Jace looks like pouty Matthew McConoughey with Keanu's hair. Vraska looks nice though. Really I would've been happier with any non-Jace PW. Jace is becoming like Wolverine was in the 90's. Showing up ever where, even when he doesn't belong, due solely to his popularity.
Meh, I'll wait to see the deck lists though. Interesting to see see what they do with Vraska's deck to differentiate it from the Golgari deck.
Why is there so much debate here? Did no one read the reason for the banning?
Tournaments have a finite time limit. If a deck can win on turn 3 or 4 but takes 20 minutes to do so it exceeds the time limit. The over the time rule is circumvented by Eggs bc the 5 turns after the clock limit can be undermined by a single turn that takes that much time.
WotC doesn't hate combo; they aren't trying to hedge out non-interactive or creatureless decks. It isn't about turning MtG into Yu-Gi-Oh or making Modern an aggro only format. People have to go the frak home at the end of the day. Move on to the next round. In a tournament with a fixed time constraint having 62 players sitting around waiting for one player to finish winning for 10 or 15 minutes and then again for 30 players, 14, 6, 2 and then the final game. How many players, judges, organizers staff are all waiting around while you're busy putting together a way to win? The deck doesn't put a strain on the game itself. It puts a strain on the environment. It's not about how "Wizards wants us to play". It's simply a logistical/temporal technicality about decks that can't seal the deal in the 45 minutes allocated to each match.
As OP I thought of modifying my first post when clearer pictures came out because i really wanted to speculate about all the ooze pics. However this has become a Varloz speculation thread.
Now that we have full res pics of all 10 guild as well as the other pics previewed it's pretty obvious the oozer is not Varloz. Vorel seems to be almost assuredly the person sliming Niv. Varloz is way too slim to be in the doorway behind Exava.
Knowing Varloz is a troll he'll regenerate. Aside from that I got nothing to add.
Varloz's art seems rather vague as to creature type and mechanics. If we didn't have the little guild symbols I almost could've mistaken him for Gruul. But what intrigues me is the rest of the snippets of art that were posted.
Does the figure slimebending Niv's fire and standing in the doorway behind a goo covered Exava bear a resemblance to Varloz to anyone else? There has seemed to be a slight Ooze sub-tribe theme going on and personally I'd love to see a legendary creature that produces Ooze tokens. Just wondering if it's just me.
I think having Master Warcraft on a walker would be cool, but it would either be A). Too wordy to accommodate to for it's new-found lack of instant speed or B). Less powerful than an ability like Master Warcraft should.
Still though it's not an ability that belongs on Gideon imo. He's a one man army.
I was actually thinking he might have a similar ability. Master Warcraft and Odric, Master Tactician like ability could simply be worded "You choose which creatures attack and block next combat phase". Making it usable before your combat or after giving you control of theirs. It seems like it'd fit on a PW. Seems most appropriate given his old abilities splashed with :symr:.
I don't think we'll see a reprint. If I had to guess the snake part of it's creature type was so that it would synergize with the snake tribal in Kamigawa.
There's plenty more creature types and design space to be explored.
My ideal for this would be one for each pair and one for each shard and wedge. I'm assuming guild lines are becoming blurred since the dissolution of the original guilds. Hence 3 color.
Legendary 4 color would be a nice addition though.

Also, Abrupt Decay says hi.

Here's to Vorel and a slimy future.

*edit: realized I posted the same photo twice.

I don't think there could be a real return to Ravnica without a cycle of uncommon mages.
Legendary 4 color would be a nice addition though.
Calling it a bear because of it's P/T and before correction CMC.
I think a clensed Garruk would be pure green again. I don't see him adopting or epitomizing other colors naturally.
