For a while I removed Consecrated Sphinx from my list due it getting kill on sight, cloned or even worse stolen to often and resulting in ridiculous games. I replaced it with Sphinx of Uthuun and had good results, never felt like I had to worry about it as most people ignored it. Overall I felt like I was missing Consecrated due to just how powerful it is in the right situation like you just had in that game, so hes back in the deck. guess I'm just saying Sphinx of Uthuun is a fine replacement that fits with the theme of the deck if your getting annoyed with consecrated sphinx. Nice game reports by the way, I love reading about the deck in action.

Your 14 cards away from playing the king of the hate bears, Gaddock Teeg. It would shut down a lot of your mass removal you currently run but there are a couple cards I can think of that would still work with him. for sweepers toxic deluge and oblivion stone. Also being in black its hard to justify not running demonic tutor and vampiric tutor.

Karona, False God will work well as a five color tribal general. I was actually messing around with this idea yesterday and this is the list I came up with.

And oddly, time spiral has won me a few games. A couple times I've had a huge GY and getting to shuffle it in and draw a fresh 7 has draw me into gas. Definitely a good card that hardly ever gets countered since most players like the benefit of it as well. Also helps if you're in top deck mode, or sitting there with a hand full of land.

Somewhat along the same lines as Time spiral I've been thinking of including Ill-gotten gains in my deck. There aren't many options in the deck that return cards from the graveyard to hand right now. It can cause your opponents to discard their hands down to 3, granted its their best three out of hand and graveyard. So that gets me thinking that currently we run a good amount of graveyard hate with leyline of the void being the all star when paired with Ill-gotten gains. I'm just thinking of of the perfect situation of having leyline out since turn one, then you cast gains and leave them with no hands while I have my best three cards. What do you guys think?

two easy upgrades for your deck would be ranger's path to skyshroud claim and time of need to eladamri's call

This is the first time I've seen this post and I gotta say I really enjoyed reading it. I currently have jhoria built but it felt like it was a little sloppy and this read has given me some great ideas. I would look forward to either an update or an overhaul, you did a great job the first time through so I'd bet if you rebooted it would be great as well.

    1. What is (in your opinion) the best wrath for 1 v 1? I'm not even sure if I want a wrath in my list.

I think it would be supreme verdict, in 1v1 counterspells are everywhere and this insures the wrath to actually happen.

Made the swap of Wargate for sphinx's revelation. I might miss the ability to tutor Venser the sojourner onto the battlefield but that has only happened once or twice. I'm looking forward to having another draw spell and a little life gain doesn't hurt.

I swapped out alchemist's refuge a while back for high market. It hasn't been a large rolepayer so I'm still trying to find the right card for this spot. I like the idea of running gaea's cradle but it can be dead quite often. On top of that I don't run avenger of zendikar or other ways to put lots of creatures into play quickly.

I don't own a capture of jingzhou so I've been running mirari's wake in its place. My playgroup for the most part plays battlecruiser magic still so Wake still is very strong.

Venser, shaper savant has been kinda meh in this deck for me so I changed it to rite of replication a couple months back. It can backfire but overall its a very strong card. Well one time I kicked it targeting Kokusho and my buddy responded with a Reverberate so I got 30 to the dome and killed before mine resolved haha. Other than that time its been an all star.

Nice list. But I have some questions.

Fact or fiction? Doesn't seem good in a stax deck. You're just going to get you GY exiled playing this and really not draw gas since stax decks work on slow burn and not explosive plays, so whatever you do end up getting isn't going to be relivant most of time.

I'd swap it for lim-dul's vault

Also, jace? Again, mini fact of fiction is bad, and his +1 is meh unless you have humility out.

And finally, where's muta vault and thespians stage!? Both get there more so then not.

Hi Phil thanks for the response.

Fact or fiction is my favorite draw spell in EDH, I like watching my friends really have to think about their choices. The very rare occasion of a 5-0 split when one opponent is out of control is always nice. My friends currently don't run much graveyard hate which is no excuse for poor choices in deck building but its too good to pass up right now. I'll watch from now on how the cards that go to the graveyard affect the rest of my game.

I've never have been a fan of the card disadvantage that lim-dul's vault brings to the table. It almost acts like a tutor, and I can see how in our decks that one specific card for the situation is more important than drawing 1-5 random ones from FOF. I think if I add it right now I'd probably not put it in for FOF spot but rather another card.

Jace, architect of thought was definantly included because of the interaction between it and humility. It is pretty weak without humility out and can see cutting this planeswalker for blind obdeience which I've been trying to fit in anyways.

I don't own a mutavault but I could see picking one up I'm just curious what makes this better than say a mishra's factory or another man land? Do you see a lot of slivers or other blanket effects for creatures? It is cheap to activate into a creature which is a nice selling point.

Thespian stage is nice, I can see copying manlands or acting as legendary land removal. I'll look through my list and find a spot.

I'm also interested in running Time Spiral, Sword of War and Peace, and Smokestack. I'll try and find room for these as well as thespian stage, blind obdeience and lim dul's vault.

Sunforger has been a dud in this deck for me. I never feel compelled to grab it when I tutor for an equipment. Also the amount of mana you need to sink into it to get the value out of it seems high and usually I'd rather to just play something else from my hand. I wanted to know how often everyone grabs this card, and how exactly is it best utilized.

you can run darksteel plate over shield of kaldra.
    Terminate is better than murder.
You would probably find darksteel ingot to be helpful if your mana rocks get destroyed often.

I find myself in a weird predicament when it comes to posting this deck list. I love to win and therefore build competitive decks that do just that. Lately my playgroup has been getting annoyed in the manner in which I've been winning due to playing mass land destruction. They are by no means casual but that kind of crossed the line for most of them. They have requested that I build a more casual and fun deck. Enter Olivia Voldaren, I've wanted to play this bad ass as my general since it was printed and now I have a golden opportunity. So here it goes, lets build a bad deck.

    Goals of the deck:
    1. Build a fun casual deck that my friends will enjoy playing against.
    2. Have a strong tribal theme.
    3. No mass land destruction.
    4. Can win in a fair environment(no combo/mass LD) aka something that I will enjoy playing.

So with this initial build it looks like its still too competitive.
What cards would make this deck more fun?
Which cards in the list are ones that people generally hate to see played?

    Considered Cards:

This is going to ruffle some feathers, but I must say that losing to a stax deck that runs six hundred dollars of proxies would put me off a bit. Part of the challenge of stax is making sub-optimal cards really sing but changing the nature of the game. Adding the super-stax cards right off the bat feels odd. That said, you may own a Tabernacle and a Moat. In which case I respectfully retract my statement.

haha ya I own them. no problemo, no proxies in that list. Its actually the reason I wanted to build a hardcore stax deck after having a Grand Arbiter deck together for the last 2 years. Pillowfort control felt like it was missing out on the power of resource denial instead of just taxing.

That being said how'd I do lol? I'm sure there is some sub-optimal cards

wasteland // strip mine - lol ironic considering wasteland is $30.00 and Strip Mine is like $3.00. Still.... not really an issue.

I know right I should sell my playset and just pick up strip mines. They are left over from my legacy merfolk deck.

Wrecking Ogre - uncounterable and its a lethal buff on Aurelia in one set of attacks without any other buffs. Personally I like this guy more than silverblade paladin due to the fact that the damage output is just a lot better and its uncounterable which is definitely something. Another side note, he works really well to bloodrush on a creature with Sword of Light and Shadow as you can pick him and a buddy back up.

Holy crap this looks like a fun card and I totally brushed it off without thinking of the pump application to Aurelia.

Hey guys, so this is what I wound up with for a list. How did I do? It has a mismatch of cards from phil's, bacon's and styx's lists. Plus a couple of cards of my own that I felt deserved a shot. I need to get in more playtesting with it but its a slow process because my friends don't like seeing more than once a night lol. thanks -Az
