Metamind posted a message on [KLD][CUBE] Smuggler's CopterAnother reason why copter is so good is how well it controls plaeswalkers. Even when your opponent has copter without any creatures out, laying down planeswalkers and ticking them down is dangerous.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion -

d0rsal posted a message on [KLD][CUBE] Smuggler's Copter@ Fredo the best way i can describe it, is that it gives all ur creatures "haste", provided they have @ least 1 power of course, b/c you cast them, tap em to crew, swing for 3 in the air & you get to draw a card. i find all of those things very useful in winning games of magic =)Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
asmallcat said that they ranked clamp higher but i like the copter better; i'd rather my threats not die & still draw cards. clamp is really a combo enabler, than an actual equipment/vehicle.
the reason i mentioned that to dschumm, was b/c he said that he removed the swords from his cube b/c he was tired of "protection". i believe that "protection" can lead to some un-fun game interactions, so i try to avoid those when i'm trying to have fun w/ my friends. i dont ever want someone to have a bad time playing a game w/ their buddies, b/c to be honest none of us has enuff free time to do the things we enjoy... thats my approach to EDH as well, sure i could make my decks "better" (read more competitive) but i want my friends to have a good time too. that being said, if we're playing in a tournament, then all bets are off, once $$ is paid, then i dont really care about my opponents having fun b/c i'm trying to win, its just a difference in mentality based on the situation -

Patrunkenphat7 posted a message on [CUBE][ZNR] Crawling BarrensThis card has been an absolute house in the lower power Arena Cube. It convinced me to try it in 720 Vintage Cube. I underestimated how often you can sneak in one activation during the game, and then every activation past the first is very threatening.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion -

tylorlilley posted a message on Persist ComboAfter being initially skeptical I brought in both Kiki combo in UR and Persist combo in WBG to my 540 power cube this summer. It has been a pretty nice change - not a slam dunk by any means but also not something we want to switch away from any time soon. I think the more of the creature combos you run at a time the easier it is to justify some of the combo inclusions and cards that get better with creature based combos like Sevinne's Reclamation and Birthing Pod effects.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
One thing I'd be curious to hear opinions on - we are currently experimenting with cutting the two biggest persist enablers - Melira, Sylvok Outcast and Vizier of Remedies to see if there was enough other support cards now to not have to include these two that are just a Grizzly Bear and a Goblin Piker in any other deck. I'm not sure happy to be playing Solemnity right now either, for that matter.
We're trying this because we've always much preferred the cards like Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit that can do a bit more even in a non-persist deck, and there have been a LOT of enablers of this style printed in the last year or so that have more general applications (like doubling up as support for aggressive decks in these colors - my cube supports green aggro as well so that's especially enticing). The more niche inclusion of new Heliod + Kitchen Finks was mentioned above, but also in the last year or so we've had Good-Fortune Unicorn, Grumgully, the Generous, Rhythm of the Wild, Renata, Called to the Hunt. Even Luminous Broodmoth helps here!
Our results have been mixed and I am curious to hear what others would think of supporting persist combo without those two pieces... its very possible we aren't quite at the density of needed redundant pieces to be able to do away with them, but we are much closer than we were a year ago, and I think this archetype might appeal to more people who were on the fence about adding it (like I was) if we could get away from playing SUCH specific support cards.

Visserdrix posted a message on [CUBE][CMD] - Court of GraceElspeth Knight Errant not anywhere close to cuttable in my experience. Elspeth is top 5 white card in my list only behind swords, path, journey to nowhere, and thalia, heretic cathar in terms of maindeck and winrate. Top 50 card in the entire 360 cube list.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
This card is good but surely you have some weaker white fours to cut. Patrunkenphat7 why not cut something like archon of sun's grace which seems pretty rough? or even quarantine field? 4 mana o-ring seems terribly slow for your list even if you are pushing an enchantments theme. -

I don't think it's an important card for aggro. It could see play as a curve-topper, but when building an aggro deck this is very low on my priority list so most likely I won't pick it unless there isn't much else to pick (and even then it might not make the cut). For a burn deck, I think the monarch effect is much likelier to backfire, in which case you don't get enough for your 5 mana investment so I'm hesitant to include it as well.
So this is a card for red control, and some midrange decks - and even if you play it and have the mana there are plenty of board states where dropping this is just a bad idea. And it's not a key card for any deck.
IDK, I'm just not sure it merits a slot and wouldn't know what to cut for it. Am I so off-base on this one?
I wonder if enough of these effects can justify a monarch build around?
Perhaps these are the top end needed for janky creature midrange decks to compete with control decks...
Focus on cheap disruption and cards that can protect the monarch like blade splider/bitterblossom.
These cards are very busted on rate if you can maintain the monarch.
Probabily not, but something to think about.
Monarch itself can be a build subtheme, doesn't necessarily have to be around courts. Just have monarch cards and be well positioned to fight the monarch subgame. -

Breathe1234 posted a message on [CUBE][CMR] Includes & Testing ThreadPosted in: Cube Card and Archetype DiscussionQuote from Resarox »I don't really have the cuts sorted out, but since I don't get to play either way, I'll stay in the theorycrafting regime for now regarding this set.
One thing I have convinced myself of though is that I restrict Monarch effects to Red and White, serving as exclusive ways to draw cards for the colors with the most trouble drawing cards. I am tinkering with a way of introducing Big Red along the way, giving my Cube access to Red or Boros Control, utilizing the Monarch effects we got from this set alongside the one we have (Palace Jailer).
I might just let the size of my cube grow (provided the power level across non-power 9 cards or more or less even) - it opens up new archetypes. I'm all for powerful cards, but it gets a bit ridiculous if every single game opens up Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Channel and the opponent could do nothing.
Fixing is my limiting factor right now - the pathway lands allows me to grow my cube by another 30-40 cards. -

wtwlf123 posted a message on [CUBE][CMR] HullbreacherThis does a lot of cool stuff. Another engine for the Narset/Leovold plan, another playable for flash decks, backdoor goodies for the artifact.dec, randomly useful in ramp, and maybe more importantly right now, it's a cool answer to the Monarch. I might test this out if I can find room for it.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion -

Seems like a decent blue tempo card, as well as fitting in the Narset/wheels deck? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Two potential role players you didn't mention:
Bastion of Remembrance: looks like a solid inclusion for cubes supporting aristocrats. Provides a resilient aristocrats effect and still offers a body.
Yorion, Sky Nomad: companion ability is flavor text, but should be solid to back-breaking in a blink deck.

Crazy, crazy card.

Even in normal circumstances, I'm very optimistic about Uro though. Love the design.

Maybe not for everyone but it works for us.
