My name is Nathaniel Thompson and I recently passed my level 2 test at GP Kansas City. I'm located in central Arkansas and will do my best to fill the shoes of our former L2 who moved on to SCG. Feel free to contact me for anything you may need regarding MtG in the state of Arkansas. I look forwards to working with my fellow Arkansan players in the future.
I have Champion of the Parish out with two +1/+1 counters and getting an additional +1/+1 from Adaptive Automaton, making Champion a 4/4. My opponent Slagstorm's the board. He argues that Slagstorm kills Champion of the Paris due to him losing the additional +1/+1 boost. My argument is that Champion stays alive because Slaggy hit all creatures at the same time, and the 3 damage dealt leaves Champ alive with 1. Thanks in advance for the help! Also, any official ruling someone can pull up on this would be greatly appreciated as well.
Your Champion of the Parish will die, you are correct though that all damage is dealt at once, but the damage is marked on the creature until the cleanup step. Toughness of 3, 3 damage, creatre dies.
Umezawa's Jitte - The best that didn't get insta-banned. Skullclamp - Quite possibly better than Jitte, and did get insta-banned. Loxodon Warhammer - Extremely potent, provides massive life swings. Sword of Fire and Ice - Repeatable card advantage. Yes please. Sword of Light and Shadow - See above. Cranial Plating - More situational, depends on how many artifacts you have; can be ludicrous in the right deck, so it's here. Basilisk Collar - Cheap, effective, turns even Birds of Paradise into a daunting blocker. Whispersilk Cloak - Relatively expensive for the effect, but you have more time in EDH to use it; put this on a General and your opponents have serious problems.
Agree with pretty much everything here, but wonder about Basilisk Collar - Cheap, effective, turns even Birds of Paradiseinto a daunting blocker. Birds is still a 0/1, deathtouch won't happen without damage.
Usually when I play casual, it is a big multiplayer game. And usually in those types of games a 1 for 1 trade doesnt get quite as much value, because there is that third guy sitting there with his lands still intact.
Something like Sol Ring... or Black Vise... would be broken enough.
A friend of mine has his very old land destruction deck, 4 strip mines, 4 sinkhole's. The deck has enough LD to grief a 5 man multiplayer. It is fun to play once in a while, but if every game was like that it would not be very fun IMO.
Kodama's Reach and Sakura-Tribe Elder would be fun with Landfall shenanigans. Of course they'd have to be functional reprints due to their block-specific names, but meh.
Scapeshift would be absolutely bonkers with landfall as well.
I think Scapeshift would be a little much, Valakut combo already has enough power without making it Extended strong.
Counter for Hexmage, Bitterblossom... I guess you could side Repeal or something? You have much more board pressure than they do and your counters are all pretty effective against Hexmage and their other "do things" spells. If they have the combo turn 2 and you don't have spell snare, you're in for a world of hurt... if they don't go off as fast as possible or if you're playing repeal (like some have), it doesn't seem like a hard matchup.
Wonderful, thank you. I was hoping to get into Extended and this is one of my favourite decks and I was not quite sure how it would do.
What do you like, Team America Control? Captain America Control? Steve Rogers Control? It's barely angelfire anymore, I guess we should just say UWr. Lame.
I think Miss America is a pretty funny name for it. Or Union Jack.

Have a great M14 prerelease folks.

Sure Sleep taps all enemy critters, but instant speed with a alternate cost is pretty spiffy.
I cringed when I saw that effect. But it would make for an interesting turn.
Umm, out of the board for mirror lets side this in. Boom, edict sweeper sliver, I win. All the EDH sliver Timmies would cry.
Actually playing AIR just sucks, next game 1st turn Moon. I guess I need work, any help would be appreciated.
