I misread this thread title and thought it said “Life from the Loam”

Old border Loam would be so sweet, but only with Terese’s art

I'm not wondering about the dismember, I'm wondering where's the Damnation?
Damnation and Thoughtseize have been spoiled. And here I was bashing the set for lack of decent reprints.

did you see the rarity of one?

Yeah and I don’t see any point in getting so salty about it, of course they’re going to put Damnation at mythic in the remaster of its premiere set, even though it doesn’t really need to be at that rarity. It was a chase money card for such a long time, and it was one of THE face cards of Planar Chaos and the entire Time Spiral block. I honestly would have been more surprised if they HADN’T made it a mythic.

Again, I’m not saying that Damnation should be mythic, because it doesn’t really need to be. I’m just saying that it’s not a surprising slap in the face to see it at mythic, and it just seems like a really insignificant thing to get butthurt about to the point where you’re posting about it multiple times in multiple threads.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but I literally only care about getting foils of certain old border reprints. Anything else is gravy.

The tables I play at and regular playgroup will ban all this universe beyond crap straight away just like TWD. That will suck for people coming to the store with these cards in their deck not being able to get in a game.

Then it sounds like the problem there would stem from your playgroup, no?

Sounds to me like the problem is Wizards making a mockery of the game and creating the false impression that this garbage will actually be accepted by everyone, no?

You better believe there will be a LOT of playgroups who will want to have nothing to do with ‘universe beyond’.

"Sorry new guy, but you can't play with anyone here because we collectively decided to not accept those Warhammer cards that are in your deck. I know it's not fair to you, but Wizards forced us to gatekeep you out of our group, so really it's their fault that you can't play, not ours."

That's more or less what you sound like from my perspective. You're free to disallow anyone with those cards from playing games with you, but I'm free to think that your playgroup is being whiny and immature for doing so.

If this is real, which I personally doubt it is. I'm not too horrifically worried about Jin in edh. Pretty sure he will get banned like Lutri on the day he's spoiled.

first it’s not real with the sneak preview of the set

Did you just overlook the part where he said he doubts that it’s real or

These mystical archive cards are going to be quite cheap if you’re guaranteed to get one per pack, so I’m guessing that only a couple of them are going to be expensive chase cards while the rest will all be generic good cards that have already been reprinted into oblivion (like Swords to Plowshares).
But since they’ll be available in all supported languages now, I’m willing to bet that Russian foil versions will give people an extra premium version to chase.

Those Japanese cards look pretty sweet, though.

If these are real, the card draw one seems a little weird. I imagine it'd use different wording, because its current syntax makes me think you could cast a sorcery on your opponent's turn with it.

Yeah, and? It’s far from the first time that cards have been designed to let us cast sorceries on an opponent’s turn.

Here’s to hoping that these decks will have more universally good EDH cards like the Ikoria precons did, rather than the ZNR and KHM ones.

Arcanist in legacy was insane! Much stronger than snapcaster since it's repeatable and cast things for free! No surprise it's gone.

    this is not exactly true....
yes, the card is strong, but it's an engine, while Snapcaster is just a tool
snapcaster having flash is pretty crazy, as he transforms your entire graveyard into a toolbox at instant speed, while Arcanist must already be on the battlefield and needs to attack so he can cast something, you can actually see him coming.

that said, yes.... Arcanist is very, very strong.
T1: thoughtseize, take out the answer.
    T2: Arcanist
    T3: The Royal Scions

can very well take over tha game just like that, but I'm still not sure that this was so much stronger than other stuff that's already pretty unfair in legacy to warrant that ban.

Snapcaster can turn your graveyard into a toolbox at instant speed, but Arcanist can turn it into a toolbox for the rest of the game.

This is up to interpretation but we could be in for a ban shortly.

I saw this go off and I'm like are you ******* serious? That's not good on WOTC's image right now. Another set with a consecutive ban (potentially)?

Nothing an errata can't fix with just 3 words.

Too bad they try to avoid functional errata when possible. It would keep the red take on counterspell while avoiding the broken interaction, while with straight ban, the whole thing might be considered a failure.
Seriously, how didn't they catch it before release?

My guess is that they wanted to leave it open so that players could potentially abuse it to cheat out a big random thing, but they underestimated how quickly and consistently players could go off by streamlining the process.

But then people wouldn’t be more incentivized to buy many multiples of them? From a financial standpoint, why would they do that?

    Customer satisfaction.

WotC simply learned they can shave the balls of their customers and they will still buy into anything.

And people that do deserve what they get.

Anybody else will still complain, till they change something ... and if that doesnt happen, more will complain, just a matter of time.

Exactly. As long as people are going to buy huge quantities of basic land secret lairs, Wizards is going to keep making them. It doesn’t matter how much people whine on forums; the only voice Wizards cares to hear is the one that comes from people’s wallets.

If releasing a secret lair with only 1 of each basic land would encourage more people to buy many multiples of them, then why would they release a secret lair with 5 or 6 of each and risk cutting into their profits?

MAKE 5 TO 10 OF EACH BASIC FOR SECRET LAIRS! NOT 1 OF EACH!!
