Made day 2 at GP Vancouver: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/08-09-16-AUk-uwr-nahiri/
Went into day 2 at 6-3. The deck did not perform well enough for me in the last chance trials (I already had byes, just wanted to play for tix). Other than making day 2, my only other success that weekend was going 2-0-1 in the rebound and getting 15 packs. I've gotten sick of playing this deck and having so many bad matchups that I decided to take advantage of my LGS's trade in bonus thing going on and traded my deck in, moving into Eldrazi Tron. It was nice seeing other Jeskai Nahiri players at nearby tables on day 2 but they all had similar records considering how close they were to my seat.
I buylisted a couple Yugioh cards to them, and even though they were near-mint they graded them as played. I sent them a message on their site and never heard back from them. I don't know how they considered those cards to be played when the MTG cards I sent them had a couple nicks on them and those were graded as NM.
First round: Lost 0-2 to RG Breachshift. I didn't have enough counterspells in my hand first game and then in the second game I punted by tapping out for Nahiri on turn 5 after missing a land drop, since I thought my opponent didn't have the sixth land for Primeval Titan considering we both mulliganed to six.
Second round: Won 2-0 against Kiki chord.
Third round: Won 2-0 against the RW Pyrohemia Swans deck I saw on camera before. I was so excited to finally meet him. I had my only basic Plains in play which he Ghost Quartered, but I was able to find white mana later on to float to destroy both of the Blood Moons he played. I didn't really care about the Grafdigger's Cages.
Fourth round: Won 2-0 against the mirror, and he was from my LGS so we had fun. Both games I had Vendilion Clique to clear the way for Nahiri, and took down both games that way.
Fifth round: Won 2-0 against Infect. In the first game we both thought I was dead but I was able to find removal and win the game with Nahiri. Second game I had enough removal to destroy his board, then won the game by swinging with colonnade over and over again. We had a removal and pump spell war going on until I flashed in Izzet Staticaster to kill the creature we were fighting over.
Sixth round: Drew with my opponent to make top 8. We had one player with 15 points, one with 13 points, and six of us with 12 points so we all drew to make it so that we were all guaranteed top 8, because even if someone had 12 points after round 6, they'd only have 12 points while the rest of us would have 13 points.
Quarterfinals: Won 2-1 against affinity. Game 1 I had enough removal and counterspells to keep the board clear, game 2 he resolved a Chalice on 1 and I was stuck with five 1 mana spells in my hand at the end of the game. Game 3 I had a basic Plains and a Stony Silence in play, so when he cast Blood Moon I played Wear//Tear destroying Blood Moon and one of his artifacts.
All in all I'm pretty excited that I made top 4 and got the byes. First try!
I played in a five round tournament at Geek Fortress on New Year's, didn't do so well going 3-2. I drew pretty poorly in my first two matches that I ended up losing, which was Taking Turns and RG devotion. I got some advice on my deck from a friend that I don't see that often and TJ (commentator at Geek Fortress). They said that I should take out a Mana Leak for a Logic Knot. They also said I should switch the Supreme Verdict I have mainboard with the second Anger of the Gods in my sideboard and that RIPs would be better than Relics.
It's offical, Wizards has offically said %*#! it and started printing good cards again in uncommon and common rarity.
What's the worst that could happen? Attendance has bottomed out.
Any evidence to support that?
A standard event hasn't fired in my city in about three months now. Modern and Legacy are the only formats scraping by. Standard Showdown was a clear desperation move to get people to play Standard, but now they are finally addressing the real issues.
Can't wait for Bolas to Make Magic Great Again in Amonkhet.
Sets are planned so far in advance it seems doubtful that Aether Revolt's power could be a response to much more recent downturns in Standard popularity.
Seriously. There's no way they could have seen the popularity of standard dying down to change rarities in time. Also if someone doesn't see a standard event firing in their local area, that's anecdotal evidence. A bigger sample size would be those people on Twitter rating standard a 3/10 when responding to Sam Stoddard.
Not sure if this is off topic, but I recently went to my Wal-Mart and found a new promo of Thalia's Lancers in one of those 3 booster pack deals
Do you have an image? Looks like that has not been mentioned here yet
I don't have an image yet, I could if I knew how to post images to this site without some image leeching or whatever I see so many get flagged for.
Search Google for image hosting sites. A popular one is imgur.com. After you upload to Imgur (or another image hosting site of your choice), right click it and select "Copy image location" in the context menu. Make a new post here and use Ctrl+V. Or you could even host the image here on MTGS by clicking on the "upload an image" button.
This... Literally has nothing to do with the thread. This is some dude's blog for a DnD setting that it looks like he made up that happens to share a name with this potential new block.
Also, flat out claiming that "this is fake" with nothing to back it up when we know that these images did come from WOTC is the definition of talking out of the side of your neck.
You need to read my other posts. Just because they came from Wizards doesn't mean they're real sets. If you read the tweet, they say the image did in fact come from them but they were used to solicit feedback on pack design concepts. It's very easy for them to make up an image for a set that doesn't exist. Wizards has tons of unused art. Especially for Magic stories on their site.
They made a fake set to hide the outcome of the war on Mirrodin, why wouldn't they make a fake block for a survey?
Because, again, Mirrodin Pure was designed as part of a marketing campaign. It was meant to be seen by the public as a possible outcome. It was a one-time gimmic. Again, it's a very different situation that has nothing to do with whatever Atlazan is. They put a lot of resources into creating all of the Mirrodin Pure stuff because it was ultimately for the purposes of selling New Phyrexia, which would make their money back easily.
These packs were not meant to be seen by the public. They were private information. I'm not saying that they are from a real set, but I am saying that creating a world, a name, an aesthetic design, and commissioning art all takes a LOT of time and resources. I doubt that they would put that much effort into something whose sole purpose is survey fodder.
I think it is very likely that Atlazan is probably the current, unconfirmed name of a world that is currently in the works and they just chose that world as something to use for that survey. Additionally, the fact that they chose that world with art that's already been commissioned and packaging with a very distinct artistic style seems to imply that it's fairly far in the R&D process. I would guess that we'll learn about this world within the next year or so.
They make art all the time that doesn't get sold in the form of cards. They have so much unused art, especially just for Magic stories. And this image isn't private, the person who discovered it said they got it in a survey. Wizards did say on their twitter account that it did in fact come from them, and that they were looking for feedback on design concepts.
Just because it's new art doesn't mean it's legit. Just look at the advertising they did for Mirrodin Pure, which Wizards claimed could have been a possible outcome if the Mirrans won the war. They didn't, and New Phyrexia was planned all along. Considering they've done this before I'm not surprised that Atlazan and the other set are fake. Wizards makes art that don't exist for cards all the time. We got art for a planeswalker named Ramaz and he never became a card. Only very rarely will unused art become a card, like with Omniscience. We saw the art for Omniscience a long time before it became a card.
Mirrodin Pure is an entirely different case. These packs may not be material that will be sold, but that does not mean they are for fake sets. Mirrodin Pure was part of a marketing campaign and designed specifically to keep players guessing. These are images from what is (presumably) supposed to be an internal focus group survey. Atlazan could very well be a future block, but these packs and logos (and set names) may (and probably will) change.
I doubt they just make up fake blocks for survey purposes.

Curse TOS states that you must be 18 and older to use this site, so if they're underage then they should be banned.
