Damn, I haven't seen anything new since Mushishi s2. I need to actually pay attention to new releases again.

What I don't get about Anime fans. Why say "Shokugeki no Soma" Why not just say.. ya know.. Food Wars..
To add to what others have said, sometimes the official title translations are new names instead of actual translations and I don't like that. And then there are others where the name is just almost never referred to in English so it's actually probably more helpful to people to give the untranslated name.

I guess I'm fairly used to reading and watching things from other cultures so it doesn't bother me that much.

Hello I play LoL and other video, card and board games. And read fiction and do other nonproductive things that definitely occupy the majority of my free time. And yet also have a full time job and plan to go for a PhD as well.

Don't see the issue behind a hobby being done behind a screen or with strangers - not to mention that it can be played with friends in much the same way as Magic.

Good for you, I am sure you have a fulfilling life with your wife and kids trying to pay off your mortgage.
You seem to be ignorant of the fact that someone with even the *****tiest of STEM degrees and good enough college-period credentials to even consider a PhD program can start, let alone progress beyond, many times minimum wage. And I'd be quite willing to guess that a disproportionate amount of people in a similar situation heavily play video games.

I guess I should probably stop though, since it's not that relevant to the thread.

...you are posting on a Magic: the Gathering forum.

What's your point? I play Magic once a week or so; not behind a screen but with real people I know IRL. I treat it as it is: a vice.

It's good to have a vice from time to time like video games and such but it shouldn't occupy the majority of your time.

Place by my place serves killer burgers and has an incredible rotating craft beer list--most of it is on tap.
Yea we're getting a ton of gastropubs popping up here, most of them are great.

Even though I'm in the heart of IPA country I don't usually like hoppy stuff. Or blonde ales for that matter. End up usually choosing between 2 or 3 stouts among the tens of IPAs when I go to a brewery here. Could use more porter representation too.

I'm just bracing myself for all the goddamn pumpkin swill that's going to be brought to parties that I host :/
Speaking of that, I actually decided to try Pumpkin Down from Ballast Point because pumpkin Scottish Ale sounded relatively interesting (and I trust Ballast Point a lot more than most breweries). Turns out it's pretty okay.

    fables: the wolf among us

ive heard good things about it, but havent played it yet. (telltale games)
Along these lines but less violent than telltale: A Tim Schafer point and click (Grim Fandango, The Secret of Monkey Island, maybe Broken Age if you want more modern), or Botanicula or Machinarium. These are all generally less violent and dramatic, more humorous and light.

Unfortunately I can't really think of turn-based strategic games that aren't violent (aside from board games in video game form), being a turn-based CRPG fan I play a fair deal of those. Plenty with such dated graphics that they aren't graphically violent, at least.

If you think she's up for something more involving and real-time oriented, a platformer could be good too. I've heard Ori and the Blind Forest is hard but it's so damn beautiful it might be a decent shot for some non-gamers (my mom would probably like it). On the other hand a game like Guacamalee is not very hard but has some similar draws. Depending on her personality, some of the puzzle/platform games that have popped up since Super Meat Boy's success may be good, though they tend to be executionally demanding they also let you restart levels at any instant. I'm a big fan of Escape Goat.

I'm not personally into the series but the Professor Layton games definitely come to mind too and apparently some are on Android and iOS.

edit: Also Psychonauts, weird I didn't think of that earlier given I was talking about platformers and Tim Schafer separately.

When people call you ***** keep in mind that most people who play the game have a terrible understanding of it and there's a pretty high chance they're wrong. Even the best players (as in up to and including the top-tier pro players) have knowledge gaps and playstyle biases. If you judge that they are right, that means you've been reminded of something to improve, and if you don't judge that they're right, well they might be wrong and even if they are right, they surely did a lot of ***** wrong too so who cares.

From there focus on improving yourself. But if you aren't someone (like me) with an unfortunate love of competitive team games that have a lot to master then you'll probably end up quitting LoL sooner or later.
If the community is so abusive that it's ruining the experience for you, it's not worth playing. I've had to drop games like that in the past because of it. Plus, aren't there two alternatives to it right now?
There are more than that, but they pretty much all have these community issues because of the nature of the genre. In my (fairly limited) experience the dota 2 playerbase is worse, in ways.

I disagree that the OP should be worried at all about speed at this stage.
I don't recall anyone saying he should be. Yes, form is fundamentally important as with all athletics, probably even moreso than usual since swimming takes place in a whole different state of matter.

    1. Learn to flip-turn if you aren't, because it'll cut down on your downtime when you don't need to rest. Freestyle is the best stroke for burning calories, if you want to work specific muscle groups instead then other strokes may be better for that. Get the technique of your strokes down - it's not as important for swimming to burn calories as for swimming for racing, but it will still help. It's amazing how much more energy efficient a well-executed stroke is than a clumsy one, and it translates to both speed and endurance (and is tied with breathing).

I'm not sure how it actually affects your efficiency, but you might consider resting by treading water instead of holding the lip of the pool. As a guy who played water polo and had to get good at eggbeater, if you try you will get to the point where you can eggbeater indefinitely and casually recover while doing it. It strikes me as a much less awkward position. People tend to find it hard and tiring as a beginner, but hey I guess that means you're burning calories.

    2. Since it's so low impact, nothing really beyond the general things like not pushing yourself too hard. Don't hold your breath for overlong, it's not worth the strain because it won't even help as much as having good streamlined breathing for your strokes. And of course, don't run into a wall or dive into the bottom. A swimmer's dive should be very low angle with the surface of the water anyway, if you feel like diving.

    3. For freestyle, you want to turn your head to the side as your opposite arm is finishing its reset (nearing full extension). By the time it begins its stroke (pulling), you should be done breathing with your head back down. In this time you should be able to get your mouth to the air mostly by turning your head and only very slightly tilting your neck back. The idea is you don't want to lift the crown of your head up. Exhale through nose while your head is in the water so you can purely inhale (through mouth) when you go up. If you have trouble staying going straight, alternate the side you breath from (every 3 strokes). Make sure you don't drop your arm deep into the water when you breath - it should be easy to fix if you aren't moving your head/spine/shoulders.

On the side you're breathing from, at the time you're breathing your hand should be pulled completely back just above your shoulder/near your neck and around the time to come out of the water to extend and reset its stroke. A neat thing of note with this is that it has just passed your mouth and created a small trough, making it easier to breath. This is good because the less you have to turn your neck, the less torque makes you want to turn the lower parts of your spine and the less you deviate from a hydrodynamic position. In freestyle, your momentum doesn't really stop so it's very impactful.

For breaststroke, at the end of each glide you should be going above the surface. Inhale through mouth then, exhale through nose below. You reset the stroke while above water and should be back to gliding position by the time you're starting the stroke. Think of resetting the stroke as drawing a heart (point away from you) that comes in fairly close below your pecs (at this point you are fairly upright with chest thrown a bit forward, above water breathing), and then the stroke is bisecting that heart as you kick and put your head back in position. Then glide until you reset again. Breathing for breaststroke should be very easy if you're doing the rest right.

Note that for both these and other strokes, the idea is to use as little effort as possible to reach the air during rest position, take a fast breath by inhaling only, and return to a hydrodynamic position before the actual propulsive movement of the stroke begins again.

If you need a 2/2 so badly that you're willing to destroy one of your children every turn and go a bit above the mana curve, not too bad.

Been on an epic poetry kick, read Beowulf last and now shallowly into Paradise Lost. Nice to read verse originally written in modern English, for once. Not sure if I'm going to reread an old favorite next or some of the Canterbury tales.
Don Quixote. I know I'm hardly the first person to say this, but... it's pretty good, guys.
You might want to try Jacques the Fatalist if you haven't, I think most people who really like Don Quixote should read it. Especially if you're interested in more messing with the formula of the novel and good one-liners/quotables but less solid characters.

I like obscure underground metal and it's something there's essentially no chance of anyone recognizing, so only the aesthetic can come through.

+ it's spooky and looks like it could be mtg art, I wonder if anyone has ever wondered what card it is or something.

Azir on release was awful, mostly due to bugs. His ult is still horrifically bugged but most of the rest has been fixed.

If his ult was actually reliable I might play him still, but as is you can very easily just lose any given all-in when the ult you need to win just about all of them just does nothing.

His playmaking potential alone is probably going to make him broken in competitive at some point if not immediately. Similar situation to gnar, though probably with a less impactful early game.

The possible setups and denials with ult alone are insane. Can easily see a single bard ult win a competitive game.
