Yeah luckily I had the supplier hookup so I got a discount on mine. So I should at least get my moneys worth at least. Here is hoping I win the goyf lottery.
Am I the only one happy with modern masters 2015? I think people are forgetting that a lot of the value in the first MM at rare was comprised of overpriced (at the time)fringe commander playables that tanked a week after the set came out, not actual format staples.
The problem is the value density of this set is much lower than the price they set. The boxes are like $260(usd) after tax and the average value of cards is going to be somewhere in the $220 range. They should have kept the same price point as the last MM and honestly most people(i would) would be happy.
Thats right, its the ban list thread, not the ***** about what should be unbanned, thread.
it says discussion. Just because you don't agree with what is being discussed does not mean it should not.
Nothing has changed here lol. Everyone post rational reasons for cards to be unbanned. One guy says no because he hates this card or mechanic. Then bocephus comes in with an army of stawmen, and pointless pandering to turn the thread into a pissing contest of who can quote wotc more. I love you guys.
IMO wotc needs a new mission statement for modern. So far it is in such an awkward state. I mean only around 10% of the damn card pool is playable. Maybe 15, but the number is so low. Even several of the powerful cards of the past aren't even good enough. I blame power creep. At this point we need some of the more powerful cards off of the ban list, or like 10 more cards on the thing. Either would be better than what we have currently.
The republican conservative christians(aka essentially all repubs) are completely against any form of socialism. I find this funny because the main figure from their religion was probably the biggest socialist in history if he was a real person and any claim in their book is legit. As a matter of fact the bible as quoting from jesus essentially demands that people be socialist. IMO makes no sense to me but whatever.
Edit: of course it happens many times that people forgo their beliefs in money is involved.(for example that catholic hospital arguing that a fetus is not a person despite their stated religious beliefs to the contrary)
LaPille thinks differently, and I'm willing to go along with his opinion, given that he has access to a whole lot more info on deck performance than any of us do.
He also goes on to say
Dredge is a miserable, non interactive archetype that's just not fun for anyone other than Dredge players. That's not a good deck to keep around. When one side of the table is having fun and the other is having a miserable time, that's bad for Magic.
If anything storm and eggs are much less interactive than dredge, and both are faster and more consistent. I find it funny that wotc picks and chooses different things to follow. At least be consistent with your bannings that way your reasons are reasons and not excuses.
That being said I was happy to see some changes because change is greatly needed in modern. Hopefully next cycle we can unban some more cards since it won't be PTQ season.
Bloodbraid elf- The lottery elf probably needed to go. Jund needed something hit because there is no reason for jund to be ~25% of the meta in an format as large as modern. After watching so many games from different GPs so many times jund was losing then double lottery elf for the win. Jund will still be the best deck in the format as far as powerlevel goes. This should kill its popularity as some people will deem it bad now. Banning BBE essentially weakens every other card in the deck because you see less cards. I am glad to see this one and can't wait to see what modern looks like now. I might just start brewing again.
Seething Song- Many of the pros have been calling for storms head since the inception of the format. The issue with storm(and eggs) is the fact that you can't really react to them unless your running counterspells. Combine that with a less than 4 turn(barely) win average and any deck not packing 10 counters or discard spells has almost not chance game 1. Then game 2 is always a crapshoot because you have to see that 3 of narrow hate card from board or just lose.(or lose after seeing it still)
a 3rd turn win in storm vs a turn 3 win in infect or certain pod decks.
Many of the complaints have been but this combo deck can win on turn 3 at close to the same rate as storm. The thing is they don't because they can be interacted with via removal. Magic is played between 2 or more players and not a game where you can see how fast you could win each game. If I was sitting behind a zoo deck for example I would rather see pod or infect as opposed to storm 100% of the time. My path to exiles, and different bolts are live and can buy enough time to feasibly win.
OVERALL
While I would have loved to see some blue cards come off of the ban list(calling chrome mox and BB blue cards ) these bannings are honestly a step in the right direction and the first thing wotc has actually done right with modern. Nixing storm and weakening jund opens quite a bit of space for brewing and for fringe decks to function.
