I was unaware that people were NOT running 4 Goblin Guides.

He is a STAPLE. Run him. I've never played the deck without him but he has done SO much for me. Also, he is NEVER sided out.

(Which reminds me. I once won a 5 turn game with 1 mana. The only things I cast were 3x Goblin Guides, an Inquisition and a Bolt. Good times...)

Could you discuss how you sideboard?

    Sure thing.
Postmortem Lunge - The Lunges are a way to "counter" removal (especially sorcery speed type removal). They are basically Kiln Fiend/Death's Shadow/Immolating Souleater number 5-8 (with haste). The surprise factor of this card has won me tons of games post Sideboard.

Marrow Shards - Shards are for dealing with weenie decks stronger potentially faster than our own. I usually end up paying 2 life around turn 3-4 to shut them down. (Honestly, match-ups against Tempered Steel usually come down to 1. Who gets to start and 2. Does he see a Tempered Steel before I see a Marrow Shards?)

[Sidenote] Against the aggro match-up, it's fairly convenient that our opponents tap out nearly every turn they can. This makes getting that 3 card win very possible. (3 card combo being a mix of Kiln Fiend/Death's Shadow + Tainted Strike + Mutagenic Growth. You can see how Lunge can be very help in 1) Letting us block when we usually wouldn't. 2) Giving us our finisher with Haste the second time around.

Dismember, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat - Honestly, I am reconsidering these cards. While they are good, I think they can be replaced by Spellskite. Usually I am more concerned about Protecting my own creatures rather than removing those of my opponent. I tend to dismiss them as blockers by a timely Apostle's Blessing or Lightning Bolt.

Usually, the cards I side out the most are Flings, Immolating Souleaters and maybe Inquisitions depending. Generally Fling and Souleaters don't work as well against weenie Aggro which are the decks biggest problem.
So my Sideboard is still in the works but so far, it has been working well.

I understand these spells are intrinsic to the theme of the deck however if they are causing you game losses perhaps it is a good idea to re-evaluate and see if there are any better cards for those slots.

Well, let's put it this way. They may have caused 2 game losses, but without them, I would not have my other 8 wins. Honestly, a lot of those two loses came down to my own miscalculating. Either I could have prevented some damage that I didn't or I cast some spells incorrectly, etc.

I'm surprised this deck has been mostly looked over. I've still been playing it and beating decks that have proven themselves again and again. Goblins are probably the only horrible matchup for me and it seems like its still 50/50 and depends entirely on the coin flip. Valakut is easy. Twin is a bit harder, but still easy. Tempered Steel is easy. What gives? Do people not play this because it looks janky?

I know right? This whole thread has died right when the deck is at its strongest. With Papa Jace gone, we have nothing to worry about past turn 4 (if it makes it that far). I'm destroying decks left and right and recently, the only 2 things I have lost to at all are UW Venser + Dignitary Control and Goblins. Goblins really are a coin toss though. Usually decided by who gets to go first. I am running Marrow Shards in my 75 now to deal with Goblins and Tempered Steel. I'm also considering bringing in Spellskite against them.

So I played this deck at FNM again for fun today...

Went 4-1. Seems the deck won't accept anything but 1st or 2nd place.
    I played against
    1) Mono-blue Mill (2-0)
    2) UB Tezzeret (2-0)
    3) WW Tempered Steel (2-1)
    4) UW Control with Venser Combo (0-2)
    5) GW Infect (2-0)

The deck doesn't cease to impress me and everyone who sees it in action.

My current list looks something like:

The only matches I lost were due to being at 2 life, leaving me unable to play my much needed Mutagenic Growth. Both games I lost against UW Control came down to just that. I never "lost" a game. I made sure to kill myself everytime.

Is it just me or is spellskites and livewire lash just wrong in this deck?

Yes, they are wrong for the deck, you are correct.

That's why apostle's blessing and spellskite are auto-includes.

    Fixed.

Act of Aggression. Act of Treason.
I think the cards should be in the 75 (if not in the 60).

I have been playing them in my Vampire list and boy are they useful. Stealing big threats and smacking my opponent with them has never felt better. All these equipments make it all the sweeter. Turning opponent's attacks into 2 for 1's in our benefit is also very nice.

Also, Act of Aggression saves us from Splinter Twin by either stealing their Win combo, or stealing their Spellskite (if they redirect) which in turn lets us redirect their combo again, halting things for a turn.

This is all without mentioning the synergies these cards have with our utility creatures like Viscera Seer.

The two cards are great options for lists that are looking for more aggressive "removal". They are also a great way to get around bigger creatures equipped with a Sword of Feast and Famine as our burn won't reach it.

Yeah, there are some things in there that were mostly for ****s and gigs but ended up not hurting the deck. The Reservoirs were there to play around with the Sire's. I was considering losing them in favor of Act of Aggression.

So, I built this deck for a buddy and he went undefeated at my FNM (I say that with a little resentment because he took home a Sword of War and Peace and foil Obliterator after beating me in the finals lol)

The list was simple, almost budget.

It was INSANE how much pressure this deck put on. Every turn starting turn 2 turned into an uphill climb for his opponents to try and catch up. He would swing for 2. Then 5. Then 10.

If opponents did find ways to remove threats, Precursor always seemed to reapply even more pressure. I can't tell you how nuts the deck preformed.

The buddy I built the deck for is a 10 year old who debuted at my store yesterday and blew the other 20 players away.

Any thoughts? I've seen lists running Glint Hawks and Mox Opals and what not but honestly, I haven't seen any of them preform as well as this did. It played good players and competitive decks.

You know Arc Trail is a Sorcery, right?

    (lol)

After reading all of text, that is all he gets from it. Granted, it's a pretty important thing lol.

Won Game Day with this, beating Caw Blade x2, bUG poison, and Splinter Exarch combo, all 2-0. I was lucky not to hit any red decks and comboed out turn 3 or 4 almost every game.
The list is a little weird since it's just what I have, but it was awesome to play and impressed a lot of people for some reason. I never used Death's Shadow, I guess he could be fine with hex parasite but it was Goblin Bushwacker that made him awesome in the old Ad Nauseam aggro deck.

How often did Not of the World work? I'd image opponents would kill a Kiln Fiend in response to a buff, therefore not allowing his power to ever get high (if they plan on killing him with instant speed at all, that is.)

I really hope that doesn't happen.

I don't like HoN or LoL because for one, they aren't DotA, but also because the graphics are "too" fancy. I like the simplicity of the WCIII engine. However, I do prefer the improved game mechanics that HoN and LoL have. Things are more fluid and there is less glitching. I hope DotA 2 does just that. Improve game mechanics while not trying to make everything sparkle and shine (unless it's supposed to).

I've been looking at a lot of the phyrexian pain type decks recently and it seems to me like a splash of blue would be very helpful as it would give you access to distortion strike and soaring seacliff to insure that their creatures don't block you. I don't know how strained the manabase of this deck ends up being, but if it's got wiggle room I might even consider playing the seacliffs even without a blue splash as a 0 mana sorcery to give him flying for a turn.
    just a thought...

The Mana base is VERY strained and there is nearly no wiggle room. Considering you hardly ever want to see more then 4 lands, having one of those be something you can't use to play anything would suck. I'm sure many times you'd find yourself casting it because you want the mana, not because you want to fly.

Also, it's NOT a 0 mana sorcery. Gitaxian Probe is a 0 mana cost sorcery. Gitaxian Probe gives Kiln Fiend +3/+0. In this particular deck, you want to cast spells.

    Renegade Doppelganger lol.

If you have 2 out when you drop a Blightsteel or Wurmcoil, you get to swing with 2 of them that turn~!
