If you like affinity you could try using Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer, Sydri, Galvanic Genius, or Karn, Silver Golem as generals and focus on breaking affinity. I often take a mechanic I enjoy (graft for example) and try to build a deck that abuses that mechanic, and those have been some of my most fun decks.
I play it in Prossh, Skyraider of Kher. Tonight I used it to get my Food Chain and it was super effective. If it wins you the game, it doesn't matter how many cards you exile.
I play Burnished Hart in my big mana Erebos, God of the Dead build and it is awesome everytime. I have even managed to use it as part of a near permanent Infernal Darkness lock.
I reccomend Lord of Tresserhorn voltron. Use Torpor Orb/Sundial of the Infinite to bypass his drawback along with cheap reccurable creatures to sac if you cant get the torpor orb or sundial. Play stuff like Tainted Strike and similar cards that make him a 1 or 2 shotting machine. I highly reccomend the mana myrs as they act as both ramp and creatures to sacrifice.
The best part is that virtually no one plays the deck or even knows what Lord of Tresserhorn does, so you get some style and respect points when you kill someone with him.
How do the people you play with feel about mass LD effects? My playgroup has gone out of control with ramp (nearly every deck in the group is heavy ramp) and the only way I have found to counter this is mass LD. Do you know of any other ways to counter a heavy ramp meta?

Hey thanks for pointing that out. My mistake.
Of course he still does the whole Creeping Rennaisance and Praetor's Council throw all the lands! thing. He also uses Zuran Orb to get the lands in his graveyard and Crucible of Worlds to Bring them back.
I don't know how much of that you already run, but there are some ideas.
