Quote from Prodigal_PlaneswalkerQuote from Card Slinger JI still prefer 1 vs. 1 and Tag Team like how Bushiroad has it
I missed this statement earlier. How does Tag Team work in Cardfight Vanguard? I still only play casually and don't watch the anime.
Both players of a team share a damage zone, the team loses once they aquire 9 damage.
Each player can only attack the player in front of them. So say you're the left player on your team, you can only attack the player on your left.
Each player may guard for their teammate.
Turns alternate between teams, so player A of team 1, followed by player A of team 2, then player B of team 1, then player B of team 2. The 4th player attacks first.

Not really. I am a bit burned out on the original since I always use it to teach new players.
So far, I only keep them separate because I do not want to go through the hassle of separating out the cards afterwards. While each set is a good game on its own, playing combined will probably make for the best experience. Once my local players have gone through more games, I will start combining sets.
Different groups sometimes have their own house rules. I've played with people who use all the maids from a set at once and people who have banned certain maids in their group to restrict obvious strategies. Someone from my own group suggested a variant in which each player gets a random private maid at the beginning of the game.
I recommend starting with the original since the expansions build upon the ideas that were presented in it.
Some things to be aware of when choosing your first set:
Romantic Vacation is the only set that does not have private maids. Because of this, I would not recommend starting with Romantic Vacation.
Also, while the maids in each set are unique to that set, each set also has card types unique to it:

I just made this up as I'm typing this. I'll probably try it out the next time I open a pack.
Scrabble Pack Wars
Suggested by one of my local players. You can try it solo.

But wouldn't players come up with new decks to get around mental misstep? Couldn't the format evolve beyond that?
These sort of questions are also how variants are born, if not entirely new games.
Would it break Magic as we know it? Yes. But it could make for an interesting variant.

Yeah, it was written by an "experience designer" not a rules manager. I've been arguing with someone elsewhere over whether or not hero cards were truly intended to be played as permanents. I'm arguing that they should follow the rules for Vanguards as described in section 311, because having your hero card destroyed (Abrupt Decay), exiled (Oblivion Ring), bounced (Capsize), or stolen (Confiscate) really destroys the flavor of hero cards.
Context: we are experimenting with using them in variants beyond the challenge decks.
***EDIT: Pictures of the Hydra Playmat attached!***
Oops, I forgot I had these. They've been sitting in my phone for over a week. The playmat seems to be made of high quality, probably waterproof, paper. I'm guessing that the mat is included with the challenge deck (this was not clarified with the person who let me take these pictures).

I also recently heard about a local store doing non-sanctioned Modern with proxies. If it's not already common, it may be in the future. I see more proxies in casual these days too (I use them myself).
First rule of proxy club is you do not talk about proxy club. Second rule of proxy club is you *do not* talk about proxy club.
