On the topic of Maelstrom Wanderer, it's pretty simple. Ramp, cascade, swing, win. If the cascade hits something like Plasm Capture, counter your own general and recast him for just 2 next turn. Also, Food Chain the big guy.

So I've been toying with the idea of making a EDH deck around Maelstrom Wanderer, and I stumble upon the fact that our local EDH mastermind *cough*rat*cough* has a deck built around that cool guy. I'm wondering if you have a little write up on the deck? I remember you used to have explanations for some of your decks (at least I think), and I wouldn't mind taking a gander at it. He just seems like a fun guy to toy around with, plus I like me those colors I'm such a noob when it comes to EDH though so this will be a challenge.
Also I lost a RTR sealed this week to a guy who pulled 3 voices in his pool (from the 2 gatecrash packs, and 1 also had a foil cause why not right). It was one of the more hilarious matches of magic I've played in a while, not to mention he also had Angel of Serenity which makes it so it is actually just impossible to completely get rid of the voices. was fun :-p
Thinking about it, this thread has slowed down considerably.
Don't worry, I'll be back soon to fill the thread up with my mindless jibber jabber I pass off as magic related. Just been so busy with work, taking a week to go home to help the family out, and all around being a senior at my university.
I've also been routing out a new run for FFX... which is a lot of thinking power I would normally delegate to magic. But with HD coming out and the possibility of optional scene skips, it could take OVER AN HOUR off the the speed run. The current world record is 10:32:07, which is single segment, so that time off would be HUGE. Funny thing is the same guy holds the record for segmented as well.
My personal record is about 13 hours but i wasn't actively routing, just wanted to play the game fast one day. With me actually trying i could see getting 10:30 which would be awesome, but right now my goal is to simply break 11 hours and 30 minutes.
I've also been working on segmented (basically saving and trying parts over and over again until it is PERFECT) which could be fun, but most people do RTA (real time attack) now.
Anyway, that is an update on me... because i'm sure you all were wondering... <3
And it arrived today. Apparently SCG has these on their buy list at $350 a box...
To be fair, it is a cool box.
Man those are so cool. I wouldn't pay an extraordinary amount for them however, but they would look neat in my collection.
So... It looks like I'll be playing my first standard tournament this Friday since over a year ago? Give or take. I've been racking up store credit there so I can essentially play for free whenever I want. Mostly limited and Modern, but if I actually like the standard there I might continue to do that.
The last 5 tournaments I've gone to, if there were 50+ people, I've gotten top 8, if there were less than that, I've gotten top 4. On a bit of a streak

Fun fact, in round 6 I had to beat Kalonian Hydra AND Vastwood Hydra on a Mull to 5 to make top 16. Was a stressful game to say the least... my opponent was less than polite when he lost :/
Made top 8 and lost in the top 4 battle to a very good player. Good games were had and laughs were shared!
Also picked up a 4th Lili of the Veil and a NM Plateau, so it was a good day all around.
On to my half-wit dreams to ever play standard again... I wanna build B/R Crypt Ghast while we still have Devil's Play and Mutilate. I'll post a list for people to tell me how bad I am at brewing in a couple days I think
@ The Last Of Us. I'm enjoying it. IT isn't the game of the gods people seemed to make it out to be, but I do like it. Put about 5 or so hours into it and I'm not bored yet (which is actually a bit odd for me)
Yea so I retract this statement. IT IS THE GAME OF THE GODS! I very highly recommend stealing a friend's PS3 and playing through this game. I was only about 6 hours into it when I said that, and upon beating the game tonight... just... JUST PLAY IT. AGHGHGHG My emotions are so... everywhere
The prices of fetches are skyrocketing right now... Thank god I have mine... but still a couple of my friends need them for modern and are absolutly crying right now :/

Sorry again for my absence, I'd some exams this last week and I wasn't able to be online (and I wasn't really successful on them so I guess I should've spent more time here...).
As for the format, I'd say Pauper as I never really played the format that much but it interests me. A close second would be EDH but I'm still getting the hang of it. As for E3 and console games in general, I was actually really saddened to see the fluke XboxOne is. Now, I never owned a Xbox but I played 360 quite a bit with my roommates and it was cool but, really, I've a hard time seeing how the guys in charge of the design could have so many "brilliant" ideas. As it is, I'll probably stick with my PS3 and PC as I didn't dig PS4 either. Have anyone played The Last of Us? Is it any good? I am looking into options as my Winter holidays are coming (yeah, I live on the south half of the globe ).
I'm considering going back to WoW (again) but I have mixed feelings about it.
Did you guys had any luck in MM drafts? I ended up not playing the one on my LGS but the packs were really poor of Modern goodies, or so I heard.

That's quite interesting. Why MATLAB over an open source alternative? That sounds cool and I really enjoy coding in Python. Let me know the reference whenever the publication is complete Would love to read it. And, really, that law seems outdated to say the least; it's quite easy to fake a bad quality photo and that seems quite unreasonable. A professor I know works on a similar field, trying to analyze the (pixel) entropy of different kinds of image quality. He uses it mostly to analyze crystallization and fluid mechanics but it's remarkably close to what you do, I think. Personally, I use different techniques to gain more insight in clot formation and reepithelization dynamics.

I concur. Especially since the past year or twos contests have gone downhill in my opinion.
We've always been on the fence with those. Do we want multiple ones through out the year, or do we just want one at the very end of the year. I remember one time we discussed doing 2/year, one in summer, one in winter. We are getting close to the time I figured we could do a summer one. Shall we discuss this?

Excited for the new Final Fantasy, and excited for plants vs. zombies 2. VERY interested to see what becomes unearthed today. I'm hoping for some FFX HD info but I'm not counting on it :/

First pack had Fiendslayer Paladin for rare, Serra Angel, and Air Servant (foil) for uncommon, and Master of Diversion at common. 2nd pack had Domestication, rode blue white fliers to top 8. one of the better sealed pools I've had in a bit. Also had a Mutavault in there. Had to bench Shivan Dragon and double Chandra's Outrage which was hard to do.
