Zazdor posted a message on Opinion of the SecretistFor as short as it is, it's worth the read. As others have said, it flows better than Alara Unbroken. It's not high-quality literature, but it's "good." I didn't have the urge to put it down and never pick it up again. Beyer balanced character screentime rather well, explored the guilds, and told the story he needed to tell. The writing doesn't pull you in as well as some other novels, but for what it is, I would recommended reading The Secretist.Posted in: Magic Storyline -

Poring posted a message on If you had the powers of Superman...Posted in: Talk and EntertainmentQuote from Captain_Morgan2. In the DC universe, there's all sorts of different storylines such as the Russian version of Superman which has a different origin story.
Oh yeah, forgot about Red Son, or even Son of Darkseid and Speeding Bullets Superman. If we're going by the "nurture" argument for his goodness, then everyone in this thread is pretty much going to do what they want, and I believe that will inevitably end in insanity for the average person from having all that power.
Quote from PanchoPonceNI wouldn't want to have a "very realistic, nit-picking into details" conversation of this. Try to keep it simple: you are Superman-powerful (let's say as powerful as the newest movie or Justice League cartoon series) and you get no specific inherent or special weaknesses (yes, you would have sex just fine if you want). If you think you would end up being despot, then crazy or evil, that's an answer for my question.
So we get all the powers of a "realistic" version of Superman without the drawbacks?
Sweet!
As for what I would personally do after acquiring his powers...
Well to be honest, I'd be stumped.
Since I don't want to go insane from using it for my personal ends, I'd probably go online on a forum like this one and make an anonymous thread asking regular people what they would hypothetically do with Superman's powers. Then I would take their best suggestions, note down what I would probably have to watch out for, and then decide on what to do with them from there.

Bread Connoisseur posted a message on Shocks for fetches?Posted in: Market Street CaféQuote from Wraith223A game?
I don't see a price drop since everyone wants 4 of each. As long as there is no reprint, there will be no price drops.
True, however shocks are better investments than fetches at the moment because fetches aren't really going to rise more than the shocks will rise come theros. They may rise more come modern PTQ season, but the plan should be this:
Trade fetches for lots of shocklands now. When innistrad rotates and the only good dual lands are shocklands + some new set of lands that will probably be worse than shocklands from M14 maybe or theros itself, the shocks double in value. You then trade the shocklands back for zendikar fetches at roughly the same value they're at right now. Come modern PTQ season the zendikar fetches jump in value due to players needing them for modern.
TL;DR - Buy low sell high or in this case trade for the underpriced cards that go up then rinse and repeat. -

Just look at this from the perspective of someone who answers rules questions regularly. You click on a thread asking about Torpor Orb, see that it's already been answered 100% correctly, and you leave. That's it.
I guarantee this happens at least a dozen times with every question. That's why you don't need to be concerned about the legitimacy of a single answer - because that answer has already been checked by the dozen others trolling the rules section. They've got it covered. You really don't need to ask for confirmation at all because if the first post is ever wrong, it will be corrected, usually by multiple people and usually within a matter of minutes.

Maybe I'm the worst parent ever, but I happily let kids hurt themselves doing stupid stuff. I do my best to explain what the risks are, but if they still choose to jump their bike off a four foot wall (and end up going over the handlebars and smashing their face into the ground), all the power to 'em! I'll be nearby with a bandaid ready.
