Feb 5, 2014unisom posted a message on Launch Giveaway!I'd have to say my favorite card is Academy Rector. She is a bomb in Commander. I usually grab Omniscience once I have a massive draw spell or combo that enables me to abuse Omni. Unfortunately, I missed her debut as I have only been playing for about 6 years now. I am Johnny/Spike. When they first spoiled info about Theros being an enchantment oriented block I secretly hoped that they would reprint her. No such luck yet.Posted in: Announcements

Improvise is an amazing mechanic. Try it out. Feed back greatly appreciated.
Me too. At first it was an msvcp140.dll issue that i have since resolved but not connection is timing out on both Cockatrice and woogerworks.com
Trinket Mage offers a bevy of support after board as well. Thing's like Pithing Needle, Relic of Progenitus, Scrabbling Claws, Grafdigger's Cage, or even a Brittle Effigy. My personal favorite is Basilisk Collar. It's a silver bullet against creature decks and provides a cushion against burn.
The upside this package contains is that the combo no longer features a graveyard requirement. This makes your opp sideboard grave hate dead cards if they think you're running the original combo.
The downside is losing some sweet, sweet, infinite life gain and some classic utility creatures like Tidehollow Sculler but there is still a silver lining. Meddling Mage is now an option along with Spell Queller, Vendilion Clique, and Kira,Great Glass-Spinner. The mana base plus vial provide plenty of fixing.
I forgot to mention a few other insane tutor targets for Trinket Mage: Engineered Explosives, Chimeric Mass, and Aether Spellbomb.
Let me just say that Contraband Kingpin has given me stellar performances. Tool box blocker with lifelink on a 1/4 that scryes every time an artifact enters that battlefield is just nuts in this deck. He's gotten me out of many sticky situations.

The. Demon. Is. Awesome. People don't suspect it after board much less be able to handle it outside of control decks but I don't think you bring him in there. He can kill a lot of aggro. And often does. I even got to cast him once on turn 2. I won that game. I wish I could fit more Statuaries in there but the list is pretty tight. Improvise is a really strong mechanic and I think black is the best compliment. Battle at the Bridge has saved my bacon several times. I've never found myself looking at my hand and wishing that card were something else. Extra points for a Reservoir on the field. If I can kill an Ulamog with it and gain that much life I'm in. The life buffer helps me stabilize as well against those pesky aggro decks that just wanna kick dudes sideways. Tentacles is a catch all with an upside. Less appealing now that Fatal Push exists but we can't have it all, I suppose. Disallow is great for planeswalkers! If they manage to stick one you can interfere with their activations. Goodbye ultimate whatever doesn't matter cause nope! Hilarious against the mirror and other combo decks and combined with Hope, Rebuke, and Transgress it can withstand a control deck. I'll continuously tweak the list to see what best suits the meta as it settles. Can't wait to see what develops.
1: NML is a 1/1 that can be dealt with easily by removal so trying to equip/attach the pieces to it become more opportunities for a response.
2: You have to wait until your next turn because of summoning sickness. That means the longer he sits on the board the longer he becomes a target and more cards against it become relevant. Dreadbore, Orzhov Pontiff, and Liliana, the Last Hope for example.
But there's a light at the end of the tunnel and Open the Armory is that light. It can tutor for two of the three parts to the combo. It can also tutor for ways to protect that pesky 1/1 if'n you already have the combo in hand. Swiftfoot Boots seems like a good card to me because it can address the issues that plague this combo. There are other cards available as well but I think Swiftfoot is the best option for that. Honorable mention to Eel Umbra. It can also fetch some soft aura removal like Pacifism or Encase in Ice.
OtA can tutor other things as well. Sword of the Meek combo could fit in nicely as a backup plan. Nothing heavy. Maybe two Thopter Foundry and one SotM. Can fill a board for blockers and gains you life per activation. Hilarious stabilizer against burn decks or, to a lesser extant, aggro beats. Might even save your bacon from getting burnt by an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn annihilation trigger.
Anyway... I was just seeing if anybody would be interested in brewing a list using the combo. Thanks.
And, yes, before anybody says otherwise, lines of play matter. Sometimes you just get beat no matter how well you prepare or the amount of "silver bullets" you chamber in your board. They can possibly bate the counter, or hit with hand disruption and then combo off. You might have had to mull to 5 on the play game 2. You could have boarded too heavily against the combo and left yourself open to alternative lines of play like the Gifts Ungiven package or Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas making 5/5's even though several cards I've already named overlap into preventing these lines like Rest in Peace or Pithing Needle. But this should already be taken into consideration and anticipated after board. To assume otherwise is bad magic and has no place here.
Your third instruction says to put bfz.xml into customsets. Did you mean ogw.xml instead because it isn't working?
I run 1 Dispel, 2 Negate, and 3 Duress in the board for mid-range to late game decks. I also run 3 Silumgar's Scorn, 3 Scatter to the Winds, and 2 Ojutai's Command main so I really haven't had much of a problem but I've only played against dark jeskai 2 times but went 2-0 both times.
