This doesn't appeal to those who like the rush of trying to get that one $100 card, because obviously those are picked clean. But it can appeal to you if you just like opening random stuff and being surprised.
I love buying collections at off-line auctions. My favorite surprise was the time an auctioneer announced before bidding that a box of assorted cards from The Dark would not have Maze of Ith only to find a Maze of Ith in the box after having won the auction!
A buddy of mine uses old sleeves as miscellaneous creature tokens.
I use old deckboxes as miscellaneous card/dice storage.
I use old sleeves for card dividers in my bulk storage.
I also use them for mandatory "boss monsters" in my Horde.
Some "print and play" games from BoardGameGeek are another use for old sleeves.
If a sleeve has nice art, you can cut out the back and use them to decorate your deckboxes. I've done this with a couple of my life counters. (I used the below image on another thread about life counters)
There are actually two different types of these out there, produced at different times and by different companies.
Good point. I remember a vendor showing me the difference. Basically, one has the trademark symbol and the other one doesn't. Unfortunately, I cannot recall which one is supposed to have the symbol...
it has 10 planes with locations from that block's setting
So, 10 planes on Theros?
That kinda kills the theme of exploring the multiverse...
I also would like to see 10 planes per year rather than getting 40 planes every few years. However, I think a better breakdown would be 2 for the current block, 2 for existing planes not in the current block, 3 for totally new planes that may never be explored again, and 3 reprints, for people who missed out on the earlier releases/promos.
The Duelist life counter is a collectible for bling. I would not recommend tossing it into your deck box.
I've used a normal abacus in the past. It is cheap and functional.
There are also lots of other options for life counters sold at many TCG retailers.
I've seen lots of different things used as life counters over the years. Poker chips, combination locks, poker cards, glass beads, dice, pistachios, and various types of candy.
I'm not following any of the current anime this season. I've been watching older series such as:
Future Diary (on DVD)
AKB0048 (on DVD)
High School DxD (on DVD)
Tokyo Majin (on DVD)
We Without Wings (on DVD)
Michiko & Hatchin (on DVD)
Is This a Zombie of the Dead (on DVD)
Love Live (on Hulu)
Currently catching up on:
Pet Girl of Sakurasou (on Hulu; up to episode 13)
So dead skin, table dirt, and body oils, all old and nastily gathering on your sleeves.
I just want to point out that table dirt becomes a non-issue for anyone using a playmat. The other two issues can also be reduced by washing one's hands more often.
If you are extremely depressed for any reason that pertains to a card game you should seek professional help.
Depression is a real problem that many people actually suffer from. Do you actually think you are depressed or are you just sad and incredibly insensitive?
I want to address both of the above quotes. Abe Sargent once pointed out that Magic is about community. When most of a group adopts Commander as the default game, the Magic players who do not play Commander are suddenly left out in the cold. Commander really is a different play experience from regular Magic. If it wasn't, Commander players would just play Magic. For a Magic player whose group adopts Commander, it is as if his or her group adopted some game other than Magic.
Imagine if your Commander group suddenly started playing only Cube. All your existing Commander decks are suddenly worthless, as the only games that get played are Cube. Sure, you might enjoy playing Cube once in a while. But you really prefer Commander. Whenever you want to play Commander you are told to either join the fun games of Cube or basically go sit in the corner while the rest of the group plays. While there may be other Commander players in the group, they aren't always available and your opportunities to play Commander become few to non-existent. You have essentially lost the group you once had. Do you get it now or are you just incredibly insensitive?
What is this for?
Then I enjoyed the learning experience of box-mapping during Scars of Mirrodin. (I no longer box map)
These days, I enjoy the randomness of Pack Wars (official WotC version, not the unofficial gambling version).
However, I no longer enjoy opening packs just to open them. I have a bunch of unopened packs, but I keep them sealed for Pack Wars.

We've also moved beyond simple bread to pretzels and doughnuts.
Yes.
Sometimes it's mead.

Heroe's Reunion would only get you one mana and one life. A Lotus Petal that gains you one life is good, but it's not Dark Ritual.
Show and Tell still costs two colorless.

But wouldn't players come up with new decks to get around mental misstep? Couldn't the format evolve beyond that?
These sort of questions are also how variants are born, if not entirely new games.
Would it break Magic as we know it? Yes. But it could make for an interesting variant.
Fortunately, everyone would be running four Absorbs to counter that.
Also, Land Tax on turn one with no land drop.
Lightning Helix is suddenly better than Lightning Bolt for mono-red.
Geist of Saint Traft becomes the game's best one drop.
Turn 1 double Dark Ritual into Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker might be fun.
Storm decks would have a lot of fun too.
I missed out on this and wonder what the format would look like now if that card had remained legal.
Yesterday, I went to Target for non-Magic stuff and checked the TCGs out of curiosity. They had three of each deck in stock.
