I run a deck very similar to this in my Planeswalker deck on MTGO. Whoever said that aggro-control was the way to go is entirely correct. 16 creatures is what i would consider the "sweet-spot". You play aggressively when you have a fast hand, defensive if not.
I would play 16 creatures (Bear, Lord, Image + 4 others), 6 draw, 8 counters, 4 bounce, 24 lands and 2 slots for tech.
I personally play 12 counters and 4 draw but I am a control freak.
You need Brainstorm and fetches man...what happens when you have 3 jace's in hand? You need to have a way to sculpt you hand (and minds lol) with Jace.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually the "Announcing" or "Cards" days just like Fridays are the "Wallpaper" days for Arcana, historically.
Disclaimer - I am not saying I have any more inside information about this product than you or that this Tuesday or Thursday there will be any such announcement. Sorry for the misleading comment
Preventing turn 1 and turn 2 combos from going off makes you sick? Modern doesn't have the protection of Legacy to allow 0 cards on the ban list which it sounds like you want. They did a good job by preventing stupidly broken decks into the format.
With so many decks gutted, it just seems like predictability is what they were trying to avoid.
Aether Vial
Ancient Den
Dark Depths
Glimpse of Nature
Golgari Grave-Troll
Great Furnace
Hypergenesis
Seat of the Synod
Sensei's Divining Top
Skullclamp
Stoneforge Mystic
Tree of Tales
Vault of Whispers
I'm sorry, but with only one playable free counterspell in the format (MM), there is nothing broken about control in this format. Jace is a 4cmc sorcery speed spell that is game breaking if it resolves. There are many spells that fit that bill.
Dredge is fine without Golgari and I can deal with Thopter/Sword.
There's no point in having 4 Fact or Fictions with 4 Jace's. Trust me, I've played with both and I've always found myself not needing the extra cards. In fact, I would discard FoF ALOT.
The last update to the primer was for MBS, aka quite some time ago. NPH had a few cards considered, but ultimately none were added.
For an update of new Commander and M12 cards following are considered:
- Spell Crumple: Very similar to Hinder, no relevant difference unless the deck plays a lot shuffle effects. Personally I still prefer Dissipate.
- Sphinx of Uthuun: Budget finisher. Allthough it comes with a FoF, it has no way to protect itself and on top of that costs seven, meaning you need 9 mana open if you want to have a counter back-up.
Currently I'd add neither.
Yes I can see your reasoning but I know that Hinder is up there. Spell Crumple edges it out I believe due to the fact it recurs.
I've also always wanted to ask you about Spell Snare. Yes, it's a legacy staple but 2-drops are pretty big everywhere...
So 3 playable cards from INN...not too bad considering the "powering down" of standard.
You could have at least made Modern as a parameter...

Consider me convinced!!!

It won't.

Just my .02...it's your thread.
