You draw it, it says "If you don't cast it, put it into your hand." right there in the text.

You may be right, but the "if you don't cast it" bit is still a bit confusing to me. It already says you "may" cast the card, so why isn't the second bit just "otherwise, put it into your hand"?
Otherwise is linked to the first clause in the effect, Otherwise would be a shorter version of "If you revealed a land or a card with a higher converted mana cost, put it in your hand."

"If you don't cast it" covers all options (card you choose not to cast, card you couldn't cast because it wouldn't have a valid target (even with a lower CMC), card you couldn't cast because the CMC was too high, and lands).

Was just about to ask if you drew the land or not, since it stipulates non-land in previous statement. Thank you, I was a little worried that would get mired in "you can't cast that anyway" kind of talk.

...Before I get into the blocks, I always start by asking: How was the last year of Magic design? It was a transitional year. We were changing over to an entirely new model, and that transition proved more difficult than I think we realized at the time. There were plenty of highlights, as I'll get into in a second, but I think this last year to me was more defined as a year of important lessons. We're on the verge of another big step up in Magic design technology, and this last year has been a valuable learning year...
Is he talking here about the two-block model or something new coming in kaladesh?

When he says technology it has whispers of MtGO, are they trying to catch up to hearthstone now?

I'm hoping for one four mana cost commander in each set (ah-la Nephilim) as the main general. Then a bunch of dual cost commanders with color identity abilities in their text box. The volver idea is also something i love, especially if they choose to do multikicker

I'm glad for another artifacts matters set, i just don't want to be all tokens. As much as I love token generation it just gets annoying sometimes.

You heard me right, entitled, as in you and people like you. WOTC is a business, not a charity. You are priced out of formats? Tough, don't play those formats, you aren't obligated to play them. And while you may not post hatemail, there have been others with similar feelings on the matter absolutely spamming hatemail.
You understand how ridiculous this line of thinking is though, right?
Ridiculous enough to be the foundation of human commerce.
Seriously? MtG is not even close to an actual open market. Everything ultimately goes through WotC. Sets are only sold for a certain period of time and after that... that's it. Likening that to "the foundation of human commerce" is downright absurd, borderline trolling. WotC ultimately controls and caps the supply of cards without regard to demand when a set goes out of print, which causes ridiculous secondary effects, like having an uncommon from a large set being worth $15 simply because ROE wasn't opened heavily. That's a problem for the long term health of the game, and WotC would be wise to pay attention when customers are unhappy because they can't afford to play the game they want to play.

What, no one's going to complain this should be an uncommon, just like Imperial Recruiter?

    Nice hyperbole

    Diferent situations compared to Inquisition
So a rarity upshift on a reprint is not ok, but a rarity upshift on an (almost) functional reprint is OK?
    Talking about selective criteria....

The only difference is: case 1 affect you, case 2 don't.

People are just thinking that everything should resolve around their small world...

Now you're just being reductive and antagonistic.
Red doesn't have many ways to tutor in comparison to other colors, an ability like imperial recruiters nowadays would amount to rare especially in red. Discard is everywhere in black, it's kind of blacks thing. And we've had white cards just like this in the past, Ranger of Eos comes to mind and hes a rare. Tutor effects are powerful, and WotC tries to keep them sparse. Discard is everywhere and it should be displayed across all rarities.

On a side note, I like this card. I want it.

  • posted a message on Judges sue Wizards of the Coast
I can't imagine much is going to come of this except the aforementioned Wizards distancing themselves from anything that looks like "payment" for the work judges do. Nothing good is going to come of this, is there? Either the judges somehow beat a multi-million dollar international corporation at legalese and back WOTC into a corner of having to pay more wages, suddenly restricting the amount/availability of judges (cause what company wants to pay more wages). Or WOTC wins and effectively silences any more dissenters when they ban anyone that sided with the judges.

This SOUNDS like it falls into a legal grey area, still feels like Wizards and the TOs are cheating the system, legal or not.

I'm wondering about how many cards we'll get for this set with new art. I'm sure most of the older, more beloved cards will get new art, and some that have ended up in EDH supplements and FTV will just be added in with that updated art. But how many cards do you think they could easily give updated art to?

More average ETB tap lands. And yea it does seem like they've done away with the "gain 1 life" clause for these lands like we saw in khans, which is kinda sad. Confused as to why we're seeing these take up an uncommon slot now, probably for limited reasons not that that makes sense.

Your existence is an affront to the Magic community.

"I have money so I get cards and you don't." Nice.

You don't care about the game. You care about your personal enjoyment - in the most self-centered of ways - be it at the expense of others or not.

But you don't even want to enjoy the game. You just want to have nice cards. But you fail to realize, in your delusional self-entitlement, that nice cards aren't as such when their intended purpose is moot, and as a result, their value to you worthless.

Have fun being alone for the rest of your miserable excuse for a life.

Don't feed the troll, dude. He's not worth it.

But yea, the whole "poor people need to get their grubby hands away from my investment/money/cards" mentality that keeps creeping into these price discussions is rather sad. As much as I'd like to see this game in its many forms be enjoyed by all, plenty of other people on this thread has offered up the mere idea of accessibility and been shot down by the "they're a business", "What, you want your $20 to get you 4 copies of every card?" arguments (if you can call them that.) The amount of money required to play at a tournament is ludicrous and by the divisiveness of this thread it should be apparent that it has become a real problem.

I get it, they keep getting new players, great. They keep making more money, sure whatever, go them. I would just like to see a post from the mothership that doesn't read "Hasbro demands your tithes, Feed Hasbro"

But seriously, more wizards cash grabs, yada yada. They could fix the barrier to entry with some actual effort on their part and less appetite wetting sets like these. I'd love to wake up to see my FoWs are worth $1, with all these collectors and "make more money, poor people" elitists weeping over their worthless collections. Finally reducing magic to what it is, a good card game they should be enjoying. These discussions have become this tired back and forth of "it's a game" "no, its money" and it's sad.

I don't own any FoW's nor do I play anything besides pauper for legacy with friends. Sold all my expensive legacy material (Not Alpha/Beta stuff) off a couple years ago and put it towards a down payment on a house. Like it or not, WotC uses their intellectual property to make money for their corporate overlords, and charging $10 a pack to people like me who will pay it is a great way to monetize these upper-echelon intellectual properties like FoW's and Rishadan Ports and Tarmogoyfs.

The failure is that people of your ilk don't realize that MTG isn't just a card game any more, and in reality, after Beta, it never really was just a card game. Today, because of 20+ years of excellent IP management, it is a diverse asset that appeals to players, collectors and speculators and earns millions of dollars a year in profits. Additionally, MTG itself, as a product and IP, is probably worth around a billion dollars, if not more. They clearly know what they're doing, and they're still experiencing double digit growth, so as somebody who owns Hasbro stock, I hope they keep on doing whatever they have been doing.

    "... Money, money, money, money"

But back to what I've been reading from some of the people who enjoy playing the game, this could be a huge opportunity for Wizards (that they will ultimately squander). but here's hoping to all the kids who excitedly spend their mom's $20 for one pack and get to open a foil Karakas or something equally sweet. Cheers for the few moments of joy in this sea of disappointment Wizards has been filling since "my ilk" became secondary to their corporate overlords.

Wizards constantly makes these statements about how they're "doing this for the players" or "We want to make the players happy," and I'm still waiting to see it.

I'm curious, I haven't been back to my LGS since the full spoiler (was a little too friendly with libations this weekend) and I don't really peruse other MTG websites/forums. What has been the reaction to the full set? Is it similar to what's been discussed here or are other groups more optimistic? Less? Are stores all sold out or are the owners keeping a straight face while they scream internally about all this inventory that isn't moving?

Or did everyone just go "meh" and start speculating about Origins?

Now you're overreaching. Might as well make on-demand playsets. 4x Tarmogoyf for $4.

Yeah, that sounds about right, seeing as tarmogoyf should have never been a mythic in the first place.

Besides, printing those ridiculous staples at mythic did nothing to the prices for MM1, how could we expect anything less from this travesty?
What's that? Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf, and Vendilion Clique became more expensive AFTER MM1!? Say it ain't so!
Why would all those silly little players complain? They can just use less expensive cards to make worse decks! Modern Juniors is all about making budget decks cheaper, not to lower the price of cards people ACTUALLY PLAY.

$800 for a playset of anything isn't going to help the game, unless we're talking pesos.
