I think a clear majority, if not the vast majority of standard players wanted the ban. People yelling at wizards now are either angry players who always like to yell at wotc, and ban-supporters still upset they didn't ban a couple days ago even though they are now presumably happy with the ban.
So there was nothing wrong with them waiting two days after the scheduled announcement to ban the card?
You would be ok with them setting a precedent where standard cards can be banned or unbanned at any point in the season?
No one has even addressed the fact that with only two days of the new set, many players on MTGO aren't going to have all the cards from the new set. They aren't going to want to try something new for an event.... not with money on the line. Of course people are going to play something established and available and are going to win with it at a high percentage.
The more I put thought into the situation, the more it seems like a joke.
What do you mean you people? I never had a problem with them NOT banning that card. Wizards decision making is just inept; They could have banned the card on a scheduled day. They could have printed cards to answer the combo. They also could have chosen to not let the combo slip through the cracks.
All these alternatives and in the end THIS is how the chose to handle it.
These vary in strength depending on starting loyalty(nissa) and the efficiency/impact of there abilities, but most have seen fringe play at least. A few of them were too underpowered or were in the wrong meta to see much play.
Every single one save Ashiok has seen wide spread play 3 mana walkers that can generate value apear to be very good. The biggest disadvantage to Ashiok is that it's strength relies on your opponents deck instead of your own. I still expect Ashiok to see widespread play but generally in sideboards rather than maindeck.
There have been a few other notable walkers that don't fall into these two catagories who just have superb abilities but they tend to be the exception rather than the rule.
You're right... but let's be a bit more concise.
Good Planeswalkers can stop threats already on the battlefield and/or affect cards in hand. THAT's IT! Great walkers can do BOTH of those things, but one can suffice. The ultimate ability doesn't apply in this case though.
What do good planeswalkers do? We've had how many walkers grace our tables? There are some good ones, and some not so good ones. The ones that are good are able to ___________ .
Accurate card evaluation from users on this site is mediocre at best. My suggestion would just be to proxy it in a red deck with cheap creatures and burn.
The drawback:
It doesn't have a drawback... in the same way that Goblin Guide doesn't have a drawback. You're playing this card if you're red aggro.

That is why I stated I have lost confidence.
Good God
I think the stats on this card gives it much more utility than is initially apparent.

So... is Ashiok Good?

Somebody fill in the blank for me.

Mark my words... control players will run 10-12 Temples in their builds, and they'll be happy to do it.
I like the design.
