2 Duress
This is invaluable against any type of control. If you expect a lot of control in your meta, up its count to 3. Also usable against mirror.
1 Rootborn Defenses
This is for Supreme Verdict and Bonfire of the Damned. If you expect a lot of decks running these cards, you may up its count to 2, but I won't suggest it as the deck has built-in resilience against sweepers.
Siding out: Garruk, Primal Hunter is suited for midrange/control matchups while Garruk Relentless is suited for aggro matchups.
Tweak the number of removals according to what do you read from opponent's deck.
If you're on the draw against aggro, side 1 Midnight Haunting/Lingering Souls out for additional removals. But if you're on the play, pack less removals for more aggressive start. Your ideal play should be Turn1 dork into Turn2 Lingering Souls/Midnight Haunting into Turn3 Intangible Virtue/Sorin/Garruk Relentless.
If you're not sure what to take out, take out Borderland Ranger. It's important game1 to smooth your curve, but it's certainly not more important than to improve your matchup.
Tweaking Sideboard:
If you expect a lot of Bant control/Planeswalkers, pack 1-2 Vraska the Unseen in your sideboard. The reason I avoid running Oblivion Ring is that your opponent must be packing enchantment hate against you.
I'm trying to replace 2 Rest in Peace with 1 Duress and 1 Deathrite Shaman. Not sure if it's good enough.
That is some great insight! Im running some Pithing Needle for PW and recently Izzet Staticaster. I could see Abrupt Decay in the SB to fight against said card as well..... what cards would you guys play against Peddlar/staticaster combo?
yes, you are right with all of the things you wrote down.
To clarify,
You announce that your moving into the attack phase, opponent says ok because he wants to see which creatures are going to tap to use Maze of Ith (can work without a tapped creature). So you tap your creatures, he chooses which creature to untap with maze. You then announce you KWR's target and tap your mana.
Not sure why he would rage quit if nothing wrong happened, just a sore loser.
Record in Cockatrice 2-1 (Matches, not rounds). I've found, out of those three games, that this deck has really fast mill but is susceptible to Deathrite Shaman. Does anyone have a way to counter that card in blue's arsenal?
Thats a tough call, early game (turn 1 really) he can cause problems but I can see bounce and countering him, im thinking Essence Scatter, Dissipate, or shooting him with Staff of Nin (thats really late though).
I added some more tournament results to the OP. I'm considering putting Ultimate Price in the board--we just cannot answer Hellrider and it eats us alive.
Agreed.
So I just played another FNM with a tweaked version of the first place deck from one of the GPs. I went 3-1-1 losing to........ Peddler/ Staticaster human reanimator deck and my draw was from G/W Human Wolves home brew. The G/W deck should've been cake but he top decked a Silverblade and he had a rancored champion with Sublime on the board with 5 creatures....yeah lucky crap right there.
Anyways, the other 3 matches I won against were 4 color control, a mirror match sorta (not running virtues) and a weird RDW home-brew featuring Hellriders and other things. Nothing really to boast about since those decks were ok.
Im really concerned about that peddler/ staticaster deck, we basically have no outs game 1 if you dont run any mainboard kill (o-ring, UP, Sever) and game 2 is slightly better. Really the problem is staticaster more so than peddler.
So yeah thats my report. Ill try to add as much experience to this thread as possible.
I learned that getting mana screwed and unlucky with draws sucks so much! My name was gfxcraig.
[QUOTE=robp;/comments/3445989]I made a version of the deck that I like quite a bit:
the questions I have, to whoever would like to answer and comment them, are:
- abrupt decay: how do you like? do you split them with O'Ring and Ultimate Price? If so, in which quantity?
- I play 2 Trostani main. I simply love them, in particular because they help in many match ups. Do you main her?
- at the top of the curve I have 1 Garruk PH, 1 Collective Blessing and 1 Armada wurm. I feel that if I reach 6 mana I win anyway, so I am not sure these 3 cards are needed. What do you have at the top?
I played a build last friday with 2 Abrupt Decay main and none of the other cards. It worked out pretty well against aggro and turn 1-3 mana dorks. Currently, I'm trying a build that doesnt have Abrupt Decay in the 75 at all so I cant really comment now about it.
Trostani I did main 2 last week. She's so good when she sticks. I only got to play her once out of 4 rounds. She's currently not in my build however.
My top curve is 1 Collective Blessing. How has that Armada Wurm been treating you?
I like Spectral Flight for blue pump even though all your guys have flying or evasion already.... if you had GoST in the build on the other hand I would include it in.
Sublime Angel is another card not on your considering list, she expensive though.
Anyways another suggestion would be to make this Bant enchant aggro, for rancors mainly.
Well I don't have any Tamiyo's right now or Terminus so what would you recommend in place of those. Supreme Verdict?
Well there is no going around Tamiyo, you either have her or you dont but thats not to say you shouldnt play the deck.
Supreme Verdict would be a good alternate for terminus, I would actually run a combination of the two (3 SV and 2 Terminus) but in your case I would do 3 SV since you have so much fog back up.
I would also consider Snapcaster Mage's if you can get them. So good with fog effects.
You need Tamiyo in this deck. Once she ultimates your chances of winning increase greatly versus aggro. Control might be a different story but with sphinx's revelation and Tamiyo emblem synergy thats hard to beat.
EDIT- I also second the motion of Otherworld Atlas. You draw threats and mill them, its a win win situation.
Is anyone running one of these with just G/w ? I am having more success with just these two colors and I have an AoS and Armada Wurm in for a Garruk -1 target and she finishes games for me.
Well the black adds more spot removal, so why would you want to keep it GW?
I think this deck needs Tamiyo. Once you ultimate her you are golden versus Aggro.
I played versus a deck like yours at a GPT. His mill was using Otherworld Atlas a very interesting choice because he was also drawing into threats and using Snapcaster Mage to off set the discard.
I dont really for see any land hate in gatecrash because the set needs to focus on the guilds. I do think Dragon's Maze will bring something to the table for land hate but dont hold your breath for something AMAZING with an efficient mana cost.
Im on the fence with 4 or 5 color decks. I love building them but playing them is a different story.
I personally love the card. I keep running CC wtih sublime angel or silverblade paladin in my head and thinking how brutal it would be, but I havent pulled the trigger yet.

Mill and flying route, Mindshrieker
Aggro, Faerie Impostor, Spectral Flight, Invisible Stalker.

I was thinking Knight of Infamy as well.
You could cut a geist, troll, and ultimate price for 3 knights. If anything It would make things a lot faster. A 4/4 Mangler on turn 3 isnt too bad.
Im on the fence with 4 or 5 color decks. I love building them but playing them is a different story.
Has anyone tried CC in a U/W aggro shell?
