There's also the Pyromancer's Ascension deck that abuses Time Warp and Naya Charm. Infinite turns, ahoy!

Got top 8 in the Midwest Masters with a 8-0-1 record, draw was just because I was going to be top 8 anyway. Just waiting for 9th round to end now. I also played feature matches for GGLive twice. So you guys can check it out if you want. Dissregaurd my horrid play mistakes vs jund. I'll post deck list and match breakdown later.

Congrats! That's awesome. I'm looking forward to reading your analysis. Smile

EDIT: Where can I find 'GGLive'?

    Play Wargate and more Loremasters.

And indeed, it's a good idea to find room for Ondu Cleric. Life gain is good when racing with your opponent.

  • posted a message on Why isn't Wargate Broken???
It's playable in Bant Allies. Wargate for a key ally or an Oblivion Ring. And with the mana Harabaz Druid creates, searching for bigger allies (Sea Gate Loremaster, Turntimber Ranger) won't be a problem.

I see the pro's of Explore and also tested the card, but I like Rampant Growth so much better, since it guarantees another land coming into play. In case of land screw, this is crucial.

  • posted a message on Is LD viable in Standard?
A dedicated LD-deck in T2 won't cut it, the quality of cards is too low. I myself run a mono green deck with a heavy LD-package: 4 Acidic Slime, 3 Mold Shambler and 4 Tectonic Edge (see the mono green thread in Developing Competitive). It's for disruption, not outright mana denial, but it works.

I also played Mono-G at the Grand Prix, but unfortunately did not make day 2. This is the list I played:

And now for the report. I didn't take a lot of notes, so I hope the match descriptions will be correct.

    Round 1: Mono-G, the mirror

Well, that's certainly a surprise! Game 1: he has a slow draw and almost no threats. Game 2: I have a slow draw, he draws a monument and I die very quickly. Game 3: we both have nice draws, he plays a monument and I do not find a way to get rid of it. I wonder how he did the rest of the tournament. (I sideboarded in 2 Eldrazi Monument and 3 Mold Shamblers.)

    0-1

    Round 2: Vampires

Game 1: this was a close one, but I wrap it up with Master of the Wild Hunt. She made a few mistakes (this was her first tournament) and I cashed in. Game 2: Master of the Wild Hunt saves the day yet again. Also: in both games Vines of the Vastwood kicked ass. (I sideboarded in 2 Eldrazi Monument, 2 Basilisk Collar and 4 Great Sable Stag.)

    1-1

    Round 3: Boros Bushwhacker

These were tight games! Game 1: he gets me down to 2, but runs out of creatures and burn. I manage to clean up before he could draw any extra. Game 2: he got me down to 1, I drew no Fogs, but I did manage to draw a Collar and attach it to Leatherback Baloth for some needed life. Also: Wolfbriar made a lot of blockers. (I sided in 4 Fog and 2 Basilisk Collar.)

    2-1

    Round 4: Jund

In testing I did quite well against the deck (hurrah for Tectonic Edge, Acidic Slime and Mold Shambler), but my draws here were mediocre. I drew no land destruction and the few threats I played were met with removal. (I sided in 4 Great Sable Stag.)

    2-2

    Round 5: U/W Artifact Aggro

Game 1: he gets me down to 5 by attacking with Esper Stormblades and Master of Etherium. But I gain control by destroying crucial lands and artifacts with Acidic Slime. Also: Master of the Wild Hunt keeps on sending in the dogs. Game 2: he never gets on the pressure and I destroy a lot. Both games I saw no removal from him. (I sided in the Mold Shamblers.)

    3-2

    Round 6: Open the Vaults

Game 1: Het gets a slow start and I quickly start destroying his lands. He doesn't recover from that. Game 2 and 3: he gets to enough mana to play Open the Vaults. I can't deal with that. (I sided in 3 Mold Shambers and 2 Eldrazi Monument.)

    3-3

    Round 7: U/W/R Control

All hope was lost for day 2, but I still decided to play one more match. Unfortunately, this was a bad matchup. Game 1: I have a slow start, he has enough time to gain control. Game 2: He had an early Jace and I had nothing on the table. When I did, a well-placed Day of Judgment from him left me in despair. After that he also played Elspeth and Ajani Vengeant. I die. (I sided in 3 Mold Shamblers, 2 Eldrazi Monument and 4 Great Sable Stag.)

    3-4

    Some general remarks:

    - The deck has potential. I feel that with the land destruction package, the ramp spells and the quality creatures, Mono-G can make things hard for a lot of decks.
    - I wish I had playtested more and had spent more time on the sideboard. This might have led me to the conclusion that the Rampaging Baloths are cure but obsolete. I'd rather have had more Mold Shamblers mainboard.
    - Acidic Slime and Master of the Wild Hunt did a lot of fantastic work. Vines of the Vastwood caught a lot of people off-guard and saved Master of the Wild Hunt a crucial amount of times.
    - Leatherback Baloth and Garruk were solid, so was the ramp package.

If you have problems with man-lands, why not run Tectonic Edge yourself?

Try Wargate. Good for tutoring out allies (especially with the mana you get from the druid) or O-Ring. Also: Join the Ranks?

A friend of mine uses the card in a G/W/U Allies deck. It's ideal for tutoring up the ally you need at the moment. With Harabaz Druid, the mana is no problem. It works swimmingly.

Never heard of people calling Mirrodin a bad block. The same cannot be said for Kamigawa block however.

No Vines of the Vastwood? It's a must-have, protecting all-stars like Rampaging Baloths and Master of the Wild Hunt. But hurray for mono green, here's my build:

(My sideboard isn't fully developed, but I was considering a control package of 4 Acidic Slime and 4 Mold Shambler and maybe some Windstorms and Great Sable Stags.)

    Maindeck card choices:

    - Wolfbriar Elemental instead of Howl of the Night Pack. The Elemental brings more versatility and has a solid body on it's own.
    - No Grazing Gladehart. It fits the landfall theme, but against the decks it would be most helpful against (RDW etc.) it gets burned very fast. I prefer the Leatherback Baloth here.
    - No Oracle. Too slow and too weak IMHO. When you get to four mana you want to start slamming down threatening stuff like Garruk or Master of the Wild Hunt.
    - Fetchlands. Uhm, it's a landfall deck? Cool with Lotus Cobra (5 mana on turn 3), speeds up the Expedition and helps Baloths.

I love the blue quest! It triggers every end step which means it can rock in multiplayer, dropping Grozoth, searching out more Grozoths and Inkwell Leviathans. I'll be looking for them at the pre-release.

Good limited card. I'm just really disappointed with the 'tapped creature'-part. Without it, it would be Standard-playable.
