What i meant was that say chandra nalaar has 5 loyalty counters when i draw chandra ablaze. i can have her use the -X ability to do 5 damage to a creature, killing chandra by leaving her with no more loyalty counters. thus leaving the board empty for ablaze to come out.

Well, i have card altering with magma jet and lash out. putting in rite of flame/seething songs to accelerate an ablaze out seems like it would waste space in the deck to me.

Yes but still, there are various situations where you would rather keep the Nalaar etc.

Seething Song and Rite of Flame are never a waste of space. Acceleration is something Red lacks, and falls behind for. Those 2 cards can do great things for the deck, whether it be casting a Chandra on turn 3, or casting multiple spells on turn 6.

Marshal's Anthem is too high in mana-cost for this deck. With the resources available, you'd probably only be able to return 1 creature from your graveyard. The better option would probably be Light from Within.

Are Sorin and Nissa actually in RoE? Or are they in the pictures for promotional purposes?
Sarkhan Vol[/CARD] coming back is interesting. At least this time he won't be $40 at the gates.

4/5. Sorin looks a little too stretched, a little bit basic, but nice.

Hey all, working on a fun casual UBG deck. Its focused mostly on big multiplayer games, but I want it to stay reasonably good for casual 1v1 too. I think I've got it pretty close to where I want it, but I always love suggestions because they help me find synergistic gems I completely missed. Here it is as of now:

I'm thinking that the coatl might be in need of replacement but i'm not sure. I love the card a lot, but should it go? Other thoughts?

Jace, the Mind Sculptor is better than Brainstorm, but I'm presuming the deck has a budget.

I'd recommend trying to build around the Coatl. It can be a really fun card, and great for long-multiplayer games where it becomes a GIANT.

MOTL has them at around $2.5 a piece for most, so that's what the estimated value is. As Shadow said, there are better options in the format.

Dark Ritual for sure. Mana-acceleration is never bad, when you can get Haakon into your graveyard on Turn 1.

Why not Coat of arms guys?

    It's just better...

Coat of Arms can be worse for you, if you're playing a faster tribal deck, or any tribal deck at all. It's a very situational card, and to be effective; it relies on good Board position. Something Soldiers cannot always guarantee.

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't even want to play that format. Very strange why the guy with the highest life total is to be attacked...

While many on the forum don't like it (for reasons I just don't understand), my group finds cards like Maze of Ith simply spooky powerful. I'm the guy who clearly has abused this card the most over the years and I really try to not include it in my decks anymore, for they all just moan and groan. Unless a creature has shroud, you can easily, and, most importantly, repeatedly, take the largest creature right out of the equation. It can even be used to save others from dying in a pinch. This and Kor Haven have been very, very useful for me in our multi-player formats.

They are often far better than most defensive creatures you can play, for many reasons in my mind. As a land, it can't be countered, it's far more challenging to remove, doesn't cost any mana to cast, and it's reuseable for the entire game. I once read an argument that it didn't say, "Don't attack!" say like a creature with deathtouch. Well, it some ways that might be true. But a creature is far, FAR more fragile and easy to deal with.

Further, you want to talk about something that absolutely DESTROYS exalted, this is it. I once played Maze of Ith in a game that a friend was trying to abuse exalted. Unfortunately for him, he DIDN'T have any land-destroy and had little chance to abuse me with it.

And you can abuse it in other ways as well. Say using it in conjunction with The Wretched; oh, that can be LOTS of fun in multi with something like Lure. Just make sure you give him some sort of shroud, for he'll be a HUGE target. You can also set up a control deck from hell if you use it in conjunction with Dueling Grounds and/or Silent Arbiter. Smile

Just something to consider is all.

That sounds very similar to the exact way we play.

However, the idea that the guys to your left and right are your allies, at least when we play, definitely does NOT work in our group.

When you really get down to it, everyone at the table is your opponent, not just your non-adjacent players. Why? Because even your adjacent players will do everything they can to STOP you from winning if you get close. In my mind, a teammate is the only way you can truly have an ally; if they win when you win, that's an ally to me.

At least, that's how we play. It's a blast and pretty fair in my mind. Can get for some LONG games when multiple people play control or lifegain though...lol

Yeah, that is precisely how we play. Being an ally, doesn't mean you can't attack them. You can if you want. But, you have to keep in mind that if you lose your allies, someone is else is going to win.

In the end it goes both ways, you usually knock someone off if they get too close to your gloating rights (Ally or not).

Divinity of Pride is a creature that can abuse the deck for a lot as well. Deathbringer Liege seems like it would do okay, but then you'd be turning it into more of B/W Life Drain. Which although IMO is a stronger deck, may not be the direction you would want to take.

Of course there is. You boycott them, and you tell other people to do the same.

When almost every store is doing it, there's no real point in boycotting it. I'd just switch to buying from people or Ebay.

  • posted a message on Why not Jund with Leatherback Baloth?
The manabase issues are the reason why. Also Thrinax is a more resilient 3 drop and is the key card in the mirror.

This. Jund's mana-base is already fragile, having a very color sensitive creature, would just be a dead draw. Achieving 3 green mana would most likely come around turn 5-6. Frankly, I'd rather be playing a Broodmate Dragon instead of Leatherback Baloth at that point.

I would recommend the Star format of playing for you guys. Look it up on google, basically its 5 players. The people directly on your sides are your allies. The other 2 are your enemies. First person to kill their enemies wins. This provides a fair balance to the game.
