I'm finding ppyromancer is really important for the non-delve creature lists. I'm playing 3 titi, 3 pyro, and I'm liking that a lot, gives me more early pressure.

Of all the creature we could play in grixis, isn't young P the one that clashes the MOST with Titi?

It is and I was considering that when testing, rarely however do you have a board state where you're winning with pyro and you flip a titi. If pyro doesn't take over the game then titi is the backup plan, the issue is both creatures are instant removal threats, if left alone then they take over the game.

I feel like 3 slots in the sb for land destruction could be space for something else. It's really only good against tron and even then the optimal card is Crumble to Dust, which is maaaaybe good on the play. On the draw too slow. Everything else besides blood moon seems like you'd just slow them down but lose eventually. I'd rather sb disdainful strokes or something that can be good in multiple match ups

I'm playing spreading seas, and it's going pretty well.

Negate and dispel (and spell snare too actually) are all good cards against burn, but the problem is that countering a couple of burn spells is not going to stop them from eventually killing you unless you can turn the corner and kill them first. Current Grixis decks, which are full of grindy 4 and now 5-drops, just can't do this effectively.

The burn matchup is what really makes me want to give Thing in the Ice a shot, if you can flip it it'll typically be a 2-turn clock since burn usually fetches and shocks a couple of times per game. There's nothing else that comes close to being able to shut the door for us that fast.

If I'm being completly subjective, I think we are not favored game 1 (unless you are playing some number of tasigur's + counters).
Game 2 and 3 I think we are slightly favored... but not by much.

My game plan against burn (currently) is -4 AVs, -2 Dark Dwellers, +2 counterflux, +2 ghet, +2 dispel.
I feel like as long as we only face burn 2-3 times in 15 rounds: we should still beable to come out on top.

    Don't you mean objective? Wink

I'm coming from a list where the creature line up is

    3 thing
    3 snap
    1 tas
    1 pia
    1 kalitas
    2 vendillion

So it makes sense to run the counters for me as I have some threats to drop on curve

Well, that's pretty unlucky getting the same bad matchup twice in a row. Reminds me of when I took Jund to an SCG classic tuned to beat an aggro heavy meta and got matched up against Abzan twice in the first three rounds. Bleh.

Burn has always been a problem for Grixis, and Kalitas unfortunately does not even help very much. You can try running janky stuff like Vampiric Link or Jorubi murk lurker in the sideboard but those cards are just so bad in every other matchup.

If you really want to improve the matchup significantly you have to go back to playing 4 Thought Scour along with 4-5 delve creatures and some dispels/negates. It's impossible to really stabilize against Burn because they have inevitability, so you have to put them on a fast clock early.

One good thing I got it of it (despite going 0-4 against burn): 3/4 of the games i lost I was with in one turn of a victory. In those 3 games had my opponent drawn one less burn spell, I would have won.

Part of that is my own misplays and lack of familiarity with that deck/matchup. Should have won two of those games had I played optimally.

But that's burnZ. Such a bad matchup you really can't afford any misplays if you want to win

You should side in counters against burn, negate and dispells are good, negate being better than dispell right now probably for other match ups.

Guys. Our match ups tend to be pretty decent most of the time but there is one deck that absolutely driving me f****** nuts. The zombie deck with bloodghasts, Olivia, Gravecrawlers, (sometimes Bloodstained Champions).. I just cannot beat the deck. It's so irritating because obviously their threats keep coming back. I honestly feel that a card like bloodghast in particular is a little OP considering all you have to do is play a land to get it back. at least the other recurring threats have more reasonable requirements, but playing a land is so easy to do constantly. graveyard hate is the answer sure but still.

anyway, what do we do about this deck with our colors? it's making me so irritated, i never draw my anger of the gods and i really don't feel like going up to 3 in the board just for this stupid deck. need something that can be useful in other match ups

I've had similar issues preboard against dredgavine, 4 prized amalgams, bloodghast, gravecrawler, neonate and grave troll, it's a strong deck.

If you're running thopter sword combo there is no reason not to run 1 academy ruins

In my opinion you always want to run 4 av, you want to maximize your ability to play it turn 1. Also as far as I have seen drawing some later isn't too bad. If you play 2-3 av you almost never see it in opening hand so it will always be a topdeck you don't want. So in my opinion it's 4 or 0 no inbetween.

I don't think it wins the game faster, but fae's responses all seem 1 turn too slow to me right now.. Fae is a very defensive deck, but there are a lot of fast decks that can get under it before you have mana set up. That's just my opinion though! I will be keeping it for another format Smile Thanks for filling me in!

Wait, why GDD? Sorry, I am new to this archetype, I play grixis fae, but feel control may pack the speed I feel fae lacks. How does gdd cast AV?

As far as a new primer goes, a few of us have been working on one. This is my draft, which others have contributed to. Unbanning AV changes a lot of things, and I haven't gotten around to reflecting that on my draft. I'd love comments and suggestions.

I agree that cutting lands for AV is wrong, unless you expect your mana curve to shrink.

I do hope Ashok does well in the new meta. He's kinda my pet planeswalker, and I'd love to run him.
