Used to have weekly 8+ player games with a large range of players when my LGS used to stay open passed closing time. Now that has stopped and we have the 4-5 core edh players with the more competitive decks and a revolving door of new guys with casual decks
we refer to looking at the top three cards of our deck as braatzing in honor of one guy in our play group that does it randomly even if he doesn't have a top in play
retired Dralnu, Lich Lord because every time i sat down with it, the entire table focused on it as the threat no matter the situation, now i enjoyed winning a lot of those games through the hate but it just got old fast
I have been brainstorming ideas for Melira,
Looking at:
[CARD]
Woodfall Primus[/CARD]+ sac engine, destroy all non-creature perms Kitchen Finks + S.E., infinite life Altar of Dementia+ persist creature, mill everyone Ashnod's Altar+ Persist, infinite mana
Playing my Dralnu deck versus combo Oona, I'm at 2 with a phyrexian arena and Mana Crypt in play, i dodge the roll on the crypt and go to 1. Knowing i need to either win or deal with them on my turn i cast a Body Double copying the Angel of Despair in his graveyard, then cast my beacon of unrest targeting the same thing and proceed to win with two Angel of Despair
In hard locked competitive i would say that is correct, Mayael would be too slow. In a situation like this where we are assigned a different general each round it really comes down to if you are going to follow the interesting spirit of the format/tournament and try to guild involving the general or are you just going to see how to fit a tier 1 competitive 1v1 deck into the colors you are stuck using. Sometimes all it takes it opening your mind beyond "oh hey, i need to win this so hard..."
In example i could have gone Combo/control with MonoU this round but i didn't i went fish because my general made my creatures hard to deal with.
Couple things i've found to be very good are :
Altar of Dementia
Fecundity
although i don't know if you could actually find them in foil

thinking of putting in a sisay or saffi shell
yeah thinking about it he was playing Teneb, he has a oona combo deck he usually played at the time though
