The list in the FAQ isn't the full card set, you know.
I know. But its 132 cards include every card that might have had rules questions. This is absolutely a card that would have had rules clarifications necessary. ‘Dies during combat’ is an unusual clause. A FAQ would absolutely address that to make it clear that dying by any means during the combat phase triggers this - it does not need to be attacking or blocking and the death does not have to be from combat damage for it to trigger.
Cathedral Membrane and Mongrel Pack were issued clarification rulings for this exact clause. This would have too.
This isn’t Savannah Lions here. This is a card that would be among the FAQ’ed if it existed.
Ah, I see. Good point.
Also, I've been looking at the original image again, and while I still see the 'separator', I'm seeing similar lines on other parts of the card too so I'm probably seeing things.
So, um... Forget I said anything, the card's probably fake.

It's confirmed fake for a different reason. The release notes say that all new cards are to be printed with a bar dividing the rules text from the flavor text, this card has nothing that I could describe as a bar, it uses the current layout.
Upon closer inspection there does seem to be a line between the Sentinel's rules and flavor texts that, even though it's blurry as hell, seems to match the subtle line on the revealed Homarid Explorer. Seeing both next to each other convinced me the Sentinel's real after all (since no faker could have known of the existance of the line before the leak happened).
Jul 26, 2017Posted in: The Rumor Mill(reminder most dinosaurs have scales only some breeds have feathers.)
This is outdated science. Recently evidence has revealed feathers present in specimens on both sides of the saurischian/ornithischian divide, and since that divide occured right at the beginning of dinosaur evolution, all dinosaurs must have had at least the potential to have feathers. If they didn't have them, it means it must have been evolutionarily advantageous to lose them. With our current knowledge it's more correct to say featherless dinosaurs were the exception rather than the rule.
recently the t-Rex was discovered to not have feathers (paleontologist in china found a t-Rex with skin pattern and it was scaley like we all know the dinosaurs.)

Look, a sceptical attitude is usually the right one to have, but this leak happened one day after Ixalan was announced. To assume that any faker could read about Ixalan's theme and then think up all those cards and find appropriately themed art for them within a single day is just plain ludicrous.

Maybe not... The checklist's card number is CH1/297, so it's likely there's at least one other checklist card. (Although artifacts being on this card might mean multicolored DFCs are out, since they usually come before artifacts in the number crunches. But on the other hand, maybe there were more than 3 multicolored DFCs and they decided to switch them to the second checklist...)

My three best guesses:
"Add X colorless mana to your mana pool."
"Add <> to your mana pool for each storage counter removed this way."
"Add an amount of <> to your mana pool equal to the number of storage counters removed this way."
Dec 2, 2015I really hope these books become successful enough for us to get one for every new block and perhaps even some old ones for good measure. A second installment announced before the first is even released is an excellent sign. Despite not being a fan of Innistrad, I'll get this just to support the continuation of this line.Posted in: The Rumor Mill

The "Snow mana 2.0" argument relies on the basis that "no change this big could be introduced in the middle of a block", falls over some counter examples:
"Summon" Became "Creature -" in Classic Sixth Edition, which came between Urza's Legacy and Urza's Destiny.
Expansion symbols that reflected the rarity of the cards were introduced in Exodus, which was the last expansion of the Rath Cycle (Tempest, Stronghold and Exodus)
Plus reach and deathtouch were introduced in Future Sight.
Nov 1, 2015Ugh. As someone who couldn't care less about horror (Gothic or otherwise), Innistrad had nothing to offer me besides double-faced cards and soulbond. If SOI has more of these, it won't be a total waste, but even assuming the best, I'm not hyped at all.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Still, this makes me appreciate the two set block structure a whole lot more. Definitely glad I don't have to spend three sets in a setting I don't enjoy anymore.
Sep 6, 2015^Yeah, that's a big problem.Posted in: Opinions & Polls
Anyway, with the choices from the poll I'd say Moonfolk > Faeries > Cephalids > Djinns > Avens > Sirens > Metathran > Vedalken. If homarids were an option, I guess they'd take second or third place. Conceptually, not power-wise, obviously.
Sep 2, 2015So this artbook was announced at PAX, and it surprised me there wasn't a thread on it already.Posted in: Artwork
The wait for next year has never been harder! I hope it'll be successful enough to become a regular feature and won't share the fate of the printed Planeswalker's Guide.
