I know what you mean. A lot of people wanted this to be good. But DC is apparently incapable of making a good super hero film. I will still likely catch this film at some point but after the reviews it just wasn't a high priority.
It is mind boggling. Pick a character everyone knows and likes, Batman, Wonder Woman, The flash, NOT Superman!, put them in a classic story that all the fans know, don't cram 3 story lines together. One or maybe two but with the classic story being the main thrust of the movie, add a little wry humor and good acting jobs, stir not shaken and presto!, you have a billion plus dollar movie. It is so simple. The Dark Knight movies did this. Man of Steel did also but lacked the humor and it was Superman. That's why it did not have legs to sustain the earning pace as long as it should have. It's also why Batman vs Superman was a dud.
I started to write that I did not think that DC characters had the same appeal as Marvel characters but as I started to type that I realized I was wrong. That is not true. There are just as many great DC characters as Marvel. They just don't have the same level of competence when it comes to making movies.
I'm not going to waste my money on this. I made that decision the second I heard about the reshoots. I can't remember hearing of a movie that basically got "remade" after it had already been shot, which was not a mess.
It can be done. Top gun is the best example. They did all the shooting and realized there was no plot to the movie so they brought the actors back in to a sound booth and re-recorded all the dialogue from the flying shots to force a plot. Then boom one of the best films of the decade to a lot of people. I haven't seen suicide squad yet but I still kinda want to. To write a movie off for something as trivial as it getting reshoots seems a bit unfair. I say give it a chance then embrace your full right to smash talk it if it is bad.
My post is misleading, my reasons for writing this movie off go beyond the fact it was reshot. I did not explain that which is my mistake. The reshooting is a big reason but not anywhere close to the entire reason I wrote off the film. It is unfortunate that it appears this film is a dud though. I really wanted it to be good. Joker and Harley Quinn are two of my absolute favorite DC characters, I was pulling for them. For some reason DC does not understand the formula Marvel is using with it's movies and they are getting their rears handed to them in the competition for comic movie dollars.

I'm not going to waste my money on this. I made that decision the second I heard about the reshoots. Hey guys, recently I've been trying to make strides in my self esteem and view of life, but every now and again I have relapses and recently one has really got me feeling like crap.
Let me preface this by saying that recently (the last two months) I've cut a lot of crap out of my life. I used to smoke a lot, but I totally cut that out of my life in order to improve my happiness. I started to go to the gym as well, and I have been seeing some great results. I've been writing more music lately, and I'm liking the results with that too.
Congratulations! These are all excellent changes. Find things that you like and do them, find new things to try and try them. Happiness is the journey not the destination.
Despite all of these things there are still times (like now) where I feel absolutely worthless. All it takes is a catalyst and I'll be right at rock bottom again. Today my car broke down on the side of the road. I don't know whats wrong with it, but I don't have the money to fix it, and I need it to get to school and the gym. Suddenly I feel like a piece of ***** again.
Feeling helpless or like a victim is frustrating. For me it is also something I choose not to do. When circumstance statts messing with me I remember this quote

Then I do something to take control of the situation. I maynot be able to fix the situation that particular time, but the next time something like this happens I will be much better prepared to deal with it. I will also be able to preventatively work to keep it from happening again. This helps a great deal to stop the feelings of helplessness and give me a great feeling of strength, control and accomplishment, much the same as the feeling you probably get from going to the gym and seeing the results of regular working out.
There's also a girl I'm talking to a lot and I know damn well I don't have a lick of a chance with her, which is screwing my head as well.
You do not know this at all. Women are amazing creatures and are God’s gift to men. They have an infinite capacity to find, nurture and cherish qualities in us that we do not even know we have. Yes, she may not like you as more then a friend, but in my experience, which is fairly considerable, there is a greater chance that she will. Regardless, if you never, ask you never get kissed.
Everything we do, everything we try is an opportunity to experience something wondrous. Why would anyone ever limit their opportunity to experience life? Ask yourself, “what is the worst that can happen? In this case, she says she is not interested in you that way. Ok, but at least she know you are interested and if she changes her mind, and women do that all the time, she now knows she won’t have to worry that you won’t be interested. Women Dig confident guys, even if they are just guys who only seem confident. They won’t know the difference and you will become more confident simply by trying.
I don't know how to properly define my mental state without writing a novel here, but I have really bad mood swings. Sometimes I'm totally satisfied with life and I'll be happy, but then I feel so down that I can barely function. I've been suicidal in the past and sometimes I think about it now and again, only fleeting. There are too many things I love about this world that keep me from doing it, but there's also too many things that make me loathe myself.
Suicidal thoughts are something you need to address. You need to speak to someone professional about them. I would recommend your doctor, church leader, community mental health offices, friends and family, if you can. Some healthcare professionals are required by law to notify agencies when someone tells them about this so know that up front. My son told a doctor that he had suicidal thoughts and he was held for several days for observation. I personally think this is a wise precaution but it could cause problems if you are not expecting something like that to happen.
Sorry if this was a lengthy post, it's been something I've been meaning to ask anybody at this point.
No need to be sorry about anything or afraid to ask for advice or help when you need it. Everyone, from time to time needs help. If they say they don’t they are lying to themselves. The smart people are the ones with the courage to ask for help and the wisdom to use the advice they receive.

On the other hand, my emotional reaction is that it seems like more and more players are doing everything they possibly can to avoid actual behavior analysis and relying totally on role mechanics and claims to catch scum; things like this - if allowed to run unchecked - would just contribute even more to the problem. So I really wouldn't mind seeing such things banned.
I also see this as a growing trend. This is what I have referred to frequently as playing the game using Hoyle's Rules. Players that rely on analyzing the mechanics of a game put themselves at a disadvantage in a well crafted game. The better the game design the larger the disadvantage. It is unfortunate that so many players take this approach to playing and so aggressively employ it to the exclusion of learning to develop the other, and in my opinion, more effective methods of analyzing game play and player reactions. A mod must take into account that some players can only play the game by analyzing the game design and role mechanics. They need to make sure that there is no unintended pattern in the game or role design that will give away roles or players.
If a game is designed perfectly and there is not a single pattern or mechanic that can give an informational advantage, what happens to those players who rely on those design flaws? They are either forced to employ or develop the other techniques or they play poorly or lurk. Game design and role mechanics vary in complexity and may or may not be an viable method to get useful information to base sound actions on.
A mod who intentionally plants traps or tricks into the design of his game is called a bastard mod, but he may just be trying to force the players in the game to look at the information they have and think beyond the usual a + a = B approach. I think that this is, in part, a main source of some of the complaints and sour grapes I have read after some exceptionally well designed and run games ended. It is always the Design analyzers that are the loudest complainers saying how poor the design was or how unbalanced the game was, when in actuality it was simply their inability to think outside their step one, two, three approach to the game.
@HE7: Could you give us all the times for exactly when you took in and released people (except for maybe your last couple of actions, since we, of course, want to keep the scum off balance as to what you're currently doing.)

I kept Raf in custody longer then I originally intended to. I was making an educated guess as to how long it may have been since the last kill to try to best protect Raf at a point when I thought he would be a very likely target of scum attack.

I did not know what Raf’s ability was but from his actions relating to catching AS I assumed it was investigatory. I hoped that by waiting I would give Raf an opportunity to use his ability before I put him into protective custody.

Raf would not be able to use his ability from custody but I did find out he could post. I also wanted to try to keep him in custody long enough to let the scum get their kill back an then waste it on Raf. I apparently miscalculated the game time and real time conversion. To be honest I’m still not sure on the conversion.
BTW, to Hawkeye: Whetever, dude. I'm not going to get into a fistfight with the blob. When you learn to respond to people using paragraphs and without burying all your points in line upon line of recriminations, I'll bother answering you. In the meantime, all my points pretty clearly stand.

I've been playing mafia with Hawkeye since literally my first ever game of mafia, back on mtgnews before mtgsalv existed. I have been scum with him, town with him, scum against his town, town against his scum, a couple of times each at least. I back my read over you newbies who think that one or two games is an adequate comparison.
The problem with this declaration Raf is that you don’t say How often you have been right in guessing my alignment when you are a townie. It hasn’t been that often. You are trying to make people think you are better then you really are.
Especially when I read that you think he will play the jailer role the same way as he did in a game where he apparently screwed up and the town lost. You think Hawkeye doesn't learn? Yeesh. Why don't you try reading how Hawkeye played a town doctor role in Trek Mafia (a game in which both Cyan and I certainly played... and this is having distinct overtones of my grand crusade against bateleur in that game).
I freely admit that I try new ways of playing my roles and new strategies to win. It makes the game more fun and challenging. It’s funny that you cite Star Trek Mafia. I was a town player in that game as well and was the subject of a blind and unthinking group of townies being egged on by a few scum. The situation is very similar. I spoke nothing but the truth in answering attack, after attack, after attack. I explained in detail exactly what I had done and what my thinking had been and still you pushed to get me lynched.
The fact that you knowingly are recreating that situation Raf is very interesting and telling. As you know this has also happened in at least two other recent games. 1001 and Random 3. In 1001 I was lynched and what do you know, I was telling the truth in that game. I told the truth about everything in that game. In Random 3 I was not lynched but I came within 1 vote of being lynched for a very long time. In that game I also told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I was not lynched in that game but it was shown that I did tell the truth at the end of the game when the roles were revealed.
Raf, in all the games we have been in together I would say you should know my tell. I have two and I cultivate both of them. I guess I was wrong about that.
The key thing is that Hawkeye can explain away everything, but also that he HAS to explain away everything, because everything he've done works for the scum.
This has already been addressed by others. You can put a negative spin an anything Raf and you have. You have put your patented full court press on to trying to bums rush the town into lynching me. You have not singled out a statement or a single action I have made and tried to make a case as to why it was scummy. Raf, you have taken that approach to almost every single statement or action I have made.

Raf, you remember the time difference. I happen to work all day and it being Friday evening my wife and i like to try to get a little time together for dinner. I logged on as soon as I could and, gosh, I am trying to catch up and respond as quick as I can. Of course you do have to try to mischaractorize this like you have so many other things, by coming up with some sort of scummy explaination.
The problem you have now Raf is that other players have found your constant attacking every action and word I make suspicous and lacking substance. This has given them the opportunity to question your arguments and when that happens your constant attempts to paint my every word as scummy must stand or fall on it merits. It appears that others are finding your arguments weak or skewed so that they have valid questions as to your arguments merits and your motives alignment.
I won't lie that i don't see this as encouraging. I have a valuable ability and now that i can no longer work the strategy i started out with i have asked for suggestions as to how my ability can be best used for the town. You have ignored this Raf. Are you not even secure enough to play the devils advocate and suggest how my ability can be best employed?

I hope I can remember how to play.
I'll need to do a lot of reading of the recent games to get the feel of the game back.

I also see this as a growing trend. This is what I have referred to frequently as playing the game using Hoyle's Rules. Players that rely on analyzing the mechanics of a game put themselves at a disadvantage in a well crafted game. The better the game design the larger the disadvantage. It is unfortunate that so many players take this approach to playing and so aggressively employ it to the exclusion of learning to develop the other, and in my opinion, more effective methods of analyzing game play and player reactions. A mod must take into account that some players can only play the game by analyzing the game design and role mechanics. They need to make sure that there is no unintended pattern in the game or role design that will give away roles or players.
If a game is designed perfectly and there is not a single pattern or mechanic that can give an informational advantage, what happens to those players who rely on those design flaws? They are either forced to employ or develop the other techniques or they play poorly or lurk. Game design and role mechanics vary in complexity and may or may not be an viable method to get useful information to base sound actions on.
A mod who intentionally plants traps or tricks into the design of his game is called a bastard mod, but he may just be trying to force the players in the game to look at the information they have and think beyond the usual a + a = B approach. I think that this is, in part, a main source of some of the complaints and sour grapes I have read after some exceptionally well designed and run games ended. It is always the Design analyzers that are the loudest complainers saying how poor the design was or how unbalanced the game was, when in actuality it was simply their inability to think outside their step one, two, three approach to the game.

The problem with this declaration Raf is that you don’t say How often you have been right in guessing my alignment when you are a townie. It hasn’t been that often. You are trying to make people think you are better then you really are.
I freely admit that I try new ways of playing my roles and new strategies to win. It makes the game more fun and challenging. It’s funny that you cite Star Trek Mafia. I was a town player in that game as well and was the subject of a blind and unthinking group of townies being egged on by a few scum. The situation is very similar. I spoke nothing but the truth in answering attack, after attack, after attack. I explained in detail exactly what I had done and what my thinking had been and still you pushed to get me lynched.
The fact that you knowingly are recreating that situation Raf is very interesting and telling. As you know this has also happened in at least two other recent games. 1001 and Random 3. In 1001 I was lynched and what do you know, I was telling the truth in that game. I told the truth about everything in that game. In Random 3 I was not lynched but I came within 1 vote of being lynched for a very long time. In that game I also told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I was not lynched in that game but it was shown that I did tell the truth at the end of the game when the roles were revealed.
Raf, in all the games we have been in together I would say you should know my tell. I have two and I cultivate both of them. I guess I was wrong about that.
This has already been addressed by others. You can put a negative spin an anything Raf and you have. You have put your patented full court press on to trying to bums rush the town into lynching me. You have not singled out a statement or a single action I have made and tried to make a case as to why it was scummy. Raf, you have taken that approach to almost every single statement or action I have made.
It’s the equivelent of you asking if I have stopped beating my wife and when I say I don’t beat me wife you come back with “so you used to beat your wife”.
The real situation here is that you have pulled out all the stops to try to get me lynched and no matter what I say you have tried to misrepresent it. When one of your charges has been addressed and no longer looks to be sticking you bring up another.
If I and others are forced to defend themselves from your constant mischaracterizations and charges they will not have time to look into the actions of anyone else or you.
What scum suspects are you talking about? What players are you referring to when you say players are smirking while sucking up to TFF?

Raf, you remember the time difference. I happen to work all day and it being Friday evening my wife and i like to try to get a little time together for dinner. I logged on as soon as I could and, gosh, I am trying to catch up and respond as quick as I can. Of course you do have to try to mischaractorize this like you have so many other things, by coming up with some sort of scummy explaination.
The problem you have now Raf is that other players have found your constant attacking every action and word I make suspicous and lacking substance. This has given them the opportunity to question your arguments and when that happens your constant attempts to paint my every word as scummy must stand or fall on it merits. It appears that others are finding your arguments weak or skewed so that they have valid questions as to your arguments merits and your motives alignment.
I won't lie that i don't see this as encouraging. I have a valuable ability and now that i can no longer work the strategy i started out with i have asked for suggestions as to how my ability can be best used for the town. You have ignored this Raf. Are you not even secure enough to play the devils advocate and suggest how my ability can be best employed?
I'm hoping that you are not going to simply dismiss this request to you and everyone as another scummy action. I say i hope, but i am lacking faith that you won't try it.
