Hey, I just recently decided to get back into standard and haven't played since RtR came out. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of the cards, but I know I enjoyed a BG ramp Eldrazi deck during Zendikar. I pulled an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and would like to build something fun. However, I've been having a difficult time finding possible deck lists from the Shadows rotation (every thing is R/G). Is there anyone out there who might have some suggestions?
Any decklist would be a good starting point. However, I would like to avoid too many $10+ cards. Although, I will probably pick up a second Ulamog.
Any help would be great, as I'm planning on ordering the cards for me an my son to try to play this weekend.
It's been a while since I played (Return to Ravnica) and I would like some help making the Ultimate Sacrifice deck Standard legal and decent. The deck looks like fun, but I'm not sure how it will hold up by taking out cards that have rotated. While I'm posting in the budget forum, I don't mind suggestions of higher end cards. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Blue/Black (Dimir) isn't available as an intro pack yet. It will be released with Gatecrash. Quickest way to get in is to buy an event deck and then slowly modify with a few singles. Although none of them are in the colors you like. You get the options of G/W, G/B, or two Red burn variants.
If you want to go the intro route M13 Talrand or RTR Azorius Advance. These come with two boosters to give you some options and trade bait. Buying singles is usually cheaper than buying packs, but not as fun.
so im curious, with all the spells in your deck and only 3 having flashback, how did the Deathrite Shaman not do anything for you? did you just not have the mana open? My experience with the shaman has been nothing but good, but i also had it in a G/B rock artist. Now its transferred to the binder until i get bored to build a deck with it. lol
Well, I was playing it against Naya ramp and I was in need of chump blockers before I could stabalize. Lotleth Troll might not be bad because of the regen, but Pillar is pretty prevalent in my meta. I need to play the deck a little more and probably against someone a little more experienced than my son:rolleyes:
I sleeved this up sticking with just BUG and it was pretty fun to play. With more swamps (read Watery Grave) for Mutilate, I think it may be fairly solid. It's not as strong as Esper or Bant, but I enjoyed playing it. I only tested against my son playing Naya, though.
Please elaborate.
What makes you think that this is better than Unburial Rites?
Or Rise from the Grave, if you don't want to splash White, but why would you not except for not having the lands. Run Arbor Elf and Farseek to ramp and Grisly Salvage to get Griselbrand in the Graveyard. Just be ready for the Graveyard hate, which Green can.
Looks similar to what I want to build. Did you know that you have 61 cards listed? You could drop a Swamp to get to 60. Here's what I'm looking to build when I get another Vraska.
Obviously I don't think we are ready to move past it since Texas was intentionally trying to disenfranchise mexican-americans. I think the 14th Amendment will allow the act to stand since it can be easily pointed out that minorities will suffer more from the new law.
Living in Texas, I believe this is a bit of a stretch. The Texas law, while being challenged by the Department of Justice, is similar to laws of other states that had passed the litmus test in the courts. People were provided plenty of notice that they would need a picture ID to vote, ID cards are offered free of charge through the state, and the elderly are provided transportation to the DPS (DMV for most of you) to get an ID card.
The problem that some voters had in Texas was that all you need is a voter card to vote, which can be easily obtained from anybody's mailbox. It was also noted than in some instances the deceased voted in the 2008 election.
President Carter wrote a book in the 90s about when he got into politics. He said that back then if someone dies close to the election, it was legal for someone to vote for them because they knew how "Bubba" was going to vote.
I personally would much rather see an honest voting system and I would be much more concerned about gerrymandering and electronic voting machine with no paper trail than voter IDs.
Craigs list and Ebay are both good options. You could also check out www.bartertown.com It's a site dedicated to miniatures trading.
If you want to save a lot of money and like Space Marines or Orks, you can probably pick up a 5th edition Black Reach box set pretty cheap. There's a lot of lots and bits on Ebay check. Also, just go into your local (non-GW) store, ask them if they will discount a Black Reach to you. They may just want to get rid of the stock since the new rules are coming out. Heck, ask them if they will sell it at cost, if you buy the 6th edition book with it.
Generally, 40k is cheaper to get into than Fantasy because of the lower model count (unless you use a lot of vehicles). However, if you are paying full retail, you can expect to pay upwards of $500 for a full 2000 point army.
Warmachine/Hordes is a lot less expensive because you use fewer models. Also, their two-player boxes are great.
If you go WFB/40K, as ccggenius said, buy two boxes and split them. It gets you a sizable starting army. Warmachine/Hordes, you and a friend can split one box, then buy a second rulebook on Ebay.
When you're ready for a table, buy a 6'x4' sheet of hardboard. Saw it down the middle, then put hinges on it. Folds up nice for storage to keep the wife from nagging you (or try to get her into it, which I was unsuccessful at).
Suggestions are very welcome, and remember what you see here is literally what I have! Some cards are anyway. Thanks!!!
Are you looking to buy the extra cards you will need or are your trading, plus how quickly are you looking to build? The reason why I ask is because of Isolated Chapel. Can be a little pricey, but you might be able to trade your Hero and Silverblades for some. If you go mono-white, save the Silverblades.
B/W also has some problems when you hit double-colored casting cost. This would be Silverblade, Sublime, and Nighthawk. Some Evolving Wilds will help. B/W can be found here.

If he likes Aurelia, he could try Bruna, Light of Alabaster. That way he has something different from you.

Here's what I was running.
3 Deathrite Shaman
3 Vampire Nighthawk
4 Thragtusk
Spells:
3 Abrupt Decay
3 Cyclonic Rift
4 Farseek
2 Ultimate Price
3 Think Twice
2 Garruk Relntless
3 Jace, Architect of Thought
2 Liliana of the Veil
2 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
2 Vraska the Unseen
Lands:
4 Drowned Catacomb
2 Evolving Wilds
2 Forest
4 Hinterland Harbor
2 Island
2 Swamp
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Woodland Cemetery
This deck cries for Ponder or Preordain. Since I chose not to run Snapcaster Mage, I decided against Forbidden Alchemy, which I don't like anyway. I could go with Sign in Blood. Any thoughts on good draw or dig spells?
I'm also not sold on Deathrite Shaman main deck. It didn't add anything to the game.
Or Rise from the Grave, if you don't want to splash White, but why would you not except for not having the lands. Run Arbor Elf and Farseek to ramp and Grisly Salvage to get Griselbrand in the Graveyard. Just be ready for the Graveyard hate, which Green can.
4x Slitherhead
4x Strangleroot Geist
4x Lotleth Troll
4x Dreg Mangler
4x Vampire Nighthawk
2x Desecration Demon
2x Deadbridge Goliath
Spells (13):
4x Farseek
2x Ultimate Price
3x Abrupt Decay
2x Liliana of the Veil
2x Vraska, the Unseen
7x Swamp
7x Forest
4x Woodland Cemetary
4x Overgrown Tomb
1x Rogue's Passage
3x Deathrite Shaman
2x Naturalize
2x Ground Seal
2x Pithing Needle
2x Murder
2x Sever the Bloodline
2x Mutilate
The Lotleth is questionable. How effective has he been for you? I like the Regenerate, but I could pitch to Liliana for the Scavenge.
I'd also like to fit in 4x Rancor since this is more of an aggro build.
With the pump effects you have, you might look into Fungal Sprouting. Also, since you have all the Splicers, Precursor Golem would be a good replacement for Titan Forge (great for Populate, bad for targeted removal). Craterhoof Behemoth would rock so much more than Overwhelming Stampede.
You might also want a little more ramp that puts the land on the board instead of your hand. Ranger's Path is superior to Seek the Horizon. Cultivate and Kodama's Reach are also good. All of these are great with Rampaging Baloths.
Finally, a little more spot removal. Beast Within is good and you could use it on yourself in a pinch. Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are pratically staples.
Weak/Non-theme cards that you could remove to replace:
Phantom Nishoba
Titan Forge
Bear Umbra
Soul Tithe
Hoofprints of the Stag - Slow, try Luminous Ascension or with all the Enchantments you have Sigil of the Empty Throne
Indrik Umbra - mana intensive
Knightly Valor
Call of the Conclave
Courser's Accord - mana intensive
Roar of the Wurm - mana intensive
Hope this helps.

If Naya Pod is your problem, then switch Witchbane Orb with Torpor Orb. Pod is all about enter the battlefield effects.

Mono-black could be something like this:
4x Duty-Bound Dead
4x Tormented Souls
4x Knight of Infamy
4x Servant of Nefarox
4x Vampire Nighthawk
3x Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis
4x Despise
4x Geth's Verdict
4x Go for the Throat
2x Lashwrithe
1x Mutilate
2x Cathederal of War
2x Ghost Quarter
18 Swamp
Also, Bloodcrazed Neonate can be kind of bad when you don't want to attack. I love Child of Night because of the lifelink. Although, Blood Artist is also good.
Murder over Doomblade? 1 CMC more, but hits more stuff. Maybe in the Sideboard.
What about Faith's Shield over Angelic Benediction? You would lose one Exalted, but would get through any destruction and/or blockers.
