IoK and Duress remove answers from thier hand. Mana Leak stops answers we can't get out. Unsummon removes blockers, or bounces our rats and lets us replay them for another counter.

T1: Swamp, IoK/Duress an answer out
    T2: Island, Thrumming Bird
T3: Swamp, Ichor Rat, attack with bird (2 counters)
T4: Distortion Strike, some combiination of vampire bite/virulent swipe/another distortion stike to get another +4 boost, swing in for lethal poisoin counters.

You could easily take out 4 of the hand disruption cards and slot if 4 adventurers gear. Or some other cheat infect / proliferate card we have yet to see. Or a preordain to fix your hand, a few ad draws cold cost you the game with the deck.

The clone is a silly thing to even consider. So is that dumb dragon. Nothing in the deck should be more than 3 mana. This is an all in deck, either you poison them out quick, or they're going to win.

I alslo like that the deck look really affordable.

    Box.
You have a good chance to get other Titans, plus you'll get more staples. Makes infinitely more sense.

He can get a playset of staples for $25 and a garaunteed titan for $50 and have $25 left over. Sounds much more sensible to me.

In the same boat as the OP, won a raffle and bought a FTV Relic for MSRP. Have no interest in the cards. Would it be beter to sell the box unopened, or two open it and sell the singles?

Alternatively, I may look at trading it to someone for a box of something.

Yeah remind me to dump these to anyone ASAP.

Hot commodity at the pre-release/shortly after release. Borderline played Planeswalker in about 3+ months.

I agree. I think he's the new Lotus Cobra/Warren Instigator. Intsa-sell at the pre release if I happen to get any. I don't think he'll see any play outside of silly combo decks and EDH

No UW control deck is going to bounce a mana intensive card like a PW and then replay him, leaving them tapped out or suceptible to a mana leak.

We continue to go "But burn and creatures" because our analyzed, thought-out answers to address your problems are ignored so you can be 'right'. You are not debating, you are ignoring facts set out in front of you, and manipulating other facts, in order to seem right.

No, you are so convinced you are right you that you ignore the questions put before you and claim to have dismissed them.

I mean, AFTER that fact that we have posted COUNTLESS times that while there ARE PW answers in standard, but our point was that there wasn't targeted removal for them, and the number of cards that interact with them is vanishingly small compared to other permanent types, you STILL say "What about hexmage, pulse, and o-ring?"

You're righ about one thing: this is going in circles. You're unwilling to discuss the topic and trying to have the discussion with you has just turned into shouting at a wall at this point.

let's say the guy keeps playing, and the DCI puts two and two together. was it worth it to the TO to keep hosting this guy if it ultimately costs him his ability to sanction? was it worth it to the guy if he gets suspended longer, or banned?

Up to the store owner to decide.

i learned at a recent prerelease at my regular store that a local high-rating player, who i know personally, was allowed to register with a fake DCI card - the TO wasn't in the store, and the individual pressured his staff to allow him to do it to protect his rating. i told the TO that, if it ever happened again in a tournament i was participating in, and i found out about it, i'd report it to the DCI immediately. i spoke to the guy soon after and told him how i felt it was unfair of him to do that, for a variety of reasons. it hasn't happened again to my knowledge...

    And that helped who exactly?

This blind allegiance to anything DCI says is really pretty interesting. You could get a good anhropology paper out of it.

and that keeping the game healthy is some sort of side-effect

And not letting people play the game is healthy for the game?

    1) Magic the Gathering is a card game. Friday Night Magic is a casual event for this card game. It is not a be-all-end-all life changing experience that's internal integrity needs to be upheld at all costs even at the price of friendships, family & happiness.

    2) Even if it WAS a super serious must-root-out-all-cheaters event that was so astronomically important some people may try to convince you that the end is nigh if you allow a banned player to play, then it is the TO's responsibility to make sure banned players don't play. They are on a ban list, they are easily located before every event to make sure that you're event is legit. It is the TO's responsibility to make the kid not play. You're trying to force the responsibility on a kid who has no place in inserting himself into the situation. He does not have some moral obligation to turn his friend in as if he's a criminal.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

You are not a psychiatrist. Don't toss terms like that around like you know where they apply.

You're right, I'm not a psychiatrist yet, I'm currently finishing up my degree is psychology with a specialization in social work, and am trained and certified to tutor kids with Aspergers and mild autism, and do so on a weekly basis. So I know what I'm talking about in that area. Seing the world only in black and white, being unable to read between the lines, and being unable to judge a situation based on any data other than concrete rules, are all signs of the disease. This thread has a lot of that.

As an aside, if you're in a position where you find yourself getting anxiety, worried, or your concern over a DCI rating or ruling is affecting your appetite, sleep patterns, or mood, I strongly suggest you put the cards down and go see a counselor. I've seen some very obsessive people suffer some really negative things based on thier overattachment to stuff like this. This isn't a troll, or an attack, but just some advice from a guy who has seen kids start hurting themselves over stuff like this. If you thnk you might be going down that path, tell someone, it's OK to talk to someone and get help.

Unhinged wasn't a very funny set. Unglued was much better. 1/2 mana and 1/2 P/T's aren't funny.

This thread is not about the quality of Un-sets, and I'd like to keep it from getting derailed as such.

Pretty crummy to see someone getting bettr than you at something and automatically assuming he is cheating or stealing.

Maybe he, you know, just got better? He could have started drafting, you can get loads of cards really quick and amass a lot of play skill, he could be playing MTGO to improve, all the best decks are out there for anyone to look at and there are tons of discussion on the card choices for the deck and why they are there, it's not that hard to get to a very high level of skill fairly quickly. And at 13, what the heck else does he have to do with his time?

Especially looking at the deck choices he is playing, netdecking is 95% of it. It take almost no skill to pilot a dominant Merfolk deck. Elfball practically plays itself. It he went from noone to playing top level Pox or TEPS, that' one thing, but anyone can win a legacy tourney with a merfolk deck. Aether vial in merfolk, play merfolk, swing whenever you can.

Assume you will get no titans in the box, so you ned to decide, what do you want more, a bunch of M11 cards to fill out a collection but you may never use 90% of them, or two cards you will use right away.

Personally, I would buy a playset of comons and uncommons off eBay for $25, and then spend the rest on a Titan and other stuff you need. Most of the rares and mythics in M11 are terrible.

From what we've read, neither the T.O. nor the other players know about what's going on. I mean, if everyone knows about it and is okay with it, then that's one thing, but doesn't the player in question have an obligation to let them know?

If it's causing attendance to drop at the store because players don't want to play with him, I would tell the store owner about it.

A store that's A-Okay with treating the DCI like an annoying nanny, and ignoring any suspensions/bans that are put out because they don't agree with it. I can guarantee you that if my store disobeyed the DCI and only followed the rules and guidelines they chose, I'd find a new store.

OK. Apparently since people are still playing at the OP's store, no one cares.

That's akin to a driver having their license suspended for, say, numerous traffic violations, and then a certain part of the city saying "Screw the state, you can drive if you want man".

*sigh*. The DCI rules are not civil or criminal laws. Please stop making these downright silly comparisons.

I would appreciate it if you didn't bandy around insults like that. Saying people are being stubborn is one thing, but making light of a social disorder like it's just a funny little insult is very crude.

The level of social ignorance and lack of understanding of basic social structures and norms certainly fit my description.

That being said, I find it curious that you want judges to be present in order to prevent cheating, which I presumes having to deal with players whom do cheat, but don't feel that players who have been suspended should be allowed to play. Players are typically suspended for cheating and other pretty serious violations (such as physically assaulting another player), and if you feel judges should prevent cheating, why should we allow such a player to play in an event?
The judges shouldbe there so the players keep playing there, A cheating player can drive players away from a store, and no store owner wants that. It should be the store owner who decides who is ro isn't allowed to play in his store. Not some mad eup organization. The store owner is paying his mortgage with the profits he makes from selling things ot players. The DCI has no skin in the game, so screw 'em.

Apparently the store owner is OK with this guy playing, and I'm making the assumption that the other playersin the store don't care either, or they would have complained to the store owner.

    Quote from parinoid
I disagree with that statement, it causes harm to the person that was cheated/assaulted/etc. by the suspended player, because they where grievously wronged and the perpetrator is getting off scott free and ignoring any consequences of their actions. It's akin to a drunk driver having their license 'suspended' by the court and driving anyway. Them driving isn't hurting anyone directly, but it is indirectly harmful to the person they put in a wheelchair.
By supporting this player's actions, you are condoning cheating, assault, theft, racial vilification and a whole heap of other offenses that are cause for suspension.

Nothing the DCI could ever do to a player would be considered a "grevious wrong". And drunk drivers can get in car accidents and KILL PEOPLE. If you can't see the difference between committing a criminal act, and playing MTG, then I don't know what else to say

Man, the level of Aspergers you can get in here sometimes is frustrating.

    Cool it.

No, the game is losing sales, and Hasbro is trying to find out what they can do to stem the tide.

It's kind of fun to witness the decline of MTG as it's happening.

Useless card in a aggro poisoin deck. By the time you could attack with it, your opponent should be dead already.

Pretty much draft fodder. Useless mythic in anything else.

I think Vampire's Bite is one of the best suggestions in this forum... Distortion Strike + Vampires Bite on the same creature, the Rats for instance, is just insane. AND easily done on turn 4! That means this deck has a possible turn 4 win...

    Turn 1: Land.......
    Turn 2: Birds
Turn 3: Rats, swing with birds, 2 counters
Turn 4: Swing with birds and Rats, Distortion Strike + Vampire's Bite = 7 counters...

All we need is a way to give them just one more counter!

I have a feeling this deck type will be strong in tournaments, since all you have to do is deal 9 damage with rats, 10 without. (Or less, if you include that new instant Proliferate catrip card, and Contagion Clasp.)

YEah, I suggest vampire bite in the ichor rat thread. Distortion Strike, Vampire Bite, and Virulent Swipe are all the ramp you need.

Adding white for Venser wouldbe a bad more, Venser is a terrible card
