I know I'm kind of late but I thought this was a great article. Virtually all I play is casual multiplayer magic so I'll definitely be reading your other articles!
Have Power Conduit out and remove a counter off him to transform him immediately. Add some creatures with persist that not only go well with power conduit but also with the -1 ability of the transformed Garruk and you have yourselves a pretty cool casual deck.
I like your first iteration of Unrest, as someone mentioned earlier it feels like a mechanic that should exist. Maybe change it so it comes back into play tapped like Reassembling Skeleton? The possess mechanic just seems a little qurerky to me :/
Also some of the mythic cards you made are indestructible and then have a trigger when the creature dies...so how exactly is it going to die other than by it being sacrificed? Seems very narrow way of having the ability trigger.
I would recommend the Gravelord quest over the Fleshbag's, imo. Flashbag isn't really as great as it used to be, since it's easily killed via creatures anyways. Use Gatekeeper of Malakir instead. Will cost the same amount of mana, just all black, plus you don't lose a creature, and you kill theirs, plus get a 2/2 over a 3/1.
True. Though Gatekeeper isn't a Zombie so he doesn't get the +1/+1 benefit of Cemetery Reaper or Death Baron.
I'm actually thinking of scratching the "Unearthed" theme and making it a Mono-Black Zombie deck. Keeping all the unearthed black creatures.
You guys have any links to good Mono Black Zombie decks? Standard of course, tried to google but it mostly came up with non-standard decks.
Anyways, as for this deck here, don't use the felshbag. It's good control, and you'll get an unearthed creature in your graveyard... But if you want to play the creatures outright, why get rid of them if you don't have to? I'd say just put some mass removal spells in there like I stated before, that way you get rid of all or none.
Well I was thinking I would play fleshbag on my second main and sacrifice an Unearthed creature, seeing as to how it's going to be removed from play anyways. I wouldn't lose anything and my opponent would have to sacrifice a creature. Plus a 3/1 is not too shabby.
Well the exhumed deck in my signature with it's current 56-2 record is pretty outstanding for an Unearth deck. Regardless, the Inquiry is good.. But it's a 4-time shot for getting the right thing in your graveyard; the crab's usually stay out in play.
And as for putting them in play, getting them killed, and replaying them graveyarded... It's interesting, and might work for an aggro R/B, but you're going to need some decent kill cards. You have 8, but I would throw in some board cleaners aswell, for mass 2 damage, or mass -2/-2, which kills most aggro/jund/RDW decks.
Yeah I started noticing this too when I did some test games against my White Zederick Deck. I just couldn't deal enough damage fast enough. Didn't win a single game :/
Maybe it's because I wasn't able to get some of the cards I wanted.
No Blightning, Shambling Remains, or Dragonskull Summit.
I'll add some Infest see if it improves. I think I need some more damage in there so I'm gonna try and see if I can get some Cemetery Reaper and Death Baron, seeing as to how most of my creatures are Zombies.
Do you guys think I should add Fleshbag Marauder for some creature control?
22 lands at least. You NEED blue in there for Hedron Crab so you can mill yourself some creatures.
Hmmm. I was going to say that that's what Burning Inquiry is for but upon reading the card more carefully it states that you discard 3 cards at random. My initial thought was that you got to choose which cards to discard. Still, it seems better than Hedron since you draw 3 cards and there's a chance you might mess up your opponent when he discards 3 whilst you can still make use of some of your discarded thanks to the Unearth ability.
Though I think the point of an Unearth deck is not to get Creatures discarded and then played, but rather that after you play them and they are destroyed, you can play them again from your graveyard.
Hello. Just thought I'd get on the forums and see if any of you have any suggestions on how to improve this Unearth deck I've been meaning to build. Feel free to tell me what will work and what won't.
I really just want to keep it simple and run a Black/Red deck since I can just throw out my old cinder deck and add these cards.
Well it's not Standard but there's Necromancer's Covenant

Yeah I was thinking of splashing blue for that card. It would work great.
Sucks that I just traded that card to my friend. I'm punching myself in the face right now

Would also count towards Quest for the Gravelord if I were to have it in play.

Thank you for your time.
