Can someone explain what Mark Rosewater means when he says swingy? He uses it a lot, so it seems like something I should know.
And so as not to take entirely away from the conversation at hand, I agree with Luminum. I've been reading over a lot of the entries from last time, and it seems like people are getting more negativity for being unoriginal than for being broken.
Safehold Mercenary 1GW
Creature - Elf Ally (U)
Whenever another ally comes into play under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on Safehold Mercenary.
Persist.

I was playing with flashback, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to add the mechanic because that would mean I had to have it in the entirety of the set, whatever said set might be. I definitely need to fix it, though.
Jabberwock fixed, and I added the loyalty. I totally forgot it the first time, but it is in fact 1.
That second render is amazing. Now if only I could get that printed as a card.
One thing you can do is print it out on a high-quality printer, then just glue it to a crap common or a land card. When it's in a sleeve, you can hardly tell.
In preparation for the designer search, I've decided I'm going to hold back on posting cards from the set I've been developing for the last few months. But hey, I've got plenty of my for-fun janx too. So, here's one of my recent favorites:
Alice, the Traveler 1RR
Planeswalker - Alice
+2: Choose target permanent you control and target permanent you don't control. Destroy one of them at random.
-2: Put a 4/4 colorless Jabberwock legendary creature token with flying onto the battlefield.
0: Until end of turn, you may play a red instant or sorcery from your graveyard. If you do, exile that spell.
Starting loyalty: 1

Okay, well...I started in shadowmoor, and have little knowledge of what came before. I've encountered enough Ravnica and Kamigawa and the planar chaos/timeshift stuff to know about them, but I've got no idea when it comes to darksteel and judgement and anything 9th edition before, essentially. Am I going to be at a serious disadvantage, or do you think they'll update questions like "what set does this belong in?" to be more recent (there's a multiple choice question on the old test that asks that and lists a bunch of the sets I wasn't around for).
I like it -- but with only a +1 and 4 counters to start his - should be a -2 rather than -3. Other than that I like it a lot. Now I just need someone to make the card for me and do an art!
Well, what are you looking for? Is it a firey dude, a literal phoenix? Descriptions man!
I agree that it's entirely possible. Your bio ideas even seem pretty legit. That firaga spell, though? Four mana for essentially 30% of your opponent's life total? Ridiculous, my good sir.
Also, 5 is a pretty hefty amount of loyalty counters for a 4 cost PW. Nissa starts with 2, Garruk starts with 3, Koth starts with 3, Ajani starts with 3. Even elspeth 1.0 only has four, and her ultimate, which by no means wins the game, is at 8.
He actually said that. You literally quoted him on it.
I STILL don't get the Memnite hype.
I like how the emoticon matches your avatar
Also, finally an FNM card worth running.
