Anyone planning on testing this one out?
It jumped out at me as a card that could turn out to play better than it looks. Thassa, Deep-Dwelling has taught me how valuable repeatable blink is, and while this card never becomes a creature, that effect has won me enough games that I wouldn't mind having access to it in white, the primary blink color.

Jul 13, 2021To be honest this is the first card in either AFR set that makes me somewhat excited to give it a try. As mblieb says Steed is pretty broken with the new 'free' evoke creatures like Solitude, Grief and Fury, but it looks plenty powerful in its 'fair' mode with some random creature with an ETB trigger (plenty of those in cube). Going to give this a shot.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion

The cube is currently sitting around 640 cards and supports a number of combo archetypes such as storm, turboland, polymorph and persist.
Apr 24, 2021Haven't shared anything since... *checks*... wow, 2016 apparently. Time flies.Posted in: The Cube Forum
Anyway, since I now own a scanner I went to the trouble of scanning all the cards I altered through the years (well, those I still cube with at least) and uploaded them to CubeCobra. Feel free to have a look! There's 220 of them in the cube right now (6 of which double-sided). 2020 was the suckiest year ever but it was a good one for altering magic cards

Not a huge fan of multi-color removal spells in general, and boy are there a lot of those in Strixhaven. Even not being a fan, I'm looking at 2 cards to add in this category: Rip Apart and Prismari Command.
Good point about Plargg and Augusta not fitting very well in the same deck. That makes it an odd hybrid: it's hybrid in the cube but not in your deck. We'll see what to do with that If one or both play well enough it could be good enough, testing will tell.
I also agree that magecraft has a very high potential for cube, but it looks like all the removal has pushed some powerful magecraft cards off your list. I'm looking at testing Archmage Emeritus and Witherbloom Apprentice which both have very powerful magecraft triggers, and maybe even Professor Onyx which is expensive but has an even more ridiculous magecraft trigger. I think Rowan, Scholar of Sparks/Will, Scholar of Frost could also be a good inclusion to bolster spells heavy decks in larger cubes.
Mar 28, 2021Being forced to foretell and then wait a turn to cast it for XXW is kind of a drag. If you find a good window to prepare the foretell it will be a good card, but as a topdeck it doesn't feel great.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Mar 28, 2021Not feeling this one, although it's a fun idea to give a +2 ability to a planeswalker that doesn't normally have that. I don't think it's interesting and/or powerful enough to make it in cube though.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Mar 28, 2021Fredo posted a message on [STX] [CUBE] Valentin, Dean of the Vein // Lissette, Dean of the RootFun but not very powerful hybrid golgari card. Valentin requiring 2 mana and an opponent's creature to die makes it hard to use (as you can't abuse sacrifice effects). Lisette is decent and can do work in a shell abusing +1/+1 counters, but also quite fair.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
In general this card seems suitable only for lower power level cubes, but a hybrid card with interesting effects like this is nice to have in cube land.
Mar 28, 2021Very cool and eminently cubeable effect. Could be used to give redundancy to Doublin Seasons type archetypes for cubes that want to run something like that.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Indeed hard to find room for with simic being chock full of bombs.
Mar 28, 2021Fredo posted a message on [STX][CUBE] Augusta, Dean of Order // Plargg, Dean of ChaosThe rummager side is ok, although it doesn't excite me. But Augusta... she looks quite great to me. On the offense, it's a battlecry effect that's on immediately, and you can selectively give your attacking creatures vigilance and a toughness buff instead if you want. It even untaps other creatures as well, so you can tap utility creatures twice (Mother of Runes or mana dorks for instance). Augusta seems to offer something new and powerful; why is no-one talking about her? Seems like a card any deck with creatures should be able to use well, from aggro to midrange to control. It just looks like an incredibly flexible card to me, both in what decks it goes into as during play.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
This is effectively a hybrid card too, so that makes it far easier to include.
