Lobo2714 posted a message on Let's Play The Best Format Ever [IPA]I'm not too experienced with this format, but I'm pretty sure that not playing Fire/Ice is wrong. I don't really know what to cut for it, but that card is so versatile that it really needs to be in there. Maybe Confound?Posted in: Sealed Pool & Draftcap Discussion

Lobo2714 posted a message on A Look Back: Damage on the StackFrom my perspective, part of why people miss DotS so much is that in many ways, it made blocking a lot better. When you attack with something like Sakura Tribe Elder or Mogg Fanatic, you have very limited options. If your opponent blocks, you stack damage and hit something for 1 or get a land. If they don't, then you most likely leave your creature alive. However, when blocking, you can almost always get full value from your creature. Removal of DotS, then, can at least in part be to blame for the rise in aggro decks, as the best way of beating an aggro deck is outlasting it with 2 for 1s, which cards like STE made easy. Now, there are very few, if any, cheap 2 for 1s to punish aggro decks in creature combat.Posted in: Opinions & Polls

Lobo2714 posted a message on Jace's PhantasmI don't think it's all that good in a mill deck. A dedicated mill deck wants to do one thing and one thing only: mill the opponent out. To do that, it has to have mill cards and cards that help it survive. This card doesn't really do either, and to me it seems a lot like combining infect and regular damage in the same deck. Unless it's something like Wolf Run + Nexus, you're just going to make it harder for yourself to win with either individual win condition by mixing the two.Posted in: New Card Discussion

Lobo2714 posted a message on The Most Recognized Painting in the WorldThere are a whole host of factors that go into why Eastern art is not as well known as Western art, one of which being the Euro-centric world view that is pretty widely acknowledged by now in the art world. Also, if there were to be Eastern art that were widely recognizable, it would most likely be woodblock prints, which were made for mass production. This includes stuff like The Great Wave, what I would guess is probably the most recognizable Eastern work of art. Also, the art culture in Asia was significantly different from that in Europe, as many artists were wealthy aristocrats who made art for themselves and their friends, rather than talented individuals who made art for wealthy people. This restricted art to the upper tiers of society for a fairly long period of time.Posted in: Talk and Entertainment

Lobo2714 posted a message on No, I don't know how to [MODOCube]My draft would have looked entirely different, as I would have started with P1P1 Mom. If you've ever played against that card, you know how utterly ridiculous it is, and for some reason I really enjoy white-based aggro decks in Cube. If I were following along fully, I probably would've ended up in UW tempo. But I guess that's the cool thing about Cube...two people can look at the same packs, make totally different picks and still end up with solid decks.Posted in: Sealed Pool & Draftcap Discussion

Lobo2714 posted a message on Going to be cubing for the first time online tonight. What should I know?I wouldn't advise taking it so seriously. Cube is an opportunity to draft whatever off-the-wall strategy you can find. Mana fixing is pretty important to certain types of decks, particularly control decks that want to run the best cards they can possibly get. Also, many good cards happen to have difficult casting costs, which makes duals/fetches pretty key. As for strategies, anything goes. Whatever happens, you should still end up with a good deck.Posted in: The Cube Forum

Lobo2714 posted a message on Things you wish you could tell yourself when you first started playing MTG?I would tell myself when to trade Standard cards for maximum value. I cringe to think of all the times I traded for Standard cards at their peak and traded them off after they rotated.Posted in: Magic General

Lobo2714 posted a message on [[Official]] Trade Evaluation -- Pile A versus BA>B>C for me, but that's because I'm more content meddling around the middle of the pack than being in the big leagues. Pile A has infinitely more potential for value, but Pile B is hard to find. Pile C is fine, but not even close to A or B in my eyes. In short, Pile A has more value, but if you're able to dump Imperial Recruiters easily and for retail value, then B might not be a terrible choice.Posted in: Market Street Café

Lobo2714 posted a message on PTQ Honolulu: What would you build?I feel like this pool is good enough to run GRw, splashing for flashback on travel preparations. Sure, your bombs are good, but you also have a great aggressive deck, with triple Darkthicket Wolf, among other things. That deck even has Balefire Dragon, Charmbreaker Devils, and Mayor, which is plenty of bombiness on its ownPosted in: Limited Archives

Lobo2714 posted a message on [Activity] Innistrad forum draft - P1P2I'm taking Murder of Crows here. It's too early to care that deeply about signals, and Murder is the best card by a long shot. Plus, from here on out we can cut blue and make our intentions clear.Posted in: Limited Archives

Lobo2714 posted a message on BYO Pack draft coming up need help with some choicesIf you're looking for a removal heavy set, Rise of the Eldrazi has you covered. Unfortunately, a lot of the cards in that set aren't going to be much good for the draft in general, but you should be able to get a good first pick out of it (if the wonky print runs don't get you).Posted in: Limited Archives

Lobo2714 posted a message on [SCD] Armored SkaabPack 1 they shouldn't go too early, but in Packs 2/3, they get snapped up very quickly. Once you know for sure that you're in a deck that needs Armored Skaab, well, you REALLY need Armored Skaab. It's a critical card for the Ux Graveyard Abuse deck, and if you get to late Pack 2/Pack 3 and don't have any, you need to take them over everything but premier removal and bombs. Innistrad in general is a format focused around making sure you have a correct balance of necessary components to make your decks work.Posted in: Limited Archives

Lobo2714 posted a message on Invisible Stalker extremely OP?I hate Invisible Stalker, I really do. I don't think I'd play it in every blue deck even if I had a cleaver. It just makes the game really reliant on variance, which I don't feel favors me. If you think you need the variance to win, by all means, go ahead and first pick Invisible Stalkers. Sure, I've seen games where T2 Stalker T3 Cleaver wins the game, but I've seen more games where T2 Stalker gets in for 3 or 4 then chump blocks.Posted in: Limited Archives
