You know, it never ocurred to me until now that Blood Sun removes drawbacks from lands.

It also removes hexproof though, so if your opponent has land removal the land is not sticking around for long.

It also removes the ability for your opponent's Field of Ruinand friends to destroy it...

Stone Rain, Pillage, Demolish, Rain of Tears, Winter's Grasp, etc. are all a thing in various formats.

Indeed they are, however the general discussion around Blood Sun was its viability in combination with this in Standard, not the formats where most of those land destruction spells are playable. If somebody is playing 4 mana land destruction in Standard then I'm probably winning that game anyway...

Gotta use what you can get, and the ones in Standard currently aren't that difficult to cast turn 3.

    T1: Forest, Elf.
T2: Land, Mana stone of choice.
T3: Rain on your parade with LD.

I mean, I can count four different four mana LD spells in standard right now, and if we continue to modern, the number of available LD spells for four mana or less becomes thirty three, the cheapest of which can be cast for two mana. If people start playing the Blood Sun/Lotus Field combo, expect Land Destruction to become a thing in both standard and modern.

Welp, the GWB legendary was a new character. Kethis, the Hidden Hand.

We need a Mardu legendary tribal knight. Red is the third most common color for Knights, and it was even past black for a while in the second spot. Bonus points if it has and grants flanking.

Well, hello there. This card was literally made for commander. Note that due to the wording, the alternate casting cost dodges the commander tax.

mean looking fish. I like the art. XD

they somehow look like red pacu

Well, the Pacu is technically a Piranha. Granted a primarily vegetarian such, but a piranha nevertheless.

As for the card. I absolutely love it, but then again, I also loved School of Piranha.

Surprised that the Tarkir Refuges got reprinted in place of the regular tap lands, but pleasantly so. Not surprised to see Evolving wilds however. I also like the art of the Cloudkin Seer. Murder is nice to see again, and the lich is a pretty powerful card for an uncommon. It seems the powerlevels are really pushed in this set.

I think we need to remember cards made in sets for shadow stuff coming

I had a theory earlier about naya creatures want to be damage matters and dinosaurs is the sub-theme

Well Marauding Raptor might have helped my theory

    Because

1 it damages your own creatures when one enters

2 it’s a bit weird to give it a dinosaur tribal ability since the Dino’s are rotating out of standards very soon

The only Dinos that are rotating are the Ixalan ones, the ones from the other sets remain in standard for a little while longer, plus since they finally accepted dinos back into the creature type fold (because they realized they're as popular as dragons), we can expect at least a couple of dinosaurs each year. And well, M20 has quite a few so far already. Wink

Solid commons by the way, especially the elemental ones

Her clothes are made from Asbestos of course.

New post, because it's been two days since last. But a thought just hit me, we've been looking at the wrong thing in Modern Horizons. What is the one theme in the set that was not already a strategy in Modern prior to the sets release? What if, and it keep in mind I may be way off here, but what if one of the commander decks is a blue/green or partially blue/green snow based deck? And each deck is themed around one the four seasons?

Not a bad creature tutor. Going to see play in a lot of green EDH decks.

Could be useful in graveyard strategies (Delirium, Threshold, Reanimation, Flashback, Golgari), but otherwise is a meh. Probably the worst of the lot.

Stop saying 'strictly better', this thing enters tapped.

It also has hexproof. You know, the thing that makes your opponent unable to target the permanent, at all. And the drawback is very easy to get around.

Is it just me, or does Winged Words seem pretty pushed for a common?

All in all, a bunch of solid commons. I like them.

Yeah, cards like this really test the definition of “strictly better”.
This card is better than Lotus Vale in a couple of very significant ways,
but entering tapped keeps it from being strictly better.

I still want several myself, I already used Lotus Vale in a couple of EDH decks,
and this will work better since LV almost always dies to Strip Mine rather than Armageddon.

I use Lotus Vale already in Windgrace, as well as Scorched Ruins, so... One more land to sacrifice stuff to would be great.

I just hope they reprint crucible in M20 or the fall set, so I can finally get one.

Can anyone explain why this is not one of the worst cards in this set?

Maybe it's because I'm a Standard player, but I can't think of a single deck that would ever want this. You can't play it on turn 1 or 2. If you play it on turn 3, you forfeit that turn.

If you're a 1- or 2-color deck, you don't need fixing like this. And if you're a many-colored deck, you'd much rather have the two dual-lands you just sacrificed than a land that can only produce one color of mana at a time.

    What am I missing here?

That not every card is made for every format? This card is obviously for Commander. That said, the lands you sacrifice don't *have* to be untapped, so you only forfeit your turn if you don't cast anything beforehand. And even then, there are plenty of ways to get around the "enter's play tapped" restriction.
