What you're really asking is "how much can you count on Wizards to print money with no drawbacks after creating a format that allows them to reprint money?"

    Is the answer 100%?

This is a good point, reprinting Modern Staples will do something rare for Wizards; allow them to reap the benefits of the secondary market prices. If they made a Masters Edition style set, boxes would fly off the shelves in record time.

wow what a great find. I bet you are completely right.

to the poster above me, what cycle are you referring to?

The common Torment cycle of cards with a flashback cost of 2cmc and 3 life, specifically; Deep Analysis Spirit Flare Crippling Fatigue Flash of Defiance Acorn Harvest

    Cabals can exist anywhere.

Yes but the Cabal referenced in the card is (I'm fairly sure) the Dominarian Cabal we've all come to know and love. Yes, Cabals can exist anywhere, but in Magic, the word Cabal has come to be associated with the Dominarian one. Can they make other Cabals? Sure. Should they? I don't think so, it would only serve to annoy/confuse longtime players merely for the purpose of using a word with many synonyms.

On topic; I do believe that Deep Analysis is a good candidate for reprint, it's a good use of the flashback mechanic, and the OP seems to have some solid evidence as to why it would be reprinted. I'm not saying add it to the spoiler, just that we shouldn't be surprised if/when it shows up. Hell, maybe we'll see the whole cycle come back, or maybe they'll bring back some and make new ones for other colors, much like the re-appearance of the Leylines in M11.

If I recall correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong) something Wizards thought would be nice about modern is that it would function as an eternal format (which attracts players because their expensive cards won't rotate out) without the huge barrier to entry Vintage and Legacy have in the form of incredibly expensive cards with very limited supplies that are on the reserved list, preventing an increase in supply. This leads me to believe that chase cards of Modern that are in limited supply will be reprinted as a way to reduce the barrier to entry. I'm not saying we'll see every single card that costs more then 10$ reprinted, but that we will most definetly see at least a few of the chase cards reprinted at some point, most likely as the format begins to define itself, once the banned list is hammered out and top decks have been developed, revealing which cards are going to be chase cards.

TL;DR - I believe so, but don't expect it to happen soon, and don't expect it to happen in large batches. I'd say maybe each block will have one or two somewhat valuable cards reprinted (or in the case of Goyf, printed).

Also, since it's black, it could also have intimidate, and it would function in the exact same way as fear anyway. I don't see there being any reason to reprint it, but I don't see why they couldn't reprint it with intimidate.

Not true, cards that change other cards' colors would interact differently with Intimidate as opposed to Fear.

It has "Fear" in the up to date wording on MagicCards.info, but the printed card had the ability spelt out completely. So could they just print it the same way as they did in Judgement?

Which leads me to another question, say something is printed with a keyword that has been binned, fear for example.
Could they reprint the card and just right out the rules text instead, just like on older cards? Because it would be the same, but not 'really' using the keyword?

That would be sillier then just flat out printing it with Fear amongst the Intimidate-having critters running around now.

I'm thinking Nantuko, it may be a long shot, but we'll see.

Nantuko Monastery is the only precedence, but maybe they'll make 'em white this time around.

I prefer the new frames OMG

Really? I'd give WotC almost anything to go back to the old frames.

Dark Confidant in the old frames looks pretty sexy, me likey.

Would you say the same thing if you had hunkered down and actually acquired xiahou dun?

The real question is why is it Wizards sworn duty to protect the massive second market values on cards when they don't get anything in return for making sure that the $100 card from the $3 pack stays at $100.

I think the only valid reason to not print Xihou-Dun in FTV:L is to make sure these things aren't sold for quintuple the MSRP.

I'd forgotten one of the time zones between me and San Diego. :p

I saw your answer of three hours, and had to re-do my math a couple times, then I consulted the Grand Temporal Wizard, whom informed me of my correctness.

This should be happening pretty soon right?

I hope they reveal some art, even if it is so the u/r guy that was found in the files for DOP 2012. I am hoping for some confirmation of Kiora Atua being in ISD aswel.

If by soon you mean 4 hours, then yes, it's happening soon.

You know, Pit isn't that bad a reason to get Blue mana in the deck.

Yes but once you've added blue, you might as well get some of that awesome blue card draw.

I've actually been trying to get together a pseudo-zombie deck, using a Call to the Grave to keep the board under control, alongside Zombies to survive the call, and go on to beat face. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I will be doing so tonight. I'll let you guys know how it works out.

i think 4x cemetery reaper with 3-4x adaptive automaton and a couple zombie infestation combined with possibly smallpox might be a better direction to go.

I can definitely see Adaptive Automaton working out, but I feel like Zombie Infestation is too difficult to feed, and most likely won't be worth it. The plan isn't to overwhelm the opponent with a zombie hoard, the plan is make sure the opponent has no defenses ready for when I swing with a select few zombies.

Smallpox could be interesting, but makes it harder to insure dropping a Call to the Grave.

I'll keep all of this in mind, as using Smallpox can be powerful, but would require going in a different direction (perhaps). Thank you for your input.

This may seem silly, but I feel as though Call to the Grave deserves some sort of testing. The main plan here is to use good ol' Birds of Paradise and Cultivates/Rampant Growths to ramp up to 5 mana and drop a Call to the Grave alongside a zombie or 2.Beast Within paired alongside Call to the Grave is also quite powerful, as it practically negates the drawback, giving us a pseudo Vindicate. Unfortunately, there are not many powerful/useful zombies in Standard now-a-days, but I'll have to make due without them. Glissa, the Traitor is quite a powerhouse, and Skinrender serves as both removal and a beater to survive the call, Vengeful Pharaoh is essentially a big beat stick, deathtouch is nice, but somewhat unnecessary, and Cemetery Reaper is in there just to see what happens. Swiftfoot Boots serves to protect my little undead minions, what I consider to be a fairly big weakness.

I'm not entirely sure how this will all play out, I plan on proxying it up and testing it tomorrow night in between draft rounds. Questions? Comments? Concerns?
