MTG Salvation

I've got Nicol Bolas, Palladia-Mors, Arcades Sabboth, AND Vaevictis Asmodi all built. I'm still brainstorming on a Chromium deck.

Bolas uses Wheel of Fortune effects to win with Underworld Dreams effects.
Palladia-Mors is an all-old-bordered deck with Lure, Basillisks, and creatures with Rampage.
Sabboth is mostly Walls, some bounce, some lifegain, and some terribly janky three-card-or-more combo wins.
Asmodi is all about giving the old dragon trample and haste. Things like Madrush Cyclops and Loxodon Warhammer.

I just picked up a foil Adephage and I really want to try it in my Mayael deck. The only card I think I can take out, though, is Godsire, and I'm not 100% the bug is an upgrade...

These folks are correct. Welcome to the format! Don't be discouraged by friends that may have extremely expensive cards; you don't need them! If you've been playing Magic for a long time, you already probably have great EDH cards. If you're new to the game, it's a great time to get into this format because Wizards seems to be catering to EDH in not only the preconstructed decks, but also tossing us gems in the core sets and expansions. The main thing is to build a deck. Build it today, right now if you have time. Then play it a bunch before you change it. Don't spend a ton of money right off the bat. A lot of really inexpensive cards are great in EDH, so play before you buy a lot of cards and see what you want for your deck.

The short version- play the format with a deck you built yourself and you'll end up spending just the right amount of money over time.

Planechase EDH has been fun for us, but in our experience, it has made every game extremely long.

I've got a Vaevictis Deck as well. Mana ramp through rampant growth-style effects (vs. artifact mana) coupled with haste and trample enablers lets me take out a player usually in one attack.

My oddballs are Ashling the pilgrim (deathtouch equipment/pro-red), Balthor the defiled (mono-black zombies/Living death effects), Kiku, night's flower (mono-black old-school flavor- nettling imp, sengir vampire, sorceress queen, royal assassin)

I guess Ohran Viper is my pet card, because I don't see why he isn't in more decks...

If you AREN'T planning on using enchantments to completely lock out the other players, maybe choose a Commander with less of a reputation. If you still want to play these colors, there are 9 other Legendary creatures that share Zur's colors.

If you want to really get into EDH, playing Zur may give you a bad start. You will be attacked from the get-go, and it'll be like playing Archenemy without any Schemes.

I can understand scooping if you're obviously a turn away from being killed. There are a few guys in our group that will scoop with 40 life and a full hand just because you've played a card that they either can't deal with, or have very little chance of dealing with, such as the above poster's Blood Moon example.

I've explained to them many times that this is a political game, and if they hang in there, go through some discards, and wait it out, someone is bound to help them. Blood Moon et al does not make you the most popular guy at the table! But time and time again, when something happens that they don't care for (Null Rod), they scoop.

My solution has become Loss Debt. I tell them that if they scoop, I owe them one. This means that any time I can get damage in there, I do it. This will be with Llanowar Elves if it has to be. I'll still Faith's Fetters and Disenchant other peoples' stuff, but damage belongs to the Scooper.

Thanks for the info! Not that I'm Rich Uncle Penny-Bags, but the price range you mentioned actually doesn't seem unfair to me, depending on the card. Some of the folks in these threads can expect some PM's from me soon!

Hello all, I'm new to the world of altered cards. I'm not an artist; I'm interested in acquiring some cool alters for my EDH decks. What's the etiquette on this stuff? If I see someone's card that looks awesome, do I P.M. them? How much do folks typically charge for their services? How long does it take? What happens if they spill Mountain Dew all over my Gaea's Cradle?! Any push in the right direction is appreciated, either through P.M. or just a reply on here, I'll try and pay attention... Thanks!

I'm probably the only person I know that doesn't own a cell phone. However, with their prevalence these days, any disputes over possibly banned EDH cards are easily settled when the other 3 players at the table whip out their iPhone. Just make sure you guys are in agreement on where to look! We all use www.Dragonhighlander.net for our banned list.
