A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

I ended up pulling my Av's from my list replacing them with a second cryptic, 3rd snapcaster (which I needed anyway) a dreadboare, and dropped to 24 lands and am testing new lili. moved the AV's to my side since they're really only good in our grindy matchups if they don't come down turn 1.

Why not young pyro over the thing in the ice? Seems to have more immediate value?

Agree about the homonuclus, seems really easy to flip, also I think in a version with that it'd be more of a grixis tempo deck with pyromaster in it. at that point though you might as well be playing UWR tempo and have like the grand master.

Any thoughts on distended mindbender? it rips removal before landing so it can protect itself..

edit: forgot it didn't have flash so you can't respond to removal on your threats for it

Eldrich Moon spoilers aren't complete yet, but are there any cards piquing the interest of anyone? Curious Homunculus Voracious Reader seems like a potentially powerful card. 2-Drop that can flip quickly into a legitimate threat, not sure how good it's mana producing/mana reduction ability will be considering most of the instants and sorceries are 1 mana or 2-mana-double-color, but a 3/4 Prowess for cheap is no joke.

Whispers of Emrakul reads awesome, but delirium is not very consistent even with all the Thought scour and other graveyard filling stuff we run. Probably too inconsistent to rely on imo.

Collective Brutality is another very cool card, but is probably not powerful enough to warrant main deck. Maybe sideboard tech for burn? Kill a guy, drain for two, rip a burn spell from their hand, and potentially landing a Tasigur, the Golden Fang all on turn 3. Again, not sure if it's good enough, but warrants mentioning.

Elder Deep-Fiend, solely because it has flash, is another potential card. It's a 5/6 that can flash in cheap if in response to removal (and tap their team or the rest of their lands) , or even for 5 if you sacrifice a Snapcaster Mage. You can do it during their upkeep to prevent them from casting spells or end of turn to tap their creatures to set up those last few points of damage. Emerge with flash, a big body, and powerful cast trigger, such a cool card! Kolaghan's command can always get the creature you sacrificed back, and you if emerge in response to a Path to Exile you can at least put the creature in the graveyard for later use.

Again not saying that these cards will all make the cut, but it's fun to explore some potential new additions. Hopefully the new Liliana is busted!

I've been testing whispers of emrakul and have found it entirely lack luster. I didn't even really have spots for it. I'm very excited for elder deep-fiend. The one thing I missed most moving from grixis fae to control was mistbind clique, and while this isn't the same card it still reads very strong to me and is reminiscent enough for me to test it. Blanking removal on tasigur and tapping stuff is very good as well. (by blanking I mean emerging in response.

I think collective brutality is less good though. We run a lot of powerful cards, at best using all modes we 3 for 2 ourselves and gain 2 life. Seems really bad since we are discarding and most of our cards are flexible and good at most times in the game.

Clique has been awesome imo. But it's the burkhart version

I guess against some decks putting something in their library is better than putting it in the grave

That and I like the option of holding up mana for reactive spells and being able to cast Clique instead if they decide not to cast anything. Plus it actually does protect you from top deck ulamog and stuff

One thing I wanted to address.. I don't think I like SB Kalitas in the Burkhart version. He didn't use them either and I can kind of see why. It's so hard to find time to cast it in that version of the deck. I'd feel so guilty not running any but is he really a necessity?

I took mine out, I've never felt safe to cast him and he really didn't do what I've needed him to do. Maybe if you're afraid of the abzan company deck.

The new Chord is an exciting add for the deck. Being a 2 card combo vs 3 is a real advantage for this deck with more tutor effects now available. Plenty of utility 3 drops, like Courser, that can become an angel or spike feeder that this deck could become a strong option again.

I don't play this deck but it's the first one I thought of when preordering a set

I assume he's holding rev, and if he is then he's well past your lightning bolts, he also won't waste mana and he'll swing with the cats alone again. At this point he has stabilized and doesn't have to worry about anything you play

Isn't AV or SV inconsistent when run as a 2of rather than 4ofs? These are effects you would want the most on turn 1, not turn 5, 6 or 7.

I'm still working out AV/SV numbers. I know I want 4 Thought Scours since fueling the GY is a much bigger deal than some people tend to think.

I know I probably only want 1-2 AVs in the main, since it's super slow and you rarely have to resolve more than one. It's not like you're trying to chain revelations into more revelations. Chaining AVs into AVs just isn't relevant when even control mirrors come down to tempo and the like.

SV could be something else, as I don't really like the card, but it's better than putting a bad one or two of in the list. When you don't know what belongs in a blue deck, SV usually does the least damage to your consistency so it's a safe default.

I was saying that about TS like 20 pages back and people kept telling me "you really don't need 4" glad it's working for you. I'm still running 4 av and I find it clogs sometimes, and the 1 lighthouse isn't enough to smooth it out, maybe 3 is the number I want.

Also has anyone else played against the nahiri jeskai with a very small black splash for lingering souls, it's a nightermare.

If you target a fetch land with Boom and crack it in response, wouldn't it no longer have legal targets and fizzle?

Dreadbore seems fine in the board. I don't want it main because of what the guy a few posts above mentioned. It's worse than terminate in more match ups than it is better.

I'm going to test Hero's Downfall for a bit and see how the 3 mana changes things. It's nice because it kills Master of Waves which, after last night, is going to be relevant.

Since it is instant speed I will probably main deck it and move Tribute to Hunger to the side instead.

Are you guys even still using edict effects? I feel guilty taking out my 1 copy of Tribute to Hunger. It's pretty clutch a lot of the time because the life gain is great.

I tried To The Slaughter for a minute. It isn't hard to get delirium especially if running 4 thought scour but it conflicts with Tasigur. So not in this 3x Tasigur list but in a list with only 1 it'd be ok, but then 4 TS would be pointless with out delve. So maybe if you're running walkers or Seal of Fire? Otherwise I have no interest in it. Idk

A copy of Damnation seems necessary.

That feeling of not having a board wipe as an out makes you feel so helpless when you're able to dig and dig for cards but there's no answer to be found. Lol

As long as one of the targets is legal the card will resolve.

Eh. I'd have preferred allied colored Commanders. If there are cool cards in the decks I'm cool with it, though. Hopefully the Legendaries are interesting too. We all know anything Theros themed is going to be welcome by me.

Kaladesh... eh. I wanted Egyptian World. And if not that, then Vryn. I didn't like Kaladesh but whatever. MTG has been crazy anyway so I don't mind sitting out a set.
I know you love Jace, but Vryn was probably the least interesting plane they have mentioned in the past 10 years. Kaladesh is quite literally Steampunk India flavored with Esper.

This^ steam punk india sounds awesome

What I have in mind is 4 SV 3 Scour 1 AV main and 3 AV side.

    Main
    2 Tas
    2 Angler
    2 Kal
    1 PKN
    4 Snaps

Postboard against grindy: 4 SV 4 AV, 3 scours go to side.
    2 Tas
    2 TitI
    2 Kal
    1 PKN
    4 Snaps

Is three scours enough to support x2 tasigur, x2 anglers, and x4 snapcasters?
Just wondering your experience with it.

From my personal experience I haven't missed going down to 2 serum visions.

I may be suffering from traditionalism. OK, i'll try going to 3 SV and 1 more Scour. Was kind of questioning if I should go with 4 SV 4 Scour and just 3 AV main.

I'm playing 3/4/3 of those, but my list is a bit less than optimal, only running 2 snaps because I don't have anymore. I just got the second (traded a pile of 3-4 dollar cards to a shop)

    Here's what I'm bringing tomorrow:

I'd like to replace a mountain with a fumarole, and the sideboard will be dependant on my meta.

Why are you two still arguing ? Your debate has deviated into arguing whether or not the deck his opponent was playing should be considered Tier 1 because he was running a copy of Aristocrat. Whether or not the deck is/could've been/would be tier 1 is very subjective. Besides it's not like this single very specific situation is a dealbreaker for the card and/or archetype.

    For me... It's about principle.
I dislike it when people use nitche scenarios to prove a point (when it doesn't actually prove anything because it's not the norm or even a statistically likelihood).

Aka. "I hit a bunch of dead cards off AV, AV bad". I dislike that kind of logic.

But you are correct. This has devolved and serves no purpose.

I'll be play testing Kalitas a bit more. If I keep it the blood moons will become two more mages in the board.

If it's about principle do it in pm's instead of flooding the grixis thread.

I'm finding we really need to start putting pressure on earlier than our tap out 4-5 drop gameplan for us to really stabilize. Going to try a modified chapin list and see how that looks at fnm this week.
