Sheldon, I keep trying to turn your Hidden Gem of the Day into a game where I try to guess what crazy new deck you're building with all these cards.

You're going to make yourself crazy, since I have no real plan for them. It's really whatever occurs to me in the moment.

So I'm looking at a few cards I want to try out in a deck and struggling for what to remove (the particular deck is moot) but it got me thinking. Has anyone built a deck with a a couple of slots intentionally as placeholders where you can freely swap cards for testing purposes?

In the early days, when I had just the Phelddagrif deck, I'd carry around about 10 cards to occasionally swap in and out. Later, I built a whole modular deck once that could swap in a full color, but eventually found it to be pretty clunky.

That's like saying it rubs you the wrong way that people are chosen as heart surgeons with a strong bias toward medical degrees (okay, the metaphor is a little strained, but you get the idea). I'd be happy to listen to how we might develop selection criteria for people who we literally have no information about (and I mean that with no sarcasm).

Yes, Ron Foster was critical to bringing Magic and Commander to Japan. Yes, the CAG, like the RC, is more North American-centric than we'd prefer. Feel free to suggest content-producers from other areas of the world that we might want to consider.

I like reading about deck creation strategies and synergies between obscure cards and / or commanders! Also the rotisserie draft posts were very fun to read Smile

I promise that once grad school is finished in May, we will do another Rotisserie Draft. I loved those things too.

I've posted this on FB and the official forums, so it makes sense to bring it here as well.

I trust that most of you know I write a weekly column on Commander over at Star City Games.com Since this format is as much about community, I'd like to hear what kinds of written content you as the community prefer to read--not just the type and style of articles you like, but what drives you to particular content. The time you have for reading Commander articles is limited, and we'd like to make the best use of that time. I'm curious not just what gets you to a site or author, but what keeps you coming back there/to them (other than the obvious "needs to be at least somewhat coherently written").

Copy effects in general are just high value, since they have a specific cost but can copy things much more expensive. Copy Artifact and Copy Enchantment seem criminally underplayed around here.

I like durdling, but not four hours worth. My optimum game time is 60-75 minutes, so as to be able to get in at least three games in an evening.

Congrats. It seems really odd to think of a magic player retiring for some reason lol. I guess we keep getting older.

    I retired 15 years ago.

Maybe people will start to play more Aether Snap. It doesn't appear all that dangerous, but we won't discount it until we see it in the wild.

I'd like to offer my personal thanks to Cryogen for his part in discussions leading up to the formation of the CAG. His name was forwarded by more than one person, citing his contributions here at MTGS for helping raise the level of debate, at is were. Although we ultimately chose other people for the CAG, he was a serious candidate, and I hope we can continue to count on his continued contribution to elevating discourse in the Commander Community.

Here's the link to today's article in which I expand on that some. The RC and CAG will be working together to put the finishing touches on their charter.

I would be interested to hear if this group was formed and took part in discussion before the decision of no change or if this is announcing that the group will be formed and in the future banned list change announcements will have some hearing from them in them.

It doesn't really matter too much but I am just curious as to when this group is kind of officially instated is all.

The CAG was not involved in the no change discussion; they weren't formed quite yet.

To address another point, the CAG was shaped so that it WOULDN'T be an echo chamber. We need some healthy disagreement (to either reinforce that we're right or fix where we're wrong), and we're confident that these folks can supply it.

JWK, absolutely agree with you that good ideas can come from everywhere. The heart of my question is what would be your discriminators for picking a less-known person (let's call them VSFP (very smart forum poster)? Content creators have a demonstrable body of work to draw on; it's much more difficult to distill what VSFP has to say, since unlike the content creator, they haven't assembled and focused it. The follow-on remains then how to discriminate between all of the VSFPs out there.

Carthage, fair enough. What in your view is stale about the format that making PWs commanders would change (again, other than "it'd be different"). I suppose the question is what's the source of the staleness and does PW->C solve that?
