    Apocalypse Chime

Yeah, you could in theory build something with it... but really?

who the hell is insane enough to build a deck with homelands cards. hopefully many people will agree that homelands is the worst set released. i wonder what the developers were smoking when they came up with that brilliant idea.

though Golgothian Sylex is just as horrible... at least it has a really cool story behind it that caused the ice age and a bunch of other crazy ****. which is more than i can say for Apocalypse Chime.

Ok, so im new to the boards and this is the first thread i've ever posted. I'm looking to put together a Mono red burn deck based around Chandra Ablaze and Pyromancer's Assention. My knowledge about good burn cards is fairly limited. Of course i know about shock and lightning bolt. But what i need help with is what other burn cards would be good.

I also have Hellkite Charger and Obsidian Fireheart in as my big creature. If there are some other creature i should have in that would be good knowledge to have aswell.

Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast are gunna be in the deck too, so i can keep some control going againts a blue deck.

Post any ideas that you think will help!

    i'm assuming your running a mono-red deck.
if you put a 7 cost like Hellkite charger in your deck you need some ramp cards. unfortunately the only mono-red ramp card i can think of at the moment is mana flare

someone tell me how this is a control deck

i define control as a very general term for a number of decks. Mill, using counter cards like cancel, or removal, as i have. of course there could a number of different decks that count as control. My deck defiantly has aggro cards in it. You can't look at a Phyrexian Negator as still say your deck is 100% control. though this deck has more control aspects than aggro aspects in my opinion. my title could have been "That Cheap Black Aggro/control Deck that People will hate" however that title sounds a bit obnoxious and i might have gotten a warning from the mods XD.

If you don't count Removal/kill spell/ whatever you call it, as something else and isn't control. Fine by me, however i think its control because in my opinion removal is part of the control aspect.

Dont forget about Didgeridoo, its the bees knees in Changeling decks.

its The card that can actually make minotaurs good, sure there are a couple good minotaurs like Tahngarth, Talruum Hero which you can use an epic combo with Druid's Call but other than that, alot of the minotaurs are like Canyon Minotaur overpriced and don't do very much. Didgeridoo and Anaba Ancestor would be the only reason to even consider making a Minotaur deck.... as i have.

a lot of the big macho cards in 7th additions. ya know, the ones that were 6/6 with no ability that cost 7.

Also Rock Jockey is a terrible, terrible card. Ironically from a set that was pretty good.

The only thing that looks a little out of place to me is avatar of woe. If all goes according to plan Phyrexian Negator or any few of your hard to block creatures will have won the game for you in 4 or 5 turns, right? I don't think Avatar will end up being as useful as she could be, in my opinion.

Your completely right, Avatar isn't really necessary, however, i like the thought of a 6/5 that can cost 2 and also had a "Tap N' Kill" ability. Since i have kill spells it shouldn't take long for all the creatures in the graveyards to reach 10. and if its a multiplayer game i could get her out at record time.

you need a little more removal and a little less creatures. Pick out your win-cons and build from their. For removal try infest, Unmake, or even Eyeblight's ending but i'd probably put it in the sideboard.

not trying to sound like "that guy" who thinks he knows best and all, but my reasoning for the ratio of removal: creatures is that creatures like Ashling, The extinguisher, avatar of Woe, Chittering Rats, and Cabal Interrogator can also help me in removal. (and in Rat's case delay them and piss of the opponent). Now i wouldn't put in Infest because, yes it may do well against weenie decks, but if someone pulls out a 7/7 on me, that card is worthless. Unmake even though it an amazing removal card, it cost three, not two, all my kills spells cost two or one. and i could use three mana to play something else, like a negator or a Wall of Shadow. Now i will not put in Eyeblight's ending because like you said its a sideboard card. I think sideboarding in a casual deck is a bit ridiculous

This is just based on first impressions, mind you.
Personally, I think the coffin queen, cabal interrogator, and fatal blow are your weakest cards. The queen's too slow and the interrogator takes up too much mana to really be worth it, not when you're trying to power out a turn one negator or avatar of discard.

The marsh gas isn't the greatest but I chose not to bring that up initially because I'm assuming you put that in to help your negators. If it were me, I'd use carrion feeders instead. They kill your own guys, that's true, but if the choice is between losing a negator or losing the negator and five other permanents because someone aimed two lightning bolts at it...

Also... are you sure you have enough mana? I could very well be missing something but I'm only counting 16 mana sources and I don't really see how your deck can function with just that.

Your absolutely right about Coffin Queen i just picked her out because her ability sounded cool. and like multiple people said i need more mana. so i just took her out and added two more swamps. 14 swamps and 4 dark rituals should hold me just fine. i put in interrogator because the thought of looking at X cards in the opponents deck then getting rid of the best one of the bunch is worth the mana cost. I have Fatal blow because, why waste a Doom blade on a creature attacking when i can kill a attacking or defending creature for one mana less and use that extra mana for something productive.

Now For Phyrexian Negator sake, yes Carrion feeder is better in comparison to Marsh gas. However, in my Deck Carrion feeder would only have one good purpose. while Marsh gas can also just be used for defense reasons as well as negator

    1.
You have only twelve lands in a 61 card deck.
14 of your spells have a cc of three or higher.

This means that you will be manascrewed.

Replace the defensive cards Marsh Gas, the wall and play swamps instead.

    2.
You have absolutely no defence against enchantments, artifacts.
    Consider discard.

    3.
    How does the deck play?

1.) Absolutely correct i've now replaced the coffin queens with two more swamps, as said before 14 swamps combined with 4 dark rituals i'd say i'm in good shape.
Replace Marsh gas? its a good insurance for negator and get rid of Wall of shadows? HELL NO! i need good blockers since the majority of my creatures are weenies and i can't block with my Negators now can I. Sure i could block with Avatar of discord but the damage done to her isn't reduced to zero

2.) This deck was actually going to be mainly discard (Cabal Interrogator is the last remnant of that idea) but then got rid of all of them because i had 23 creature alone. as for the protection against Artifacts and enchantments.... no (casual) Deck has that, Black isn't countering cards ( that would be blue) its removal. i also don't like making my decks INDESTRUCTIBLE AND HAS SEALED OFF ALL WEAKNESSES (evil laughter)
I like having decks that have certain weaknesses, i'd like to see how my opponent could take advantage of my weakness while i try to do the same. i think that is the essence of magic. i'll live with no protection from enchants and artifacts

3.) i use removal and then attack and use my walls as blockers, well thats the essence of the plan, though nothing ever goes according to plan.

my response would be if you can't decide get 'em both.

Sphinx of the Steel Wind is better than Baneslayer Angel and has protection from red and green which eliminates the majority of threats from Naya and Jund decks

However if you opponent plays Path on you, its a pretty big fail. so i'd also put in Sphinx of Jwar Isle as insurance

(As a brief note, I would like to say that this story will probably contradict the legit Magic The Gathering storyline and any announcements or statements that Wizards Of Coast have said in areas of the storyline that fans have found confusing. Also I’m planning on making this rotate as chapters if the MTG Salvation Forum finds this to meet their interests. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have enjoyed writing it!)

    Chapter 1

Any traveler would have found it increasingly difficult to find their destination without a path of some sort to guide them. That is what worries a traveler the most, Knowing where to go and how to get there. If any witnesses saw this group of six men walking, they would have thought they were on a journey to nowhere. For the travelers walked on no path, just on grassy plains. The second thing the witness would have thought was peculiar was their clothing. Five of the men had large blue and black coats with hoods of the same color covering their faces. With light blue vertical and horizontal lines running through their coats. They all carried short swords, which were all sheathed on the left side of their body.
The sixth man seemed the most strangest of them all, mainly because his clothing style was different from the others. For one thing he didn’t have their style of coats, for he had no shirt on at all! The man didn’t look very muscular. His chest seemed to be as durable and strong as any other and there were no markings. His arms, though they didn’t look like those of a skimpy child, didn’t have the qualities of a warrior. Nothing was truly odd about his appearance. Though a witness would have immediately noticed the large war hammer slung across his back. The Hammer looked like it weighed at least 100 pounds. Yet this man who bared no marks of using a heavy weapon such as this had it slung across his back. Any witness would have laughed at this and said that the boy thought too much of himself and gave himself too much credit. His face was also interesting, mainly because, unlike the other five men, you could actually see it! His nose was straight and also long but not in a unattractive way. His black hair, though not terribly long at all would still dangle in the back of his head, looking un-combed though clean. His mouth looked like any other mouth and had perfect teeth.

Though it looked like they were walking to nowhere, in fact they had been following a path the whole time, a path invisible to those who did not take time to notice. As the men walked on the temperature was going down and it was getter cooler with every step they took. Soon it would become below freezing, evidence of this soon appeared when the pleasant grassy plains the men had been walking on became crusty with snow breaking under their heels. This snow was the last remaining evidence of a time that had passed in Dominaria millennia’s ago. Now there was no snow on this plane. It had been cursed away, and was told to never come back after the pain and suffering it had caused. So away it went, and this place was its last stronghold.
The six men continue waling in a seemingly aimless direction. But the men knew, the colder it was, the closer they were. During their walking they came across a narrow valley, the cliffs on each side steep, high and having jagged and sharp edges. There were bones of Goblins who had passed away, with an educated guess saying they froze to death or were consumed by the unknown. Despite of the Valley’s intimidation, the men continued forward, into the valley. Nothing would ever stop them from reaching their goal. The shirtless man should have frozen to death from his lack of clothing, but it seemed that he just shrugged it off as a necessary annoyance.
After walking through this valley of unknown for an hour, the shirtless man stopped, making the other men stop as well. He looked down and saw a line in the snow. He made a motion with his left hand for the others to back away, and so they did. While doing this, the man took out his war hammer with his right, the apparent weight having no effect on him.

“you do not belong here” a voice stated.
“I believe I do” the man said “for you have something that must be freed.”
“you words trouble me” another voice stated. “leave now”
“I’ll shall not” the man retorted “I have come too far to be intimidated by the likes of weaklings like you”
A drake appeared from the top of the valley and landed on a rock. He was big for a drake, his entire body was blue it looked curiously at the man. Then in a softer voice spoke.
“Please, avoid useless bloodshed.” His head pointed at the line in the snow.
“if any one crosses that boundary, we must eradicate you”.
After saying the word “we” 14 more drakes appeared, all were unusually large and were of different colors. The man contemplated why there were 15 of them in total, then he grinned, understanding the meaning behind the number.
“how humorous” He stated “The fifteen who built this tomb left their pets to guard it when they died.”

The blue drake nodded his head “if you know that old tale, then you know what it in the tomb, an you must understand why we guard it. I warn you not to step over that line. Far too many warriors have tried and all have died and have since been forgotten. If you do not wish to share that fate leave at once”

The man shook his head “I refuse to turn back on fools like you; you are nothing more than vampire drakes who have far too long been isolated from Dominaria.” He lowered his hammer

“With this hammer I shall crush your spirit. And kill you quickly for the one being I will ever call master”

The drake suddenly laughed “That is the same foolishness I’ve heard when every warrior challenged us, only to be met with quick death.” The drake then looked at the man
“Tell me though, before you die, what is your name.”
The man’s grin disappeared. And in the motion of stepping over that line in the snow he muttered his name
    “Telseth”

With Telseth’s body over the line the drake’s screamed in rage as the all hovered up from their landing spots and all dive bombed directly towards Telseth. In each of the drake’s beaks held a giant ball of energy, matching their colors. With that type of energy, no magical barrier could withstand it. Telseth, gripped the hammer and with all his might swung horizontally. Releasing from the blunt of his hammer a blinding white energy that sliced through the drake’s energy held in their beaks and had also sliced through their bodies. The drakes scream as this unknown energy had sliced through their bodies, blood painted the stones red.
The battle had lasted only seconds. And in those seconds, The drakes had been reduced to mangled flesh and bone. Telseth turned his body to face the other men, who had watched the entire battle, knowing it was going to end this way the whole time.

“Let’s get going” Telseth said as he slung back his hammer “Our master is waiting.”
Within a span of 5 minutes, the group had reached their destination. A huge glacier, the size could not be described nor could it be compared. And within that glacier was at the moment a huge dark mass with what seemed like an unlimited amount of tentacles.

“Give me the stake” Telseth said to one of the other men. Then out of his knapsack pulled out a object covered in a cloth. The man handed it to telseth who carefully un-wrapped it. As Telseth had stated it was a stake with red marking on it. Then quickly with one swift movement he stabbed it into the glacier. He then took out his hammer, then with all the strength and power in him. He swung at the stake, nailing it and piercing it even further. It took a dramatic effect on the glacier. It started to melt and the being inside started to move. Telseth dropped his hammer, and evil glee had developed in his eyes and his mouth and tongue made these words, these last words which would be the message that would haunt dominaria and many other worlds

“BEHOLD THE MOST POWERFUL BEING OF ALL, MARIT LAGE”

  • posted a message on somewhat quick question
i've looked at the basic handbook (in the attacking section and making mana section at least) but could not find my question

though there are many other cards that could do the same thing in the same situation, but for the sake of confusion lets use Cylian elf and woolly thoctar as the guinea pigs

If i control two lands and one is tapped and i control Cylian Elf and declare Cylian elf is attacking. If wooly thoctar is being declared as a blocker for Cylian Elf by the opposing player.

Now you think that poor little 2/2 Cylian would get mangled by the 5/4 wooly thoctar. But what if in response to my opponent declaring blockers i play a land, now tap the two lands and play a card like Sigil Blessing

Now my cylian elf is a 5/5 being blocked by a 5/4, and they both die and now my opponent is short a thoctar

would this be allowed or is this against the rules. i understand that playing sigil blessing would be allowed because its at instant speed but the question is can i play a land when i declared attackers or when my opponent declares blockers or vice versa.
