don't have blockers or an answer, he will kill you.)
- Wall of Denial (I play aggro..)
Honourable mentions go to: Malakir Bloodwitch, Sphinx of Jwar Isle, Emrakul, and Iona.
I have made decks on paper, but I can't afford to test them. It's too expensive to acquire staple cards (noble heirarch, jace, etc) just to try a new deck that quite possibly won't make the cut. Pretty much the only standard I play is at shop tournaments so I can't proxy.
Sir Zapdos 2RR
+2: Up to three target creatures can't block this turn.
-1: ~ deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
-4: (Sneak Attack)

Also, shout out to all the fathers today!
T1: Forest, Birds of Paradise
T2: Lotus Cobra, Fetchland, Harrow, Sir Zapdos.
T3: Sneak attack Emrakul, opponent at 5 with zero permanents.
Hehe Basically I just think sneak attack + eldrazi = so good it's bad.
I like the "up to x can't block" though so you can use it with no creatures in play, I should have thought of that on mine.

+2: Target creature can't block this turn.
-X: Put an X/1 red elemental creature token with haste and trample into play. Exile that creature at the beginning of the next end step.
-5: Reddie, Fire Guy deals 3 damage to target creature, 4 damage to that creature's controller, and 5 damage to you. This damage can't be prevented or redirected.

Get playsets of fetchlands. They can go in almost any deck (like boros, perhaps some blue splash for distortion strike, or just in mono red to activate geopede and searing blaze) and will be in standard for a while. Best value imo.
I don't think Ponder triggers Archive Trap. It says look at the top three cards unlike a fetchland like Arid Mesa which specifically says to search your library. Plus you have to wait for them to actually do the searching and then Archive Trap them later in the turn they searched.
He means that the ponder would force them to draw from their empty library that turn, rather than wait until their next draw step. A fetchland would still need to be played to activate the traps.
Fetch a land> Ponder > 4 Archive traps in response > Ponder resolves, game over.
"Goblin guide deals 4-6 damage to target player. That player discards a removal card from his or her hand."
For one red mana.
As for his "drawback", against a player that has 24 lands in a 60 card deck, the guide will reveal a land 40% of the time. That's 2.5 attacks, or 5 damage per land put into their hand.
I know you said you didn't want to use it, but there's just nothing that comes close in red.
I like it, but I would much rather have Path. I think it is ridiculous to reprint Baneslayer and not have something like path to exile to deal with it. They just have to sit back with the angel as a blocker and it's safe from condem. What is a nonblack player supposed to do? Unsummon/oust it? :/
I think you really should have Cunning Sparkmage in this deck. Probably four of them in the mainboard. You can put Elder Mastery on it and ping an opponent any time you want the discard effect, and it also is an excellent card for removing opponents noble heirarchs, lotus cobras, etc.

Play this thing at the end of an opponent's turn while you are already tapped out

The fastest current standard win I've noticed was my own, turn 3 on the play with Boros Bushwhacker.
T1: Plains, Steppe Lynx.
T2: Fetch a mountain, Plated Geopede, swing for 4 with lynx.
T3: Fetch a mountain, Goblin Guide, Path Goblin Guide, swing for 7 with geopede and 6 with lynx (triple landfall). Bolt for 3; 20 total damage.
For most of my games, he could essentially read:
"Goblin guide deals 4-6 damage to target player. That player discards a removal card from his or her hand."
