Cyan somehow persuading people to vote for others - things really haven't changed haha.

I'd say play in a normal, but there won't be one for quite some time. There will be a new mini in sign ups after Seppel's game fills though.

Only one signup at a time? Did the mafia playerbase contract greatly or something?

In another age, maybe. But a Seppel specialty seems like not the best choice to begin my comeback. ;-)

I've been meaning to get back into writing and hosting a game. With that in mind, I'd like to ask which of these setups people would like me to finish first - a game designed top-down from flavour, but which consequently I cannot quite promise *cough cough* balance with, or a semi-open setup with revealed rolenames that uses a kind of points system?

    Not enough info. What flavor?

Like, if it's War and Peace Mafia, or something incredibly obscure like My Favorite Animae Mafia, I'd vote for the Points thing. :p

You would like the points thing.

    Vote Axelrod, Vote Axelrod

    Vote Count: Axelrod -4-
    loran16, loran16

    Axelrod has been lynched.

Flavor please. Without the U of course :-P. Balance is overrated.

Iso, do minis need to be reviewed or something now? I have the game tentatively designed, so what do I need to do to get on the list?

Please don't reference on-going games. Smile

That said, you can't analyze Mafia behavior strictly with math.

Well you should use Bayesian analysis to analyze Mafia behavior, hard as it is. This does not mean assessing actual numbers to anything.

    I thought you were dead!

They never found my corpse. That should've been your first clue I was alive.

Sign me up for the mini hosting list:
    12 Players
    Starfighter Mafia
    Not too complex.

You don't need my hosting experience, I hope.

The fact that you refuse to say,

    "Hey I was wrong."

And I never talked about it then. I kept it to myself. I watched you say other rude things in this very thread about me. I only brought it up to facilitate a point. What you did was Cyber Bullying, it was wrong, and the fact that you think it was ok, says something about you.

Hey look I'm alive. Also, DV, can we talk about this rationally for a second?

First of all, the sig was something like 8 sigs ago from me (It was, if i recall correctly, involving Camp Tachronic signups, so 3 years ago now).

Second of all, here was something like how the sig went, as a copy/pasting of an AIM convo:
loran: Saw you signed up for Camp Tachronic Mafia
    Cyan: Yeah
loran: There's a nice group of guys signed up; AI,
    loran: Some One,
    loran: Andelijah,
    loran: Bilbro
    Cyan: Nice
    loran: Oh, wait, also....DV
    Cyan: ***

(Originally there weren't the astericks. After a mod PMed me, the word was replaced with astericks).

Now here's the thing - that sig? Isn't insulting. It was funny to me - that's why I posted it - but that's about it. So it showed that Cyan didn't like ya, so what? There's nothing against that in the forum. (Also Cyan wasn't calling you ***, if that even was an insult, he was calling the fact you were in the game derogatory. There's a difference). Cyan makes it clear who he doesn't like in this forum all the time.

tl;dr: The sig involved nothing insulting about you, other than expressing how Cyan thought about you - which again isn't an insult. Not offensive. Which is why the sig was fine after I removed the actual 3 letter word used.

The solution to long days is simple: aggressive deadlines.

You would say that wouldn't you.

Because it's annoying when the game can't start properly due to the lack of information, and silly when you realise information is something you create by talking and scumhunting and so on. There should be no need for mod interference if the players actually had the balls to take stances early on.

    [/pet peeve]

I don't disagree....but I find that without an external stimuli, you end up with day 1s that are way way too long. Make no mistake, discussion ALWAYS adds info and that always leads to scumhunting......but making day 1s more efficient is not a negative.

As far as N0s with kills, that's more or less been phased out here because there's no fun in joining a game and being killed before you're allowed to play. As far as non-kill N0s go, it's probably just that you have to design games with that difference in mind as you'll have one more round of power usage and non-kill night tends to heavily favor the town.

Personally I always liked N0 Kill games.....they alleviate the slow pace of day 1s by giving everyone info to talk about to start.

They suck for that one dead player - and sometimes for the Mod who has his favorite role killed N0 (RIP Arya Stark, Song of Ice and Fire Mafia :-( ) - but it helps alleviate the feeling that no one knows anything on D1.

N0 no-kill days are really annoying for scum.

Wasn't HP mafia the game you played to your scum meta, but got out of it cause you claimed mod confirmed masons with your scum buddy alpha?

Yah, the town designed foolproof way to win and let you get away with mason gambit.

    Yes.

    in unrelated news:

    Hi Loran.
Also Hi. But I'm still retired.

    EDIT:

There is no "general rule" posted anywhere. You guys can't just expect all of your players to know all of this in-house stuff that dates back multiple years and requires specific examples and gray areas. You need good clean clear rules for players to read.

Zionite has access to the unencrypted version of my post. You can ask him if you are needing more information about the ruling in this specific situation. I had no idea any ruling would be necessary though, as there was no rule preventing me from posting that.

You're correct of course. The situation is indeed an oversight, which will be corrected, I'm sure. (I think the cryptoclaiming thing is in an old thread but I can't find it atm)

That said, it is up to the mod on whether to allow it.

Crypto claiming was banned sitewide about 2 years ago. I think It was Alx2 that designed a way to just destroy a scumteam's chance of winning with a day one cryptoclaim.

Nothing was ever said about Encrypting a whole message however.

Get it straight, it was Harry Potter Mafia....and the scum still won that game :-P.

But yes, cryptoclaiming was banned, at least to the extent that it was done en-mass to force everyone to lock in their claims on day 1.

It wasn't as clearly defined however, and various other ways of subclaiming have been allowed. Whatever is being cryptoclaimed or whatever may or may not be banned in a certain situation....the key is that you're allowed to encrypt information to be revealed later (Cop results for instance) or hide them in posts....but they can't be used as a whole to basically force claims early in game.

It's a really really fine line. I thought the general rule was to ask your mod if a proposed subclaim would be fine.
