Back when I was testing vizier knightfall and struggling against humans, I threw an ulvenwald tracker in my deck almost as a joke. I quickly realized that untapping with him is basically GG and have kept him as a 1 of in the sb ever since. He absolutely destroys other creature decks, and is a great way to force VoR to trade up into the token as well.

Back when I was playing vizier combo with Rhonas in the deck it felt like actual cheating to have tracker + rhonas in play.

Hey pizz0wn3d---Good to see you over here too, we've had some back and forth on the Knightfall thread...

Have you tried the (still) bant version that put up results this weekend in the scg modern open? It cuts the knight plan for spell queller. I'm gearing up for a another modern classic this weekend and have to decide if i want the knights for the midrange or queller for more disruption, curious if you've tested both and your thoughts!!! Heres one of the lists- http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=116828

Also congrats to Ben Ragan who got 3rd at the event with the abzan version!

I haven't had the time, but I'm 100% going to try a fauna shaman in my list. That card actually seems pretty sick. Ben Ragan is actually a friend of a friend's, and was on the vizier knightfall plan until very recently as well.

This is me, just posting my results here in case anyone wants to discuss it or ask any questions. Only missed top 8 to tiebreakers. Ended the event at 5-1-1, with the draw being a game I would've won had I noticed my opponent cast a card they didn't have the mana for early enough to rewind, would've won game 3 had we not gone to time. Oh well.

You pointed out that all the creatures on the combo side of the VizierKnightfall deck suck, but you also guarantee that you always get the combo eventually, be it by Chord, Company, Ewit ... I somewhat disagree with you.

I think the vizier version is much more vulnerable to hate (like Cage for example) and doesn't play another game besides the combos.

Playing against good opponents is much harder since they know what to target and kill and from my experience you just end up putting too many resources into trying to combo ...

I'm not a big fan of Abzan/GW CountersCompany but if I had to play a vizier deck I don't see the advantage of VizierKnightfall over just pure CountersCompany.

Regular knightfall is so fun to play and if you like interacting or grinding more than thats great, but if you like winning the combo makes too much sense to deny to me.

That also doesn't make much sense. Look, CountersCompany is proven to be better than VizierKnightfall, so if you value winning you should just pick it by your reasoning. Kidding aside, even Kelvin said that currently traditional Knighfall is probably better, and I agree with him.

VizierKnighfall always seems to be too fragile or not having the focus it needs to succeed in Modern. Reflector Mage is the only card I really enjoy and you can play it on the Knighfall also, while Spell Queller that vizier lists don't run is just a powerhouse for the current meta.

I'm just not sold on the current SBoards for traditional Knightfall, if you guys could share yours.

How is the vizier version more vulnerable to hate? Cage doesn't stop the combo, and chord often gets sided out against decks that bring it in. The advantage is that knight is a better card in the meta than Kitchen finks (being large enough to trade or outgrow eldrazis and delve threats, while also being able to find gavony or kessig), and the blue sb options are a HUGE deal in our otherwise problematic matchups. Staticaster, Unified Will, and Nissa are all very powerful in the matchups they're used in (not that this is new information considering they're cards from tKnightfall).

I keep getting the feeling that those that criticize deck for being "fragile" and lacking in focus haven't actually played it. Playing 2x Voice and Renegade rallier in the mb have completely changed the interactive matchups for me, and the deck feels very resilient to removal when you overload the deck with 2 for 1s (rallier, ewitt, voice, recruiter, coco = 14 cards) and 'must kill' threats (druid, knight, voice token = 10 cards). I've played traditional knightfall, and all too often felt like I had a deck full of 2/3's that couldn't close the game out quick enough when I had a window.

Additionally, counters company is only proven to be a more popular deck, not necessarily better. Vizier Knightfall is lesser known, and if one is better than the other, it's by a very small margin, though they're both extremely viable options (see the 2nd place vizier list I posted earlier https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/757005#paper).

Took my list to fnm last night and ended up going 4-0, though I did get a round 1 bye lol. Here's my current list:

I also played basically the same list (-2 mage, -1 retreat, +1 Rallier, +1 BoP, +1 vizier) on tuesday with a 3-1 finish, losing to thing ascension.

Last night's matches were as such:
R1 - bye. Ezpz match, opponent was scrub

R2 - Living End. I played t1 dork > t2 druid, and he casts Living end on his t3 bringing back 3 street wraiths and an Archfiend of Ilfnir. On my next turn I fetch and cast renegade rallier, get back druid and pass. He swings in and knocks me down to 4 life, but doesn't have two cyclers and my druid survives, so I'm able to untap and combo off. G2 he gets in an early Living end and kills my board with archfiend before I can combo off. G3 I am able to drop an early Scooby and eat his archfiend from gy, then spend the rest of the game holding up chord for Eidolon of Rhetoric in response to a cascade spell. We spend at least 6 or so turns passing back and forth, and both times I get enough mana on board to swing with scooby or eat something from his gy eot, he plays a fulminator to blow up a nonbasic. Eventually he plays out his hand (suspend Living end. play land, hardcast simian spirit guide), and reveals that he just never found a cascade spell despite cycling 10+ creatures, so I EoT chord for druid and untap and combo kill him. Fun mind games lol.

R3 - Burn. Game one I play a bunch of mana dorks, and assemble the vizier combo, but never see a payoff spell or anything other than mana dorks and lands before he kills me. G2 I'm able to combo kill on t3. G3 I'm on the draw and keep a shaky hand of path, vizier, coco, and lands after he mulls to 6, which gets much less shaky when he ends up actually mulliganing to 4 after not having lands in the other hands. He doesn't find enough gas and I'm able to combo off before he puts me to 0.

R4 - RG Tron. Very quick match. G1 I combo off on t3 on the play, he didn't have time to do anything before it was over. G2 my hand was pretty slow, but I had negate and unified will in hand, which was enough to prevent him from doing anything relevant while I chained 3 back to back CoCos off of eWitt (t3, 4, and 5) and killed him w/ combat damage.

I'm still pretty hyped on this deck, and really enjoying the variety of lines of play the deck has available with CoCo + Chord. I played a game against ETron on tuesday and had a sequence of turns that was extremely fun for me. I played a t1 + 2 dork, t3 play nissa on 1 and +2 her, then unified will his reality smasher, untap and put a druid into play w/ nissa and play ewitt to get back will, which I use to counter his ballista on 2. My following turn I activate nissa to put another dork into play and pass turn with chord and path in hand. He casts endbringer, which I plan to path EoT. He then plays TKS (active tron at this point), which I respond to by chording for ewitt, getting back will, and countering. EoT I path his endbringer, and untap and draw CoCo for the combo kill.

Not sure how many people here saw this, but here's a pretty awesome write up on a 1st place finish w/ the vizier knightfall variant:

posted a message on [Primer] Abzan Midrange / Junk / BGw Souls/ BG Rock
Hey guys, just got back from Tuesday Night Modern after taking my BG list to a 4-0 finish. This puts me at an overall 15-1 in the last two or so weeks. I should preface that with saying that I haven't had to play against any Eldrazi Tron or Scapeshift, and the local meta is all over the place, but the list has been running super great. Here's what I'm currently running:

    Of Note:

No grim flayer - This card is sweet, I love this card. This card is not good atm imo. It is smaller than a lot of things in the format, and if he's not swinging every turn he's not generating value. It also makes our deck weaker to graveyard hate, and I hated how RIP would make the abzan version stop in its tracks until we could find a decay/pulse/sage. I've found that 4 bobs is also quite good at fueling delirium since he either dies immediately and puts a creature in the gy (land/instant/sorcery being pretty easy to dump into the gy via interaction normally), or he draws us extra cards and takes over the game all by himself. Win/win.

No kalitas, 2 ooze/tracker - Kalitas isn't as consistently good as scooby/tracker, so I moved him to the sb to squeeze in an extra scooby to help against burn/dredge/DS decks. This also lowers my curve and I don't have to worry about flipping a 4 drop to bob.

GftT+Victim of Night - Need to kill big dudes at instant speed, these are the best options, and running 2 of either one makes us weaker to affinity or gurmag angler/dredge

Hissing Quagmire/Treetop - This is actually still up in the air. Quagmire is basically in there as a 'removal' spell i can traverse for if i need to (actually got to kill an Gurmy with it tonight), and treetop is a new addition to help close out games in a top deck situation. Not sure if I want to keep both since etb tapped lands can set us back pretty far sometimes.

    SB choices:
Kalitas is still a house against enough decks that he's worth running in the 75.
Chameleon Colossus absolutely destroys DS decks, and is pretty damn good in the BGx matches too. Super fun to traverse for this wacky card.

    How my rounds went tonight:

R1 GW CoCo Hatebears w/ MB crusaders - G1 he actually puts two crusaders into play, but I manage to edict one w/ lilana after killing his 3rd creature in play EoT and dropping a liliana on my turn. We go back and forth for a little bit where I can't swing my 6/7 goyf and he can't swing his crusader for fear of dying on the crackback, until I drop a Tireless Tracker, and draw 4 extra cards off it. The final turn he swings to put me at lethal the following turn, and I crack two clues EoT to draw the removal I need to kill his blockers and swing for lethal. G2 He drops a crusader t3 and it murders me, but G3 he gets stuck on 2 lands and my t2 bob grows my board into 2 goyfs, tracker, and a scavenging ooze before he finally concedes.

R2 Burn - G1 I draw lands and bob while he burns me out. G2/3 I drop bobs + TS for brutalities, kalitas, tendrils, and pulse and procede to drop t2 + 3 goyfs and beat him up before he can burn me out.

R3 Infect - Great matchup for me and I take it pretty quickly 2-0

R4 Grixis DS - G1 we grind for a while and he's decently ahead for most of it.. until he ends up drawing lands for 4 or so turns while I eventually stick a threat and put him in the dirt. He ended that game having seen 18/20 of his lands. Wow. G2 starts off in his favor, chaining snapcasters and kCommands until I eventually traverse for a Chameleon Colossus and smack him for 8 and force him to use snapcasters as ambush vipers to stay alive. He eventually ran out of 2/1s and Colossus finishes him off.

overall this deck feels super sweet, and mb tec edges really help us to punish people for shaky keeps. I'm really liking the 2 color mana base, and don't feel like I'm missing much, if anything by not playing the 3rd color. My mana base is super easy on my life total, allows space for utility lands, and there's almost no risk to dying to blood moon (esp w/ traverse searching for basics). I have considered splashing a single godless shrine/blood crypt to play explosives or some other white/red cards out of the board, but it hasn't felt necessary yet.

    A question for the board:

Has anyone tried Plunge into Darkness? To me this card seems like a really awesome tutor for our deck. Only the second ability is relevant most of the time, but if you somehow miscalculate your life total and have an extra creature or two, you could use its first ability.

That card seems pretty bad, tbh. Second half seems pretty high variance for the cost. The 1st half will almost never gain more than 6 life.

Looks like literally everyone not on CFB is writing articles about this deck lol. I expect this thread to get a bit more popular.

Some good discussion here on the new delirium build:

Should we consider renaming this thread or creating a new one for the delirium version?
