Alrighty 24 lands and I'll post the other black cards in a minute ... How many cards should I have in order to make a better deck??? red has caught my eye with all of the spells but white has also cuz of some of the creatures ... What would be better, I've seen more red/black combos then White/black. Should I post both others white and black and the red???

I also can buy more cards tomorrow 2 since I need more creatures and 200ish of my cards are basic land :/ what would be wise to get??? Boosters or the core sadly there aren't many card stores that sell cards specifically

If you want to build a R/B deck you should look into buying the Rakdos Event deck. Its a prebuilt 60 card deck with a 15 card side board. Its cheap compared to the Golgari Event deck.

It has a good mix of red and black cards. Just some options to give you.

How would this work without the planeswalker

It would probably work like it normally does. Liliana doesnt really do anything for the deck except grab swamps and occasionally pumping/ killing a creature. The thing is he's only running one of her so the chances are of playing her are low.

Dr_death has a lot of nice suggestions. I would probably cut Liliana, guildmages, and jarad for more corpsejack menace and trolls or Champion of Lambholt (prime choice, makes your creatures unblockable if her power is high enough) / Primordial Hydra or things that come into play with +1/ +1 counters (Unleash mechanic and Undying mechanic).

Just a thought if you add white you could play Mikaeus, the Lunarch following a CJM for a 8/8.

    EDIT: You need RANCOR.

I was wondering why people play Vraska the Unseen. It used to be worth $20-30 and now for some reason it's only around $10. I'm guessing there aren't a lot of B/G decks out there and this is why Vraska is now worth around $10? It doesn't seem like a plansewalker that should have ever been $30. I think Vraska is pretty good and can also be dealt with fairly easily. Are you going to first use the +1 ability or are you going to use the -3 ability to kill off one your opponents planeswalkers?

I really like Vraska. On an empty board or if I have creatures to protect her ill +1 her. If there is something I cant deal with toughness greater than mutilate range or I dont have a kill spell in my hand or planeswalkers ill -3 off the bat!

EDIT- A card we do have access to for PW is Bramblecrush. It works, it always catches people off guard. It also does some LDing when I see a utility land or Cavern.

do you side it out against aggro? It seems like it could be a death trap.

Well I know I do when I face aggro. But Thragtusk really helps that situation out. If you do side it out you still have GPH to refill your hand.

[CENTER]Taskmasters dont die to each other

This is me being nit picky but they do die to each other if you have more than one out on the battlefield.

I do agree with Dreadbore being main decked not sure about cutting mortars for them though. Maybe tribute, but that deals with geist. Possibly negate, but I do like it as a surprise for some reason.

Did you consider Liliana of the Veil? She seems like a house in the build. To off set her +1 you could run veilborn ghoul. Seems kind of novel but ehh....

Well guys, played at GP San Antonio today. Started the day off well then ended up sucking towards the end. I did a disappointing 4-5. :(:(

The best part of the day is when Clint Cearley signed my Sever the Bloodlines, Curse of Death's Hold, Intangible Virtues, and Syncopates. He's a really nice guy.

Heres the deck list I ran.

So the deck preformed really well against Jund and Zombies. I couldnt draw any answers to U/W Flash, G/W Humans, 4 color Frites, Grixis Control and some random bant jank (was interesting to say the least, I didnt really know how to sideboard).

If there were any changes to the deck I probably would want to run a little more spot removal in the form of murder or Tribute to Hunger. I like Ultimate price but it just doesnt cut it when I see Olivias' and Huntmasters. Also a little more something versus Planeswalkers.

The card I'm most happy with was underworld connections. It's so good in conjunction with Thragtusk. Its basically draw 5 cards.

Liliana of the Veil, I dont doubt her power but sometimes really dont want to discard a card. I think she's ehhhh.

For now this deck is on the fence/ chopping block.

Is there a reason you are running Thragtusk over something like Vorapede? I would rather not spend $20 on a card right now and like Vorapede just fine. Thragtusk looks like a better card because he has only 1 green mana in his casting cost. Yes he does gain you life but he is also Splashable. There seems to be a lot of cards that require double mana to be played. I was reading an early post where someone suggested not playing Vorapede because they were playing Mutilate and Sever the Bloodline. I would still play Vorapede but I wouldn't want to play with more 2 in my deck. I was also thinking of playing Rancor. I don't know if people think this card is useful in this type of deck.

Well honestly I dont have Vorapede's thats why im not running them. Smile

I actually have been giving it some thought and I really would like to run maybe a split between Thragtusk and Vorapede (if i can pick some up).

I really like how how hard Vorapede hits but Thragtusk does so much in the life gain department its ridiculous. You also get the token if he gets Severed not like Vorapede. So basically Thragtusk is pure value. Still would like to try Vorapede out though.

I do like rancor late game it probably would be super awesome to bust through some damage. Thats why i put in a rogue's passage for those long games or to sneak in an assassin token from Vraska.

What does you creature base look like? Are you going for more of a control build or aggro build? I would run 4x Vampire Nighthawk, 4x Deadbridge Goliath, and at least 2x Deathrite Shaman. I'm not sure if you should be running 4x Vorapede vs. only 2. Vorapede costs 3 green mana which seems really expensive and makes me wonder if only playing 2 is better. I was thinking also possibly running 2x Wolfir Silverheart and 2x Bloodgift Demon. I would running around 14-16 creatures. Is there need for any cards in this deck like farseek, mulch or arbor elf?

I've considered changing my line up to add either silverheart or bloodgift demon but havent pulled the trigger, help? This is my creature base currently:

    4 Deathrite Shaman
    4 Thragtusk
    4 Deadbridge Goliath
    3 Vampire Nighthawk

About ramp, it was in this thread that I read about not including ramp because we're playing a control deck. Im trying it and I kind of agree to it. Im not in a real hurry to slap down threats but I'd like consistent land drops. So maybe 4 Farseek wouldnt be so bad, but the list (mine at least) is really tight.

  • posted a message on u/w/g mill deck could it work competitive
UWG MILL is feasible and does own.... I played versus one at my LGS two weeks ago.

Its basically a fog deck, he ran otherworld atlas for mill and Tamiyo for lockdown and hitting her ultimate for infinite fogs. Stopped aggro dead in their tracks.

    AGREED.

Anyways, I always liked Palisade Giant + Ghostly Possesion for a new Pariah lock.

So I guys been trolling for a while now trying to figure out what kind of midrange style I like. I was just playing 4 color Frites last week and it just frustrated me to no end with the mana base. So it was REALLY REALLY nice to play this deck and not get mana screwed.

Anyways I just finished FNM and went 3-1 with this build....

Side board was kind of thrown together last minute. The Planeswalker ratio is what I have in my collection. Garruk Relentless was a star and so was Vraska. Never really played Liliana or GPH.

Deadbridge Goliath- STAR PLAYER. Nobody see's this guy coming turn 4 followed by Thragtusk turn 5.

    Golgari Charm- Mini Star PLAYER

**Fair warning Im REALLY terrible at sideboarding and I honestly dont remember what I switched out for during the games other than the obvious choices.

    Matchups
    Round 1- B/U Zombies
    Game 1
This deck is still alive!? Anyways, game one was pretty smooth. Turns 1-3 was me killing zombies and blood artists. Turn 4 dropped a Garruk Relentless flipped him and took over with the deathtouch wolf tokens and searching for threats.

    Game 2
Same thing, was able to play Vraska but at that point it was a win more. Rode Garruk and Deadbridge Goliath + Rogue's Passage all the way home.

    Round 2- 4 color Junk/Good stuff Control????
    Game 1
This game went a little longer than expected. He turn 3 played Dread Mangler and got his beats in for about 3 turns. I Severed it so he wasnt able to scavenge and followed with a Thragtusk, stabilized, then played Garruk. Game ended a couple of turns after that.

    Game 2
He never got a real good start he evolving wild twice. I on the other hand T1-Shaman, T2- nothing, T3- Ate a E-wild from Shaman to cast Goliath, then T4- Shaman ate wild and I played Thragtusk. He couldnt recover with 10 Power on the board.

    Round 3- U/W Control
    Game 1
This game went pretty quick I started to lay down threats in the form of Vampire Nighthawk followed by a Garruk making wolf tokens. He Detention Sphere Garruk. I played Vraska next turn. I was able to pop her two turns later and he scooped the next turn.

    Game 2
This game was a little longer than the first game. Turn 1 Shaman, really put a monkey wrench in his life. Every threat I tried to play he counter and Shaman ate it. We did this for about 3-5 turns till I played Vraska and upped her in two turns being able to pop her for the kill tokens. He thought he had the trump card with Supreme Verdict and I said no with Golgari Charm. He scooped accordingly.

    Round 4- U/W Heavy Control
    Game 1
I was trying to lay threats down through the whole game. He dissipates, Essence Scatters, and syncopates a lot of creatures. If I managed to stick a creature he would unsummon it or Azorious charm it. I did manage to sneak in a Deathrite Shaman getting him down to single digits but Runechanter's Pike with Restoration Angel was too much. Didnt see a single sever or ultimate price.

    Game 2
    See above.

So that was it. Like i mentioned before I have a hard time Sideboarding in, but its not rocket science. If I needed more control I would side in AoB if against creatures, then the creature kill cards.

I played last night and I Sb'ed Slaughter Games versus combo (EPEX). The thing is I never got it off since I Mulched it away. :/ I did however Duress turn 1 and was able to get an EPEX which won me the game basically. So Im still not sure how I feel about it. Once you play game one you already know whether you need to SB it in or if you can handle game 2 without it.

Cant put my two cents in for the second question cause I didnt play against any last night.
