Thoughts on Mox Opal? I picked up a set for $175. It sounded like a solid investment, will suck if they reprint it in the next year or so though. What does everyone think are the chances of a reprint for Mox? I figured low being that Wizards is not keen on reprinting "Mox" cards and hates to print free mana cards. Even so, $175 is cheaper then the usual $240 they go for.
It's just a shuffling issue...if you keep getting clogged with EC then drop him down to 3, but no less.
I already play him at 3. 4 Ravager, 3 Champion, 3 Overseer, etc. Pretty standard build. I just hate having 2 Champions in hand, and it happens way too often. There are also games when you explode and the Champion just sits in hand. It's a really baller card when you play it, but it feels so clunky. I debated replacing 1 with Master of Etherium, but there is a lot of UWR Midrange where I play.
I haven't been playing Modern Affinity for very long, but 2 Etched Champions in hand just feel bad to me. My hand always gets clogged up with this guy. I realize he is good, but is anybody else experiencing this? There are times when the card is amazing and other times when I really don't like him. Thoughts?
Double Firedancer can be difficult to deal with but other than that there really aren't any openings you are overly concerned about with them. I favor four Mortars in my list for situations like that and because I think it's just a strong card to have right now in general. With Brimaz getting forced everywhere and cards like Loxodon Smiter, Courser, Stormbreath Dragon, and Frostburn Weird I think four maindeck Mortars is a great place to be.
I may bump it up to four. I am at 3 right now in the main and I am never disappointed to see them.
That's what I thought, but I was crushed by Firedancer. It was so bad a guy opened up double Firedancer and just shocked me to kill the Courser. Disciple seems like the only ting we can throw at them, but I have no idea how effective it will be considering how fast that deck can kill you.
RDW runs out of gas fast. If you can weather the initial storm, you should be able to just turn monsters sideways. 5/5 polukranos and 6/6 arbor colossus are too big for them. There is definitely a luck factor in that match.
Burn is not RDW. Double firedancer is pretty rough and Caryatid is probably your best friend. I played it two weeks ago with the first BnG FNM and managed to get it in 3 games. I'm still playing 4x Mizzium Mortars and my list is exactly Ketter's from last week. Burn has a couple key pieces that they need to kill you with. If you take a key pieces (YP, Firedancer) then you have a shot.
RDW is actually really easy for us, although the fanatic lists can prove difficult given the reach. Given their susceptibility to mortars and Polukranos, I think it's reasonably easy.
Gruul Charm allows for mirror blowouts and MUD flyer wipes. It's very good.
Yeah, I overloaded a mortars to deal with the Firedances. Next turn he just plays his third. The card is really annoying, especially when drawn in multiples. Shocking me should not kill off my Coursers and Ghor Clans. There was a really obnoxious turn I had Stormbreath in play and he Boros Charm's me while he has 2 Dancers in play. Poor dragon took 8 to the face.
Burn is actually a favorable matchup. You just have to mulligan aggressively and keep the pressure on. They can't really do a lot about our creatures outside of Mizzium Mortars or Chained to the Rocks. Warleader's Helix comes a little late in their curve and it can't touch Stormbreath Dragon. Unravel the Aether is decent to bring in as a one-of to get rid of Chained to the Rocks.

Title says it all. What is Mono Black's weakest matchup? I am returning to Type 2 after a year or so of not playing, so I am not 100% familiar with how every top deck's matchups break down. I am mainly curious because my LGS has a stupid amount of Mono Black players. I know Esper gives them some trouble Game 1, but is there anything that consistently ruins their day?
So what is exactly the right move for Modern? Too many prices have gone haywire and it seems reprints are not coming fast enough. Inflated Modern prices just don't seem to drop, so what do we think will be done? I really want to like this format, but at the rate it's going Legacy would just be a better investment. Bitterblossom, Noble Hierarchic, and now even BoB? When is WotC going to control these spastic spikes? I know they don't care about the second format, but if they want Modern to be accessible then something has to be done to lower the barrier of entry.
For all those having issues with eslpeth tokens , elecktrickeery hoses them. Fated conflagration out of the board can also drop her if she has only +1ed one time.
Hmm, did not think about Electrickery. What about Pithing Needle in the side? It's more of a catch all that can be used against other decks too.
It looks like I was sideboarding properly then. I am probably just over thinking it. Of course an unchecked Elsepth is game. Generally I am the one resolving her, not the one trying to fight through her. After playing control for so long is so many formats I forgot how annoying it can be to play against if you are the creature deck. Aggro players, I have a new found respect for you
A
2 Chord of Calling (M15)
B
1 Thoughtseize (Theros)
2 Liliana Vess (1 foil, both M15)

Karma? What did Brad Nelson do?
That mirror match is generally pretty stupid. So much swinging back and forth. Discard spells and Garys make for uninteresting games IMO.
Yeah, that tends to make quick work of a life total LOL.
