The fact that Launch Party is an instant is a fairly big advantage over Bone Splinters too (though the additional 3 mana it costs in comparison is not insignificant). Being able to Launch your creature that they're trying to remove in response to their removal is a pretty nice play that helps make up for the general 2-for-1 your opponent will normally get from you casting the card.
Also, chump blocking, then saccing the chump to kill another attacker.
I don't have any specific ruling to back me up, but I believe the rule is that if a planeswalker has < 1 loyalty it is "Put into its owners graveyard", so since it is not really being "Desroyed" it will still die.
I was playing Polymorph deck. My deck had 2 Iona, Shield of Emeria in it. He was playing a Red/Black deck. I had one Iona out and had Black called. I was way ahead but thought to myself, why don't I use my other Polymorph and lock him out of his other color just for the lulz. Well yeah, forgot Iona was legendary. So I screwed myself.
Yep, the reason is that removing the 8 counters is a cost. And costs are paid and they 'resolve' before the abilities go on the stack. This way, by the time the ultimate ability resolves, she is already in your graveyard.
Tragic Slip is a big problem for her. If someone slips her, she can't even sack a human to get an extra toughness because then Morbid triggers for the Slip and she gets -13/-13 instead. She won't see much standard play because of this.
I've been running a single Sever the Bloodline in my Solar Flare mainboard and I think it's a homerun.
1. You can dump it with alchemy and still get a use out of it.
2. Handles Wurmcoils like a champ.
3. Handles Lord of the Unreal that has been copied by one of more Phantasmal Images.
4. Handles tokens.. (White Sun's Zenith, Army of the Damned, etc)
5. Handles Sun Titan that has been copied by Phantasmal Images.
6. Great removal for the mirror because they can't recur their creatures.
This card has been the MVP in a lot of close matches, what do you all think.
You cast Volt Charge on Phantasmal Image. Before your spell resolves, Phantasmal Image triggers his sac ability and that goes on the stack on top of your spell. His Image dies when it resolves, then your spell tries to resolve but is countered because the creature it was targetting is no longer valid. This counters your spell so it never resolves and you do not proliferate.
When you use mirror works, you're putting in a copy of the creature, not casting a copy of the spell. Cascade says when you play this spell, so it does not trigger for the copy.
Also, chump blocking, then saccing the chump to kill another attacker.
