Yeah I agree, although it's probably the closest we have to control...

I guess the 4cc Gifts deck counts as well.

So a friend of mine played UWR Control in GP Lyon, and even though I don't share his opinion, he recommends it. Here is his report : http://blad01.wordpress.com/2012/11/20/gp-lyon-report-from-arnaud-hocquemiller-too-much-thinking/

This guy would be pretty good in a RUG shell with Jace, the Mindsculptor... If that card was not banned, that is.

Thragtusk is a bit overpowered but apart from that Standard is great.

    Lotus Cobra
    Explore
    Farseek
    Plow Under
    Boomerang & pseudo-Boomerang
    Stone Rain & pseudo-Stone Rain
    Time Warp
    Temporal Mastery
    Bloodbraid Elf

Here is your Lotus Cobra - LD - Temporal Mastery deck all in one !

Unfortunately it loses pretty hard on the draw...

On the other hand, I don't see New Phyrexia mobilizing quite yet. They're currently too busy infighting and trying to sort out how they're going to go about compleating all the things to actually begin doing so.

Hell one of them is actually keeping the remaining noncompleated Mirrans safe just because he feels for their plight.

Problem is, if New Phyrexia comes back, the infect mechanic :
    1) It was not liked very much
    2) It does not have a lot of design space left

So we would have to see an infect-less New Phyrexia. Which would be a lot better imo.

    A maze thing ?

Set's symbol seems like a lack of inspiration... But the name is intriguing.

    1) Prevent 3 damages to target attacking or blocking creature (or gain 3 life)
    2) Deal 3 to target attacking or blocking creature
    3) Target creature gains double strike

I like modern, but the only real tier 1 decks to choose from today are :

    Jund
    UW Control
    Storm
    Splinter Twin
    Affinity
    4cc Pod
    Poison
    RG Tron
    Merfolk

Which is still very diverse ! I was going to write only 2-3 decks in the beginning of that post, but I ended with 8 decks I think are capable of winning a GP. And I'm pretty sure you can add RB Burn, WW Martyr and Boremandos.

    1. Return target creature to its owner's hand
    2. Look at target player's hand, you may choose an instant card and that player discards it.
    3. Target creature is unblockable this turn

Unfortunately, they will probably put some mill on it... Sigh.

    TLDR:
Budget players will play cheap decks regardless of format. Spikes and players that want to compete don't care about the price of decks, they care about winning.

How can someone be wrong so many times in a single sentence ?

    Budget players can be spikes.
    Spikes can be budget players.

Not every spike is as wealthy as you think they are and can play whatever they want.

A spike in modern can be a budget player in legacy depending on his budgets / priorities / etc.

The choice bewteen playing to win and going easy on your budget does not always exist; when it does, it's not only for the "budget players", but also for spikes.

It's not as simple as you think. Everyone has budgetary issues.

Going by your vision of things, only Platinium pros are real spikes then. (And even then, sometimes they have a hard time even finding cards, btw)

So yea, the price of cards IS worth taking into account.

The only reasonnable moves i can see are :

Unban Jace, TMS. It's a 4 drop (which is late in Modern), and there is more and more PW hate. (See Dreadbore) It's overpowered and would make control viable, but it would not be out of control.

Unban Wild Nacatl. It's just a one-drop 3/3... It makes Zoo more viable in the metagame. But it still dies to Bolt.

Unban Visions. But that does not seem reasonnable. At all.

Just in case... I "lost" a Jund modern deck on day 2 (sunday) with Olivia in spanish, Lightning Bolts in Player's Reward, Russian Seal of primordium...

And also a box with playsets of foil goblin guide, grim lavamancer, and good unco...

That's a lot of money and I don't have a lot of it (and the deck was not mine so I have to give a lot of money back).

So if you have any information or find these cards, please message me.
